I'll bite to the topic because I have nothing better to do:
Actually, the Church was not against homosexuality until the black plague in europe, where 50 to 75% of the population died ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Death ) and there was a need to repopulate. The Church then outlawed / banned any sexual conduct that did not result in procreation. I am sorry for not having any hard evidence, but here's a link which I found trying to get some supporting evidence to my claim: http://www.tobyjohnson.com/biblesays.html.
With the Church having full control of the dissemination of information until recently, it's really hard to prove or disprove anything on the subject, but given their habbit of censoring information and modifying reality to fit their credo, I tend to give credit to that version of the events.
Solution: show destop, then click any window. The lost dialog will magicly appear !
And I second putting the menu on the side to regain vertical space. Works great for me.
Ok, I watched the movie. Lots of sad school shootings. Sad sad story, which I don't wish to anyone.
Now, on to more pragmatic matters: where exactly does it say that prior intelligence would have stopped them ?
I hope you are aware that in most of these cases ( as in school shooting ), there were absolutely NO PRIOR INFORMATION that this could have happened. It even baffles their friends. Notwithstanding that in most cases its even happening AT the work place in question which made the guy go nuts.
Thats like saying you can catch terrorist by the same method, but watching for religious zealousness.....
Seriously, where does the line between a console and an embedded system lies ? I mean, if this would go through, does this mean that DELL can ship a computer running windows and legally refrain you from installing another operating system or restricting you to an app store with pre-approved apps ?
I understand that one is a general purpose computer while the other is a game console, so the intended usage is the difference. But under the hood, they are the same hardware ( ok, not litteraly... ) and can do exactly the same things.
Can you imagine the legal precedent this would set ?
I was wondering exactly the same thing. I guess the computers in question are not in the shielded habitat, hence does not need all the rad-hardening. But if it is possible to do it this way, would not it be more pratical to but the "servers" in the shielded part of the habitat ? Easier servicing, free cooling for the habitat, etc...
The only difference in this application of the law is that it does not take into account expertise as armed conflict does.
This rancher you talk about, could he repel said attacker ? Does he have the mean to do it ? Does the U.S. Army ? no, no, yes.
Now, let's use another example: how many big scales DDoS we're repelled by U.S. Big Network Carriers ? How many were repelled by the feds / U.S. Army / DHS ? What is their experience / expertise in the field ?
You might wish to extrapolate "The laws of armed conflict... from the physical world to the logical one", but it will require a little more work than as-is implementation......
That is what is beautifull with "intel". It's most of the time classified as top-secret, the sources cannot be identified for "national security" reasons, and it is really easy to forge at the higher top. Exactly what happened with Iraq, A war I believe is still on-going and would have required the same trigger as the proposed bill.
I am not technically against giving access to the infrastructure to the U.S. Army in a state of war, as it would be the only way to assure physical security of the said infrastructure, but I really do not believe that their expertise in managing network security would be better than what is already present in today's infrastructure.
Let's be honest: r00ting a U.S. Army server is not the hardest thing to do in the world. Extracting critical / secret information from it is a different matter. You cannot implement such a segregation of data on the fly on let's say, at&t's backbone in a few minutes......
Actually, the idea to use a tactical nuke came from the U.S. Army and was rejected as it would prevent BP from recuperating the rest of the crude available in this area without massive costs. It is also the first idea that came through the oval office. I believe that it is what triggered the public outcry about Obama's in-ability to handle the situation.
This came from radio-canada, so no links, sorry.
I always liked dreamhost (not for their uptime....), this just confirms it. It is good to see a compagny using open source software contributing back like this.
Wow. If I ever hear again that my code looks like crap, I am just gonna have the other person install and try the MTX thingy. It really put "bad code" into perspective....
I though that to be able to retain your address space you need to prove to you are actually using it. At least as far as ARIN is concerned.
No worry, it was more of a joke than anything else ;)
Looks like hi-res does not mean the same thing for everyone...

are T1's even still available outside of the telco world ?
Now that they are mostly out of work, they need a way to sustain their hooker needs !

You can disable it when you re-compile your kernel. You'll need to manually edit your kernel config though.
