Some time ago at school we pluged a DDR pad (those sold by Red Octane) in the computer (using the paralel port) and make some key bindings(using two programs that i dont remember rigth now), and we found that its really fun to play Quake2 (we hadn't quake3 yet) using the DDR pad to move and using a 3-button mouse to fire, strafe and jump (or course timing was a BIG problem, but its still fun) but of course it takes hours just to get used to the movement (once you got used ever circle-strafe its simple)
I think the point is that it doesn't make any difference what's on the CD. If it's a screwed up CD, then the drive should just refuse to read it.
I know it is not exactly the same but, if i gave you a cd that had an autorun.ini with exec=misc.exe (or something like that, i havent done that quite a time...) and misc.exe just screw up your machine (hard disk format, bios flashing, virtual memory pages pointing itselves, etc) the cd is not "screwed", just because my program was designed to do this...
There isnt a way to protect it, its just like viruses and trojans, you cannot protect a machine that run the that process as superuser, you can just check if is already known and stop it...
here in Mexico we dont consider ourselves a third world nation, we are a nation in development ways (something like that, really... , in spanish is "pais en vias de desarrollo", I dont rerally know if there is an english term for that one)
I dont really think that the problem with Linux here in Mexico is the introdution of Linux, most large universities here had some Linux subjets (only for computer science and informatics) and so. Here in my school (the university of Guadalajara, at the CUCEI) we are going to have an event called (free softway days (DSL in spanish)). Also in the work we are going to mount linux servers (I work for an school that Im not going to mention) in all the facilities. Here in Guadalajara you see at leats one Tux in every shoping mall (well considering that Guadalajara is called Mexican Sillicon Valley).
But one big problem here is education, while like the third part of high schooll graduates enters to a large universities, everybody else enters to a cheap university where (whea you go it) they teach how to use MS Windows and MS Office, and computer tech that came from that schools never learned what and IP is...
Most people here nows how to write a letter in word, how to avoid the password by pressing the escape key, and listen MP3's in winamp, also how to use the cheap app (that the whole enterprice) that some "$&#$&/() cheap coder wrote in COBOL some years ago, if you want to switch them, you have to have a solution for every need, that meand programs, capacitation, etc..
Well Im soory that my opinion is mostly University around, but its mainly because is my environment...
Wherever... my computer used to have a 50mb hard drive, a 386 procesor and now the only thing that remains in the box (from the original parts) is the floppy drive, so if i want to donate it, I have to install back DOS 5.0 because the computer was originally sold with DOS 5.0
Thats a nice statment... no where was that 5 1/4 drive again?
Well... the real problem are the guys who landed (and got stuck) in a U.S. airport without an American Visa, you may ask how, because many people (most form Mexico) that travel to another country dont care about geting a visa that they will only use twice for one hour or so , so they stayed in the airport in transit (TWOv).
The problem is that people without visa MUST stay in the airport, they arent alowed to exit the airport until their airplane departs.
Yes, Im seeing that on CNN, but if you think this deeply you found that maybe some terrorist groups (involved on Palestinan civil war) are just trying to make it look like the U.S. is firing... personaly I dont think that U.S. would counteratack an unknown enemy (or a know one wihout leting others see ho is)
...that computer related books need a mayor update freequently, unlike most books, their info contained can last a few years or less.
History books last forever since they talk about past and they only need to be more in the pass of time, geografy books can be used for centuries without a major update, math books need only to be updates in a very specialist research areas (yeah like the way to know the Nth number of pi!), and so on, but a computer related book tend to be almost completly obsolete in five or more years (with a few exceptions of cource, like computer science books (they are not the same thing))
So i thing that books that must be on libraries are algorythm and computer science books.
Yeah, they improve lots of programming related skills like reverse enginering and things like that, when the cracker becomes coder, this skills helps to improve their code by using anti-cheat techniques and making a better code, wich make better crackers, and then it helps on evolution...
Well, this sounds like good news for developing cross-plataform apps without a mayor porting-translating job, well this make me thing in some things and problems in matter of porting like:
-little bugs in the "base" plattaform tend to create huge bugs in the ported.
-ported code tends to be huger (for diferences in the system, usually file system and devices manages) and usually dont use the cool capabilities of the new system (like some object handling and so on).
-beta testing must be on diferent stages (base to base, base to ported, ported to bas, etc) and bugs that apear between only some stages could lead to a mayor update in both versions, making also little diferences that tend to enlarge and becoming two (or more) diferent versions than only a port.
Well I hope we developers find porting a bit easier with all this new stuff, now's time to make X the default graphic interface in all plataforms:)

God... where did I see those DOS 5.0 disks again?

nice... time to telnet cyberspace.org and play Nethack via GBA!

well thast my opinion
then well be seeing lots of blue t-shirts whit the legend General Protection Fault...
...yeah, but thats like 1/1000 of the total population of finland
So any microsoft programmer MUST know how to stop them... or use the obious solutions:
Disable the VBS suport
Filter messages with VBS attachments
Just use another mail handler
switch to Linux
But M$ policy is allways to make users edxpend more and more money on they products...

Also think in a device that deliver small quantities of caffeine to the veins each time you press enter. Ill be great for midnigth coding...
Well this is not new stuff, I remember that I saw some wireless controllers for snes (super fmicom) but i dont know if thay came to usa or not.

now think about drive your car with your genius netmouse (scroll buttons for gear changes) or your usb force feedback joystick...
