The screen is really the same as a GBC. Most of the concern probably stems from the dark, low-contrast colors that prevail in Castlevania - all other games are perfectly easy to see. My experience with the game is that you need really good lighting. It's worth it, though - this may be the best Castlevania ever.
It's really pathetic that nobody posted the above correct response until after over 100 posts. vitaflo is right, beta software games crash all the time in public demos. Several of the GameCube demo games also crashed also, yet this fact doesn't appear on slashdot's front page. Means very little when none of these games will appear in their final version before November.
Yes, but MS is probably losing more than any of the others. Early reports are that MS will lose about $150/box. I'd also heard that licencing fees for XBox games were a lot lower than those for PS2 and Game Cube; I don't know if this is true, though.
There's nothing sinister about having licensing fees lower than Nintendo's - practically every console there's ever been has had lower licensing fees. Also, new game consoles have been sold below cost at least since the 16-bit era. The PS2 also initially lost around $150 per box - this is not that unusual in the console business. Your comments look especially silly now that it's been leaked that Nintendo is going to price their console $100 lower than the Xbox.
When MS plans to LOSE 3-4 BILLION DOLLARS, you know there's something up their sleeves. Dumping is their strategy; don't be fooled.
Incidentally, "dumping" is a myth invented by the US semiconductor industry to get the FTC to make the industry less competitive, screw consumers, and keep IC prices high. As someone who lectures others about economic ignorance, you should know this.
If matter can't move in space-time, then I think Einstein would have noticed that none of his thought experiements were even possible.
Oh, unenlightened one, if only you had read the informative web page of the person you are responding to, you would REALIZE that most of the major figures in 20th century physics are crackpots! Here is a portion of the list of liars taken from the aforementioned page:
Stephen Hawking
Kip Thorne
John A. Wheeler
Richard Feynman
Michio Kaku
John Gribbin
Carl Sagan
The problem with you, and all the people in the list above, is that you are all weirdos who believe in "time travel!" That is, one-directional time travel into the future. Clearly this is impossible!
Ha! Fools! Ahahaha! HAHAHAHAHA! Fools, all of them FOOLS!
I really have to wonder how much marijuana alewando smoked before posting this
So only people who smoke marijuana understand that skydiving is dangerous? For your information, skydiving causes hundreds of deaths, accidents and airplane crashes. This is for an activity that is purely entertainment and thrills - in other words, utterly superfluous.
Government regulations on the sale of cabbage amount to about 27,000 words. Federal regulations regarding hamburger meat take up twelve feet of bookshelf space. And yet they haven't written one simple law that would prevent the senseless waste of life and equipment that has been caused by skydiving.
Moderators who don't read any books/watch any movies should watch what they mod down as "troll." That said, somebody with mod points please take 5 seconds to read and consider this post, which I'm quoting here:
Monoliths have been directly linked to increases in weapon-making and violent clubbings, through studies on higher primates.
Another reason that the PS2 and GameCube won't be any competition is, well, pure numbers. The system specs of the X-Box, in a handy chart comparing them to the GameCube and PS2.
About every other line of that system specs chart has a major inaccuracy in it. I'll go through some of them in order (refer to the chart to see what I'm talking about).
In the "CPU" row, it only emphasizes the clock speeds of each CPU. The fact is that a PowerPC chip accomplishes quite a bit more per clock cycle than the P3 does. The GC and Xbox CPUs are very nearly evenly matched.
The chart doesn't have a date on it, but many of the items that have been marked "N/A" in the GameCube column refer to specs that have been known about for months - and in some of these categories the GameCube unquestionably outdoes the Xbox specs. For example, the Xbox will be able to apply 4 textures per pass; the GC will do 8; the planetxbox chart lists "N/A" for the GC.
Two lines down the chart lists memory bandwidth for each system - xbox 6.4GB/s, PS2 3.2GB/s, GC 3.2GB/s. This is totally misleading, also - for the latter two systems, this number depends on which piece of memory you're talking about. The GC has up to about 12GB/s of bandwidth to some of its texture cache, for instance.
Next the chart lists raw polygon counts - which are usually meaningless - and the number listed for the GC is just incorrect because Nintendo has never even released raw polygon counts precisely because these numbers are so meaningless. The 6-12 million number the chart is using is not a raw polygon count; it assumes one is applying 8 effects layers and real-time lighting. Several developers have commented that this number is conservative by a factor of about two. In other words this line of the chart compares apples to oranges.
