Interesting and fun indeed.
Curious though, let's say I'm following the modern (and logically valid) form, where do you find my logic flawed (not saying it's not) in thinking that:
Giving a current technology the name of a future technology will result in all future names of this technology being skewed, unless some major re-evaluation takes place. (Eg. The standards change completely) If this re-evaluation did not take place, and the names were indeed skewed, is it not logical that all future names of this technology would not conform to the standard?
As of right now, real 4G is nowhere near what they are marketing as 4G, when real 4G is available, there is no way they are going to brand it as 4G.
So, it will probably come off as 4.5G or 4G+ or maybe even 5G. If the standards organization and the marketing departments are not aware of each other (Ie. No naming re-evaluation takes place), I don't see how they would ever catch up.
Although, I guess the problem with that line of reasoning is that it is not probable that the two would never adjust their naming schemes to line up eventually. Guess I answered my own question.
It's too bad they're branding 4G as something that isn't truly 4G.
What are they going to call 4G when it really comes out?? 4G+? 4.5G?
Slippery slope.
I got all stars, and world. looking for ff2 and 3, chrono trigger, super metroid and zelda. besides punch out, havnt heard of the rest...which i guess is just one.
Nice OS choice, I do Gentoo too!
No parent wants to buy their kid a $300 Ubersmartphone, pay a $40 text/call/data plan on it per month AND buy the games.
It's amazing how many kids have smartphones these days....really.
Heck, parents might see an opportunity to buy one device instead of two....cause you know they're gonna end up buying them a PSP or whatever and a phone anyway.
Not to mention all the different operating systems that make it impractical to be a real gamer and play all the good games no matter what the platform.
I wouldn't really call WinMo, Symbian, and Blackberry a gaming platform. iOS is limited with no real input. Also, I'm pretty sure that the good games will be ported over to Android and vica versa since first-party games are usually the ones that you don't see on other platforms. The Playstaion phone might be ending up the exclusive games even, since Sony tends to make games from time to time. I think that, for once, Sony might have got the right idea with the Playstation Phone.
That being said, there's no way I'm going to buy that thing on launch.
Good question, made me curious....and I can't really figure it out.
Usually whoever discovers in gets to name it,
if that's the case then it's an anti virus vendor in Belarus called VirusBlokAda
and going by their company name, it wouldn't surprise me.
Well, it would be nice to have it work over the 3G network but Jobs said that the carriers (note plural there) needed some work.
Not would be, it IS nice. I've been enjoying it for at least a year...I don't understand what he's talking about when he says they need work, most if not all UMTS carriers should already have the capability.
Is there an already implemented standard for mobile video phones?
Yes, it's been out for some time. I have it on my X1....many phones have the capability. It's pretty easy to use as well...I press the video call button... The only downside is that it kinda pricey. What I'm hoping for is the ability to use both services...probably not gonna happen though.
I totally agree. Seems like kind of a waste of a front facing camera if it only works on WiFi......even if they get it working on the 3G network, since it uses an iphone app (FaceTime), it will probably be an iphone only thing. Why not use the already implemented standard instead of a 1/4 working solution? Or at least both....its all just software.
There's no internet radio streaming?
FTFA # 5. Use too much bandwidth - Internet radio apps are off-limits.
I listen to waaay too much internet radio on my current phone to give that up. Driving to work, driving back, uuh....guess that's it...
Anyway I'm surprised though that this wouldn't be allowed though...I would think they would let the user determine
how much data they can/can not use.
Apparently the/. comment editor makes a horrible IDE.

The northernmost city in North America with a metro population of over one million is Edmonton. June through August has an average temperature of about 22 Celsius (72 F), unless they wanted to go more north (there's not much up there), they're still going to need to have cooling in place for a few months at least. Granted, in the winter, all they would need to do is suck air from the outside.
They won't let planes fly near ash clouds as a safety measure. Reduces visibility, can wreck the windshield and probably the worst thing is that ash and jet engines don't get along. The reason it's getting so much attention is that there are many many flight paths that go near Iceland as it provides a shorter path between the two continents.
Bang on. At my previous job I was not just a programmer, I was a developer (ie. involved in design), and I was making something that I found very interesting. We were a small group, so you were on your own most of the time and was challenging, which I enjoyed. I found myself looking forward to work and even staying late to finish whatever thought process I currently had. Now...I hold the Programmer title and work in spurts at boring and uninteresting projects watching the clock so I can bolt out the door as soon as possible. Obviously, at the moment, I am off-spurt.
I've been saying this for years. Developing on the Blackberry was a nightmare...and I wasn't even on that team. Good riddance.

How about....a 'special' comment section where you have to solve a graduate level problem to get entry.
My bad, I thought he replied to GP, oops.
I wish you had mod points too.
It's the safest, most secure and private place on the internet I can think of.
I prefer Colbert personally, he's my hero.

I remember that I worked for my parents all summer to save up enough money to buy a SNES when I was younger
You had a SNES when you were younger?? I JUST bought one 2 days ago. (not joking)

I don't think anything regarding phone capability has been confirmed yet but a 2 month old screen-shot shows the phone icon, so chances are...that doesn't really mean anything http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/03/samsung-galaxy-tab-revealed/

Is it just me or does it seem ridiculous that "our device X supports flash" is becoming a major selling point??

Right, but intercontinental air travel going near Europe is canceled as well, at least from Canada. http://www.aircanada.com/en/news/trav_adv/100415.html
