Think about it, with the lunar landing site declared a monument, that will prevent further deforestation of the area and help preserve the multitude of flora and fauna that call it home.
I work in the streaming media biz, and although I think it's admirable that someone would limit all their viewing to streams, be realistic - there's still no substitute for tv, and that won't change until people think about 56k modems the same way we think of 300 baud externals today. Maybe once broadband is the norm, tv and streams will converge. Until then, the boob toob is the only way to get all the tv programming you want.

My favorite highlight of last season's Junkyard Wars was the all-terrain vehicle that had a cannon that shot a boat anchor to winch itself out of bogs. Slap THAT sucker on the front of your Battlebot and the Gold Nut is yours, hands down!

>It's the consumer that will have the final say, and the majority of consumers are in favor of napster and other file-sharing services.
Actually, it's the internet-savvy consumer that is in favor of napster and othe file-shares. I shun the RIAA just as vehemently as the next guy on/., but you're having problems seeing the scope of the situation - There's a helluva lot of people on the net, but there's a helluva lot more that aren't, and those NON-net-savvy consumers couldn't care less about napster or file-shares. They only see this as a legitimate business fending off technology-mad thieves and pirates.
It's really sad, but it's true - the people outraged by this whole fiasco are a tiny minority compared to people that just don't care. RIAA will be struck down and condemned in the future, but for now, they will prevail. The people that need convincing watch TV, they don't use computers. RIAA's propoganda in non-internet arenas is not only unparallelled, it's also totally unchallenged. People as a whole are sheep, and the RIAA has the shepherd's staff.
In either case, it's Orwellian. Animal Farm is a much better example.

I'm not going to get involved with the US/Canada pissing contest, but whoever said the moderation system here sucks was dead on.
That being said, I think privatization of the space program is an excellent idea. Our governmentS (US and Canada) should be spending their funding on solving problems at home before looking at exploration. NASA puts a lot of commercial satellites in the air using our tax dollars, but we can't get more cops to chase the crackheads off our streets, or better yet, chase them off our streets and put them in rehab instead of prison.
To sum up: slashdot moderation: needs work space program: sweet, but improperly funded sophomoric country comparisons: yawn

In light of this discovery, I'd like to submit that STILE SUX and JapScat will revolutionize the web.
There was actually a Simpsons episode that addressed this very topic - and it ended up with Homer being added to the dictionary (with his pic), with the definition of 'success in spite of incompetence'.

Patience, grasshopper. Metallica hasn't made a dime on musical merit in at least 5 years, maybe more - the only thing that keeps them going is the loyal fanbase they built back when they had musical integrity and something to say with their music... a fanbase that Metallica has no problem alienating, and is doing so with much zeal - not just with their legal MP3 tangles, but with the shoddy and formulaic pop-metal they insist on delivering lately.
2 more years, you'll see your dumpster-diving Lars.

As a user of the @home service, I have watched their front-end migrate to Excite@home, and up to this point, I'm unimpressed. The tv ads that enticed me to sign up for @home promised stupid-fast audio and video delivery, which isn't quite what I got, and now I'll get the privelege of paying more to get what was originally promised!
As an avid reader and a hopeless geek when it comes to computers, I've tried reading digital books - it don't fly with me. Old-fashioned though it may be, there's no substitute for something you can carry to the park, or the bathroom, or the bus and read a bit at a time. My comprehension is better on paper, the portability is a big value-add, and I don't want to burn out my printer running off a book just so I can read it someplace besides my desk.
Plus, you can loan a friend a book. Give them a digital copy of anything, and that's piracy.
I'd say go with both mediums, paper AND electronic. That way you can hit both markets, those old farts like me and the technomad that think if it isn't pixellated it isn't worth looking at.

I think 'they' should put out the Watchmen as a movie. Miller really churned out a winner with that series, and it would RULE on the screen.
As much as I was disappointed with Wolverine in the X-Men movie, that guy would make a righteous Rorschach. Think about it, Hollywood!
