And many inventions are the result of much thinking and creativity. The artificial heart, MRI machine, and the integrated chip were not discovered - that was the result of someone's creativity and genius.
I could spend many many many lifetimes playing around with silicon and I would never have discovered the integrated chip.
Don't get me wrong, I'm completely against software patents, but I'm way more offended by "business method" patents. And patents on something that someone did a hundred years ago, only now someone adds the line "on a computer" and suddenly that's a new patentable event.
those and patent on genes. Plah-ease! No one invented anything there - it was just discovered.
and the environmental laws keeping lead and other shit out of the water table. All because of our stupid environmental laws, I can't experience good'ol fashioned Industrial Revolution style air and water! I mean, our rivers don't even burn anymore! That is causing more of the wussification of America!
Really? I read that line as a worry of a massive unexpected cost. If you can automate a whole factory, and then the UPS guy says he gets injured on your premises, you can lose 20 million easy.
Wouldn't the factory owner's general liability insurance handle that? Which would probably be a $50K pay-off to the UPS guy and his lawyer.
It all started when I sold something on eBay. Turns out it was with a stolen credit card. So they reversed the payment leaving me with a -$600 balance. Which they said was my fault somehow.
That was their problem. PayPal was the one taking the credit card and acting as the (very well compensated) intermediary between buyer and seller. PayPal does the actual processing and therefore from the credit card's company's point of view, is the merchant.
If PayPal is going to charge all those fees for processing (talk about nickle and diming!), I would argue that they should take the risk of fraud. Otherwise, there really is no point in using them, is there.
Yes, because the world would be better off if every one of us lived on an island, unable to specialize.
OTOH, countries whose economies are overly specialized (any agriculture based economy as an example) are highly susceptible to the whims of the market of the particular specialization. Your economy is based on growing rice, rice prices fall, you're screwed. Economy based on oil or any other natural resource, oil runs out or prices plummet, you're screwed. Economy based on tourism, hurricane knocks out your island, you're screwed until you rebuild.
That's why the UAE has been going apeshit in trying to diversify away from oil. Then they fucked that up but never the less, they see the writing on the wall.
There's a reason for why technology exports are regulated. If that comes at the cost of a bit less money to the aerospace companies then so be it.
That's right! And it's a good thing that the US has a monopoly on space and aviation technology that US based companies can afford to deal with these regulations. After all, EAS and other European companies, Japanese, and other Asian companies are completely incapable of competing with US companies in terms of technology and innovation.
A country wants a missile, well they can only buy from the US. Fighter jet? Same thing. Ships - anything military we're the only game in town.
even non-military. Those Dell PCs can be used to design nukalear bomms! And it's a good think PC are assembled in the US because if other countries got the technology to assemble all those Asian made components into working computers and wrote the software for it, we'd be in big trouble!
Thank God the rest of the World is sooo stupid that they can't duplicate our superior American technology!
Unfortunately, there are a bunch of business and finance websites that I use that have JavaShit all over the fucking thing and the only way to see their content is to have JavaShit turned on. And then you have these websites that have so many JavaShit shit on their websites that you can't click on things because they have these JavaShitty popup bullshit that gets in the way.
I think there should be an operating system written in JavaShit that web developers would have to use by law - JavaShit OS. Build it on top of MS DOS. That'll slow'em down.
The way the IRS one works is that you get a spam email with an attachment. You click on the attachment which brings you to a site that looks just like the IRS'. It then asks for bank accounts, credit cards, debit cards, SSN, DOB, adresses, names, etc... everything needed to rob you blind.
The IRS pretty much doesn't give a shit - they're pretty blaze about it when contacted.
Like everything with the internet:
ALL spam emails are scams. That's what I tell people when they ask about this shit.
This is good news for both Google and Apple. Bad news for the networks. But lets face it, when YouTube with its piano playing cats, hyperactive teenagers and snippets of prime time TV manages to outperform the major networks, the major networks have only themselves to blame!
Cats? I use Youtube for instructional videos and things like that. Reading about something, anything, and don't understand it? Somewhere there's a video that shows you how to do it. Want to know what is the real deal that Wall Street cut with the Congressmen? Go to Youtube.
Because network TV just rehashes the same shit.
PBS turned into the Antiques, Beatles, Wayne Dyer, Suzy Orman, Ken Burns network.
I wonder if we'll ever see a Bible, Quran, and Talmud burning protesting the small mindedness of religion and how it gives people the false hope that God will save us from of all our problems and that we can continue our mindless consumption and destruction of the planet and extinction of species because He put this planet here for us.
Frankly, while I find the idea of burning any book abhorrent I think that spitting in the face of these radicals of Islam is more important than not.
I have never thought of it that way but I get the impression that the Reverend is just doing it because he's a bigot. BUT again, if the side effect is spitting in the face of Radical Islam, I'm not so sure now that I'm against these actions anymore.
Salesman of expensive system takes school district decision maker out for dinner and whatnot and explains how this will solve their compliance issues - it's high tech after all!
School guy says, yeah but why don't we just feed them what's required by law?
Salesguy: But this is high tech! By the way, here's the literature and specs of the system in this briefcase - you can keep this old thing.
Schoolguy: Well, it is for the good of the children! Where do I sign?
"We’re making sure that as they’re leaving the lunch line that the menu items they’ve selected match up with state law, so they’re selecting a meal that has all the basic [components] of good nutrition,” said school district spokesman Jarrett Peterson. “We’re not tracking what each individual child eats.”
So, no one thought of serving only nutritious food that meets the guidelines? Instead they spent (I'm sure a fortune) on an electronic system to track this stuff. And you just know that the school district is or will have budget problems and it won't occur to them as to why.
It is the same with aviation accidents. Sometimes it's just an individual screwing up, but that's the exception.
No, it's the norm if not always the reason. Poke around here and you'll see that just about all aviation accidents are because someone screwed up. The NTSB is excellent at pinpointing the failure. The most I've ever seen was an accident several years ago that had three causes: 1. bad weather, 2. improper maintenance, 3. pilot error in dealing with failure. Most of the time, it boils down to #3 - pilot error.
I could spend many many many lifetimes playing around with silicon and I would never have discovered the integrated chip.
The same with a comet that is discovered or asteroid?
Or anything else that exists in nature?

I know you are trying to be funny...
Ouch! That hurts man.
Used "Iron Man" DVD case for sale: $6.00 - DVD thrown in for free!

I mean, how do you linger for any real length of time in Google?
I take it you've never googled "Christina Hendricks" and clicked on "Images"?

I so fucking disgusted right now.
Makes sense, Sagan was all about the "organics," man.
He shopped at Whole Foods?

Until the bacterium reroute the main power conduits through the deflector beam to create an inverse tachyon pulse. Then what?
That's assuming they can use their collective consciousness to organize to do that.
If Assange is no longer claiming "cia!" why are people still claiming diversion and conspiracy.
Wait. Did he ever blame the CIA?
The only people I've seen accusing the CIA are folks posting on the internet.
Or if you have a Dell laptop(Jewish) with an HP netbook made in Malaysia (Muslim) ....
Or A Dell (TX - red state) and an HP (CA- blue state)...
No, there will be problems!
It looks like to me it'd vaporize a city like NY.
