Exactly, Microsoft did something similar with its OS right? I am sure we all remember. Once there is the lock-in, its over.
People will just end up paying Oracle.
No offense, but can you provide me a with a link on this? Because a quick google only shows stories about how Oracle is now a hardware player since it acquired SUN.
I honestly wonder what Oracle is doing, was it really worth buying SUN strictly for its hardware side?
Maybe they don't care about the software engineers? Maybe they are lost with what to do with them??? Is Oracle completely blind?
Yet another professional Unix admin views it as anything but a joke.
Its the main reason I use a mac, it's a hell of alot more friendly with other more "orthodox" unix flavors than non-nix OSes. It provides the bridge to the different OSes I need to admin without the gnashing of teeth with tons of work arounds.
You may dislike it, but its still unix.... An extremely modified one, but still unix.
Not going to happen, its to much of a leap. Doing so would lock up the economy, almost no one could drive. And in more remote areas that would mean not go to work/go to malls/etc basically you would be a hermit.
hmm a world without cars... at least polution wouldn't be as bad in some areas:P
Parking where-ever you please and hoping a traffic cop doesn't pass by isn't a privilege.
Because YOU want to run around and break laws does not make CCTV evil, it just means your easier to catch. Freedom getting away with criminal behavior(no matter how small and insignificant the "crime")
Still, your violating laws... Just because you don't want to pay doesn't make this system any less useful.
I know it sucks to have to follow rules right?
No the point is this, "its bad for us and any alternative OS users, even if it is great for them."
Nothing intrinsically wrong with what they are doing.
Oh they compete technically, but its far from cut throat, and the markets each one appeals to is different.
Alot of what you are talking about is formality to keep lawsuits from other not so friendly competitors down.
Because, believe it or not, Google and Apple are "close" to one another. As close as two companies can be while still sorta competing.
The two companies share alot of the same board members to my understanding. And Brin, Page, and Jobs are not enemies.
Well, I admit I haven't worked with any of their desktop units.
But, I installed a non-Apple HDD and RAM into my wifes old powerbook. They seemed to work fine until the power cable wore away completely.
And I don't use apple peripherals for my Macbook, so that is not an issue either.
I think your problem here is that you cannot possibly be keeping these PCs long enough to fail... To even begin to compare your story with his, you would have to be owning 5(normal for a techy/small family) at a time for over 18 years.
I have to ask, who was the guy who sat down and decided how English should be spoken? And, do we speak the same English today that was spoken 500 or even 200 years ago.

Actually, the whole airport(including the televisions) here runs on RedHat.
... I think you are right on this one. I am really beginning to dislike Oracle, they make Microsoft and Apple look like saints.

Was about to ask the same thing myself, cannot remember ever seeing one...
The overlord who not only uses Unix, but uses it with style?
Apple only auto-updates the Safari plugin.
Oh I love the mental imagery, Dora the Explorer in 3d and right after that 3d Mickey Mouse Clubhouse :|
But, I a am in doubt that it is really news worthy. "Google adds new level to zoom" :|

Why not just bury and people become the fertilizer of the future? or soylent green can be a alternative :P
+1 This is exactly my point, if they were putting cameras in peoples homes it would be a completely different matter and worth the effort to fight.

Highly depends on the phone and the version of android it is running at the time.

What a waste of time and money

Yep, exactly... You can have the best product in the world, but if you cannot "sale" it to anyone, then what good is it?