Next the planetxbox chart gives fill rate figures. Even considering 2 textures this is hardly a realistic number; PC gamers for years have had to learn to ignore the raw pixel fill rates claimed in the specs for 3d graphics cards. Include z-buffering, alpha-blending, texture-mapping, MIP-mapping, etc... in real life the fill rate will literally only be a fraction (think 1/5 or so - possibly much less) of the 4000M pixels claimed. The Xbox is still quite good in this area, but there's no reason to cherry-pick irrelevant engineering specs in order to demonstrate it.
I'll stop here. I have to conclude that planetxbox's chart is mostly useless as a comparison tool. Just to make matters clear, I have high hopes for the xbox, and even imagine it has a great shot at edging out the PS2. But there was no need to lie with numbers in order to make this point.
I know at first it sounds like they are smoking something, but Einstein's theory of the fourth dimension (time) was also not obvious when he proposed it.
Actually it was Minkowski who introduced the concept of 4-d spacetime.
Damn good thing, that. Mao's "Great Leap Forward" caused the biggest famine in human history; he presided over a laogai system which claimed well over 10 million lives; and his "Cultural Revolution" also murdered over 10 million people. Moreover he helped instigate the death and enslavement of millions of Koreans in order to expand communism's influence. Tens of millions fled in desparation to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, and even the US. Good riddance to the bloodiest tyrant ever, Mao Tse-Tung.
The capitalist roaders in the party that Mao called upon the masses to overthrow did exactly as he warned they would when they came to
power (after his death in 1976)
Yeah, they put a lid on all the dying and suffering, and the living standard in China is finally rising steadily now that they're somewhat less communist.
In light of the tens of millions of victims of Chinese communism, I declare that you, P30P73Z-H4X0R are one sick and twisted individual for defending history's most prolific[*]mass murderer, Mao. You are a complete shame an d disgrace.
Officially, the Chinese are generally admitting that the plane was in international airspace. In fact, the complaint they have been making is that the US aircraft landed on Chinese territory without permission. I seriously doubt that the official Chinese news (propaganda) plays up the charge that they "landed without permission," because it would be such a goofy thing to be upset over, but the diplomats are sticking to that issue because under international law it may very well be the only leg they have to stand on.
The government propaganda machine is telling people that the plane was invading Chinese airspace, spying, and maneuvering agressively against the F-8 buzzing by. The purpose of this version of events is to portray the US as a bully.
There is another point that I haven't seen raised in this discussion yet. President Jiang has been out of the country during much of these events, and the PLA has probably had considerable control over the way this is being handled. The PLA leadership is full of hard-liners who, compared to Jiang, are much more nationalist and belligerant toward the US. The PLA has considerable power and independence, unlike the US military, which is under civilian control. Another factor is that Jiang isn't very respected in China.
I wonder how much of this is payback for the whole Wen Ho Lee thing at Los Alamos?
Wen Ho Lee was not a Chinese spy. (Actually, like many Taiwanese, he is perhaps unduly paranoid about the mainland.) He was basically a fall guy - the victim in the Clinton Administration's attempt to appease Republican critics. When all was said and done, it turned out all they could nail him with was the improper handling of information that is already in the public domain. See for example this page , this one or this one. The judge in the case used sentencing as an opportunity to give Lee an apologetic speech about the government's abuses in the case. He was sentenced to perform time already served (in other words, allowed to walk) as punishment for unauthorized possession of data, for which he plead guilty. The original charges contained 59 counts.

What game is that from? It could be the next ALL YOUR BASE!
I doubt it...but it does still crack me up. Anyway, the game is called BattleRangers, and I found the image zanyvg.overclocked.org. Most of the stuff featured there is boring but I should give credit since that's where I stole the image from myself. I put the image on my roommate's computer so I could get a shorter url that would fit within the 120 char sig limit.
Games like Starcraft work on an almost entirely peer-to-peer basis. The server's only role is in giving the peers a place to match up with each other - much like napster. And I think starcraft qualifies as a commercial success, partly because of the online multiplayer scene.
I'm not sure if you realized this, but Brownie Brown has a chunk of ex-Square employees working for them.

So it's not exactly 17. But you get the idea. 22=17+5. Law of fives. That must be why I made the mistake.
