I do agree with you for the most part, but, well, look at the recent historical evidence for his assumptions: like all of the moderate Muslims who didn't come out of the woodwork to counter the blood-thirsty protesters when that Dutch paper printed the Muhammad bomb-hat cartoon...or the tolerant, rational Muslims who where invisible when the grade school teacher innocently let her students name a teddy bear after their prophet and the masses were protesting for her head on a stick. No, it's not fair to judge a people by the vocal minority, but it's up to their majority to show the world differently. Christians can be idiotic zombies as well, but it's been a while since they explicitly called for killings to atone for a single "sinful" gesture against Christ en masse.

And, yes, I am one of those people who basically lump all Abrahamic religions into one group; I think the whole concept is hypocritical and exclusive. But that's just me.

True dat...a few examples that come to mind of reality totally disagreeing with what I would have expected based on my opinion of "rational" and current popular opinions:

    • Continued unchecked domination of Microsoft in most channels they play in
    • GW Bush wasn't fired in year 4
    • People say they hate tabloid journalism, but someone pays for it
    • Las Vegas, aka Sin City, overwhelmingly chose a high-ranking mormon as it's GOP candidate in January
    • Jessica Alba still won't return my calls, despite my superior genetic profile and stunning good looks.

I think the moral is that it's easy to form opinions based on your peer group, but unless you're a 52 year old white male making $65k a year and living in Boise, ID, your reference group probably doesn't reflect the larger populace.

Very true...corporation management in Nevada is a huge business down here in Vegas...I have friends who are "Presidents" or "Officers" of dozens of corporations who bounce from empty office to empty office throughout the month, because there is some kind of requirement around having to spend so much time per month on site. It's not unique to MS by any means. All above board, just jumping through weird loopholes created by Carson City.

In addition, I would bet that Microsoft is also not a Washington State corporation as an entity: most large entities are incorporated in DC for other tax/regulatory reasons.

Fair to Washington State residents or not, there is nothing remotely illegal about what they are doing; in fact, I would argue that if they didn't take advantage of the opportunities available to them and their competitors to make/save money, they aren't doing their fiduciary duty to their shareholders.

I am pro-choice, long-time Libertarian, and an outspoken atheist. Paul is pro-life Republican who doesn't think the separation of church and state is all that important. I really had to think this one through, but there are bigger fish to fry right now than those...reclaiming our dignity as a country and rights as citizens, fixing the economy, bring our troops home, and wiping W's feces off of the Constitition. So...I registered (choke) Republican last month, and I attended caucus training last week so I know what to do Jan 19 to get Dr Paul on the ballot in Nevada.

    1. Ron Paul supporters have in a very grassroots manner raised record amounts of cash for him so far, which goes to show that he has the support of a large number of very frustrated voters who mean very much to get his ass in the White House. They are showing up in droves to boring meetings/meetups and stump-stops, filling rooms that the front-runners can't even come close to (I saw that firsthand here in Las Vegas two weeks ago).

    2. This is fucking Slashdot, one of the best examples to-date of the power of the CyberMob.
