    It is crazy, but I think you are right. I don't see how such a project would work today. Too much corruption and inflation. In Québec, we can't even build our own bridges anymore. We let private company do it, then charge tolls for like 20 years, they they give us the bridge back ( well maintained, I am sure....). All under the guise of we can't afford to build a new bridge. Well, you would if you were getting the tools ! I think the real problem is that we don't teach critical thinking in school anymore...

    Your argument was actually quite valide. The only thing I would add to it, is signing the page. Let me explain:

    1. Do all the above steps
    2. Hash ( and store ) the output buffer ( PHP ) before flushing it to the browser
    3. When preparing the POST to send the auth to the server, have the JS include the hash of the current page

    If they do not match: you know code was injected in the page.

    What I really don't get is why would you allow desktop streaming but not an appliance if the idea is to protect your your IP and keep your traditional business model ( ad revenu ). It's much easier to rip a feed from a desktop / laptop / HTPC / whatever than from a locked appliance !

    95% of the PC I fix / clean have AVG installed. I think it's the program I un-install the most frequently.

    What happens if you are a registered google user ? Don't you already allow them specifically to retain data on you as a user ? Retaining data from your WAP is just an extension of this right if you really what to take it literally regarding Canadian law.

    Is there really that many new companies / ISP requiring /8's ? The only reasons so many of them are being allocated is because the people with the money see an opportunity to make more money. Have we been really allocating 1.5 /8 per month for the past 4-5 years ? We would have run out LONG time ago. No, they see a shortage, everybody runs for it.
