Furthermore, if someone is going to pirate an ebook, why would they bother going through their library's website? I'm sure a few people will do this, thinking that they are somehow doing something "more ethical" or whatever (I've heard this argument from people who check out CDs and rip MP3s as opposed to just torrenting the albums), but it's not going to be very many. Why put up with the extra hassles?
If I had to take a guess, I'd say that the vast majority of people borrowing ebooks through their local library wouldn't even know what DRM is, let alone how to go about removing it.
Best thing for authors (such as GP) to remember when publishing electronically: the people who are going to pay for your content will pay for it if the quality is there. The people who are going to pirate it aren't likely to buy it at any price and aren't even worth worrying about.
Are you aware that the library lending program is administered through OverDrive, not directly through Amazon? Are you also aware that it is opt-in only on a per-title basis?
Microsoft "stick" to what they started? Seems to me that they throw out shit all the time. Bing is a perfect example of where they also throw out customer-facing services. Just a few years ago it was "Live Search," which failed terribly as a brand, so they threw it out and started paying people to use Bing to pump up their search rankings.
You may also remember Microsoft Zune and Kin. Perhaps you blinked and missed those?
Or maybe you just notice the Google ones more because, like me, you find them more useful and thus actually feel the impact when they shutdown a project.
Your ideas intrigue me and I'd very much like to subscribe to your newsletter. Does this "Everything" you speak of being free include other meals (such as Brunch, the Holy Grail of meals), or is it limited to the mid-day repast only?
Not the best example for eboooks. Nook uses ePub, which is just zipped HTML/XML. Getting the files out of BN might be a problem, but not cracking the DRM and reading the content.
That's okay, in my career I've found most people who know anything didn't learn any of it in school anyway. The problem is relying upon degrees so heavily as a gauge of competency in hiring. Maybe if enough clowns cheat their way through university it will force hiring managers to re-evaluate the criteria they're using to make their decisions.
Not if he donates to a charity that is clothing the homeless. How are they supposed to stay warm in the winter when the coats Steve bought them only have one button?!?
If you burn the money then no one is receiving it, so there's nothing to tax. You argue against taxes but don't understand even the first thing about taxation.
Your comments aren't appropriate anywhere because they're ignorant beyond salvation.
No, moron. The tax is levied against the recipient of the inheritance, not the deceased. The person inheriting the money is receiving it as income, for which they did no work and produced no value, and are being taxed accordingly.
If you ever gain the intelligence to understand the concepts in play, feel free to come back and discuss them. Until then, piss off.
You should be able to follow the links. The 3rd gen Kindles have a Webkit-based browser built in. I've never tried a PDF, but it certainly works for books in Amazon's Mobi format, so it should work with PDF as well.
I wouldn't even care if a "UI expert" were in charge, so long as they were actually an expert at making UIs instead of being a complete clown without the first clue about how to design a UI. Apple has the same problem with clowns running their UI designs, but at least they have first-rate clowns rather than the third-rate ones calling the shots on projects like GNOME.
I live in a black & white world and Fox News is always wrong. Is that still the case in your greyscale world?

Irregardless, educated people often employ improper English ironically.
But the real question is, why would anyone think they are "paying more for less" in the first place?
Because they're buying Apple products?

How could you forget the Kindle app for Windows Phone 7? I'm sure you've deeply offended both of the Windows Phone 7 users.

You realize TNG was shot on 35mm film, right?
Soon I'll get to buy My Little Pony in HD
Fixed that for you.

Fuck yeah! Kindle DS!!!
Let me recommend a lighted cover. It's really great, though a bit pricey.

My understanding was that eInk hadn't managed to overcome the issues with the colors appearing washed out. Has this changed in the last year or so?
Since I'm completely correct, no. You're just proving that you're as much of a moron as the other guy. Move along now, son.

It's "theft" to tax income? Especially income that isn't earned?
Congratulations on your ultimate triumph of stupidity. Your mother must be very proud to have raised such a complete moron.

I have a math coputer at home. It helps my puter pute floating point operations.

Some guy's blog. Almost as poorly written as Destructoid, too. Pretty pathetic.
Did we ever? Pretty sure that was always reserved for douchebags and morons.
