C'mon, I mean really... The hyperlink patent BS again? This in just stupid. What's next, an MS patent on breathing? If we don't get this kind of frivolous litigation under control, things on the web (development-wise) are going to grind to a halt. All I can say is wow... this is bloody dumb. I am so mad I could spit, but hey, I am sure someone has a patent on that too.
What? have you ever heard of the stock market? C'mon, speculation on Games/Game companies is huge! While I don't agree that a "Crash" is coming, console manufacturers are on shakey ground. Especially as PC prices drop. How many parents will spend $450+ on a PS2 for their kids, when a decent PC with a good video card will display better graphics, surf the web, do word processing, and play DVD's? I had enough touble getting a Sega Master System out of my Parents.
Consoles are (in their current form) on the way out. That being said, manufacturers need to bring the console closer to the PC in terms of functionality, thus merging the two into one unit.
For now, companies that pump out crappy 3D shooters, Lame, over-done racing games, or RTS Games that are a genneration behind, are certainly in danger. But for the most part, companies designing cutting edge 3D or MMP games, are going to continue to fare well. One thing the tech sector has proven in the last year is that like the rest of the corporate world, sales mean everything. Sell your game, make money, don't sell your game... you get turfed.
I believe the "Open Source Ethic" refers to the network being open and free for all who wish to use it. This is a great idea, and I hope it takes off elsewhere.
Well, I don't know that I agree with you entirely. Intel is going to need a LOT of time to even catch AMD, let alone actually ship faster processors! I am not even going to discuss price.
AMD has proven, with the Athlon/Duron kick to Intel's nuts, that there is no reason to believe that the "Next Genneration" AMD offering won't be every bit as superior to the P4 as their current line is to the PIII/Celeron.
Don't count AMD out... remeber, they have not even pushed the envelope. Tom was crankin' that P4 to 1.7GHz! Gimmie a break! I'll take a next genneration AMD over the P4 any day, and I am an Intel FAN!. AMD has the momentum right now, and while Intel will gain it back eventually, it won't happen soon. Neither Intel nor AMD are going anywhere but faster, we might as well sit back and dream of 1000fps Q3.

All I have to say is that up here in Canada, it has been decided that if you folks vote Bush into office, we are coming down there to burn the White House again!
"you would think they would at least be attempting to develop drivers that they do have control of."
Are you serious? C'mon! The latest Detonator drivers kick some butt. The team at Nvidia has their collective shit wired. They produce a tight set of drivers for the best consumer level video cards on the market. Other companies have toyed with their own releases and they pale in comparison. (Creative Labs comes to mind, I own a 3D Annihilator, and the switch to the Reference drivers gave me a 15% performance increase)
There is nothing wrong with Closed Source Projects, and until the worlds economy adjusts to the dynamic created in an Open Source environment, They will be the "Norm".
I am still hooked on Bubble Bobble! Everytime I am in an Arcade, that game calls to me!
um.. I done, you can stop reading...

Well... their stock got beaten down by 25% today, so I would say it has a pretty big effect.
