But unless you happen to live more than 4 km from your telephone station, the ADSL choice is always available. Haven't used a modem in years.

I'm fairly certain that the woman in the trailer is Galadriel, elven queen. She's rather important to the story line and rids Frodo of a few doubts he holds.

Another chick to expect is Eowyn, slayer of the King of Angmar, in Return of the King.

I'm not attacking you, but exactly how much do you know about other countries and the living conditions in them? Being a European that's lived in the US for five months, I can tell you that most Americans haven't a single clue about any other country, and tend to put us down as a remnant cottate-living people with technology from two centuries ago.

I'm surprised by the level of fake freedom the US hosts, and how proud their sheep citizens are of this system. No hard feelings.

A corporation infringes on your right when the government doesn't care to stop it. USA is the most corporated-oriented country I've been to so far, I'm from Sweden but have lived in Ohio for five months now.

I'd say Sweden among other European countries put much more pressure on corporations, not trusting them as the US does. Trusting something that is made up by the sole purpose of making money with people's safety is doomed to fail. In its quest for ultimate corporate freedom, the US has entangled itself in a state of just as fake freedom as communism allegedly provides.

Interestingly enough, as you mentioned African-Americans not being able to afford the PS2, there were a lot of black people camping in line where I got mine. I'm not gonna say more than half - you know, all the Jolt that night; but there were enough for me to notice it.

Furthermore, I don't think Slashdot is injecting some sort of racism in this, they are merely reporting what is going on, and a *lot* of people are interested in what's going on with the PS2.

  14. Re:Now that it's out... on The PS2 Experience · · Score: 2

The DVD playback in the US version is great, I would definitely say you wouldn't have to buy a DVD player if you get a PS2. This does not apply if you are an audiophile, though; however, it does have several advanced methods of ouput, including component video.

That the Japanese model had rather bad playback was all due to that it was software and came preloaded on the 8 MB memory card that shipped with the unit in Japan. This memory card was ridiculously easy to region hack, and Sony came up with hardware MPEG-2 decoding for the US model. Also, on the decoding note, it does decode DTS, for you real home theater system people out there.

It comes as unchangeable (can you say modchip?) region 1, and includes some lame parental control, but you can turn that off with some menu maneuvering.

The Dual Shock controller is used as a remote, something not that handy, as it is wired and awkward to use. There are, however, third party remotes with an IR unit to plug into a controller port. The one I got in my Best Buy bundle - camped for six hours, thank you - was the InterAct one. It works, but that's about it, they seem to have mixed up the printing of the "Enter" and "Cancel" buttons so that they do the opposite action.

I just tried out some of my DVDs on it - exclusively anime plus Matrix, the latter also came bundled in Best Buy's extra package. Crisp, smooth - all in all, great. There wasn't even any noticing the layer skip in Matrix, which is dual layer.

It is estimated (and I'm not going to quote the sources here because they are well known) that Linux holds a 4% share of the desktop market... barely trailing the Macintosh's 5%. Please note that the tiny 5% marketshare that the Mac has is ONLY AFTER a period of record sales figures. How the Macintosh can be seen as a potential force in the desktop world with 5% of the market, and Linux is seen by many (currently) as a desktop failure with only 1% difference is beyond me.

Most likely because most of the 5% Macs are user machines, while most of the 4% Linux boxes are server machines.
