That sounds like the same thing I hear among audiophiles. "Digital recording doesn't give you good 'compression dynamics'".
What they are really saying is that Digital recording doesn't change your sound as it's laid down. Non-digital will 'compress' sound as you hit the high end of the audio spectrum and make it sound 'flatter'. Personally, I've always felt you should go for the sound you want and hope the recording device can pick up exactly that sound. Don't rely on the recording device to compensate for something.
Same principle to digital video. Use it and make your statements through the acting, expressions, and other elements of the film. Don't worry about looking or sounding 'too real'.
If you're going to troll, do it with the right information in hand.
SaX is SuSE's XFree86 configuration utility (Sax2 for 4.x series). YaST is the installation utility.
And, as long as I'm posting, ALICE is SuSE's new answer to Red Hat's kickstart. You set 'er up, and use a bootdisk on your workstations and walk away while it installs. I'm just starting to experiment with that on our business machines, and it looks extremely promising. SuSE rocks for business.
I know it isn't 'official' yet, but I'm using the beta that comes with SuSE 7.0 and it is very impressive. It's fast, stable, and java actually seems to be working (at least in this version). It has awesome cookie management. You can set it to use any jdk you have loaded on your system. All in all, it's probably the best browser I've seen on Linux. Not to bad-mouth the others, but mozilla actually seems to have taken a couple of steps backwards lately (and that was what I was using for a time), and Netscape (oh boy, don't even get me started)....
Of course, if you're not a fan of KDE you may not like it, but the KDE2 beta is pretty nice too.

Thank god I have a life off-line to keep me attached to reality, or this place would have driven me completely insane by now. But for those that don't, I feel for you. Ah, but you see, that is what pisses some of us off so much. We have to browse at -1 to see all of the interesting comments and have to sort through a lot of garbage. Why? Because there is no real check on the moderation (yes, meta-mod, but that's just as big of a joke as moderation itself).
Just because someone doesn't post a view that you 100% agree with, that is absolutely no reason to mark him down. And it's happening way, way too often. Mark down stupid crap, but if it's a well worded, on-topic, and completely relevant post, don't mark it down just because you can't fucking handle someone having an opinion that differs from your own. That's just wrong! And I understand Siggy's point on that. Although I agree that he did take it a little too personally. I do have a wife and family and quite a bit of a life outside of slashdot. But I suppose some people don't.
This isn't so bizarre. Science fiction writers have been clinging to this concept for a long, long time. (At least, the concept of riding on mangnetic waves).
My personal favorite is Dan Simmons' vision of the Ousters with multi-kilometer wings that could 'catch the magnetic waves' and push them around in space. Like giant butterflies. Very cool. It's nice to see another of the science fiction authors' predictions coming true.

Go ahead moderators, take me down! Sooner or later, some changes need to take place around here. I used to be a 'kind' contributor. But I'm getting sick of every non-popular opinion being moderated down, no matter how well thought out, no matter how factual, no matter how much informatin is imparted. Some idiot will mark it as flame-bait because it isn't 'what the masses want'. PISS OFF!
A lot of distros are already including reiser in the base install (and installing onto Reiser file systems is an option at installation).
I think the speed and stability of Reiser is great, and I've been using it for a long time. And I think the inertia behind Reiser is probably going to push it into the kernel faster than the others. As far as I know, Red Hat, SuSE and Mandrake are already including it in their base distros. It probably won't be long before it will be 'standard' and be included in the 'stock' kernel. At least, I hope it won't be long.
I always enjoy Fridays, but this one will be a kick and a half. I may even have to take off work so that I can flame and troll slashdot (I have a job where a day off is pretty easy to justify, especially since I don't do it very often).
