Get a lawyer. Won't cost that much really and the thousand dollars you might spend now will save you tens or hundreds of thousands or more later.

Better idea: purchase a membership to Pre-Paid Legal.

This is a service which costs $26 a month (or less, depending on the state you live in), and allows you telephone access to lawyers for any question, any number of times.

They will write letters and make phone calls for you, for instance if you're trying to collect, or if you need help resolving a dispute. If the issue takes more resources, they have a reduced hourly rate (25% off) so it's worth it even if your problem is not covered for free.

They offer more services, like traffic defense, civil (or job-related criminal) defense, and audit defense; and there's a "legal shield" which is available 24-hours a day in case you're detained by a police officer or security guard.

Yes, I do make money when someone joins, but I use the service myself and it has saved me a ton of money. There's a short movie at the web site if you want to check it out.

They'll even be able to answer your zoning questions for you. For free.

I'm running the latest release on Windows 2000, and the Hulk trailer had a bunch of artifacts -- stars, white dots, in much of the black parts. Very annoying.

I don't know if these artifacts were my fault or the fault of the player/encoder, but none of the Family Guy episodes I downloaded from Kazaa have any artifacts.

Doesn't make sense, though, that Superman is weakened by rocks from his home planet. Smallville never explained this either.

And I say it's bollox that Kazza has the most content.

I guess it depends on what you're searching for. I had already installed eMule but rarely use it, as Kazaa generally has everything I search for.

For instance, looking for "Family Guy" I find only 10 files matching on eMule; only 8 of these are full episodes (>200 MB; the other two are 64 MB (a compressed episode perhaps?) and 1 MB).

On Kazaa, there are 54 full episodes (>200 MB).

My sister wanted to see "Strangers With Candy". I was able to get all the episodes from Kazaa (30 of them; not all were 200 MB, some were more compressed, down to 70-80 MB). However, eMule doesn't have a single episode (or match of any type).

Sometimes when my ReplayTV doesn't record something, I look for it on the net. In these cases I generally only find it using BitTorrent, as there's a big TV taping community sharing files through BT. Google for "BitTorrent TV" and you'll find it.

I downloaded the Bitzi software (BitCollider), but it can only tell me about files that I've already downloaded. And I have sig2dat but it's used by sites like FastTrackMovies -- they give a link, you click on it, and sig2dat converts the link into a search/download in Kazaa. I don't see a way for it to tell me whether a certain file which shows up from a search is valid or not. (If you know, please respond! Thanks.)

Trick-or-treaters either deface your property (tricks), or remove your property (taking treats). The Baghdad looters are doing the same, destroying Saddam's buildings and museums and removing the property from within them (they also hit hospitals, which isn't so nice).

On the other hand, violators of copyright are simply making copies. There is no defacing of property, and there is no removal of property.

Honestly the only way we're going anywhere but down the drain is if people can someday stand up and vote for some candidates who will actually reduce the size of government and bring some efficiency to the table. I may sound a little too idealist, but there are alternatives to democrats and republicans out there.

And they'll never get into office in any substantial way (I know New Hampshire (or Vermont?) has some libertarians in office, and Jesse Ventura was from a third party as well).

Why? Because of the way the money situation is set up. Campaign contribution limits. Most people are for them -- "Don't let the politicians waste our money!" But people don't understand the real issue.

Republicans and Democrats have a huge donation-base. If everyone is limited to $100 a year, they're still taking in a lot of money. However, any third party has a significantly smaller population that can and will donate, so they're limited.

Even if that third party has a very wealthy backer, s/he is not able to pour all his/her funds into the party. And this is what is keeping third parties from growing.

I remember reading an article a co-worker had which described this in terms of the "big 3" television networks, back in the 70s. They wanted to pass laws restricting the newcomer, cable TV networks. They failed. But at the same time laws were passed restricting newcomer political parties, described as "benefitting the public", and they succeeded.

So well, in fact, that our most recent presidential election could have been called either way. By the only two parties able to (effectively) spend money.

The problem with this approach is the taxpayers end up paying for the software twice: once for the government to develop it, and again when they purchase Microsoft software.

Sure, we're arguing ideology here but Microsoft has in fact taken open sourced software from BSD-style licenses and changed it so it's incompatible (Kerberos leaps to mind, I'm sure there are other examples).

I've been thinking a lot about this exact topic lately. Specifically, personal security (privacy) among politicians.

The US Constitution guarantees the right to privacy to our citizens. However, I would argue that it does not guarantee that right to its politicians, and I would advocate steps to move in that direction.

I think politicians should be taped (audio and video) at all times, and these recordings be made available on the Internet in real-time.

This would quickly eliminate the "back room" agreements between government and business (Bush and oil, Senator Disney and the RIAA/MPAA/etc.), and would guarantee that only people who truly believed in the office, would run for it.

I have no idea how to go about suggesting my idea, and I am convinced that nobody in office would accept it (although probably 99% of the populace would agree with it). But since we're a representative democracy, rather than a real democracy, there'd be no way to put someone in office who would agree with it and move to implement it.

Something I've learned recently is that, thanks to our using growth hormones in chicken and cattle, our girls are developing secondary sexual characteristics at younger and younger ages.

This is frightening. Not only is it against nature to have nubile females at such a young age, it's also majorly against the law to lust after them.

And we desire nubile young females; the younger the better, because (this is history speaking, the condom has destroyed much of this) that means she's most likely a virgin, which means if she gets pregnant it's most likely yours, which means your genes will be carried forward instead of someone else's.

Under EO Video, it was a lot less jerky but still had pauses. And the sound was out of sync as well, about 2 seconds behind the video. I'm currently converting the video to AVI (using XVID compression), and it's taking quite a while (15 minutes and it's about halfway done).

There, it's done, and playing under BSPlayer , it isn't jerky but is somewhat pixelated during fast motion scenes. (The file went from 99 MB down to 17 MB from the XVID compression.) The sound is still wrong, it seems more off than under EO Video (3-5 seconds instead of 2).

From another comment, I downloaded and tried Media Player Classic but it was as bad as QuickTime.

Anyone else having these problems? It doesn't seem to make sense, as I have a decent processor and 1.5 GB RAM...
