How is this spying? They are merely checking if the customer payed for the software, that's a very reasonable thing for a program to do. This is nothing like the spyware that checks your moves in the internet etc.

I don't understand this hate against the publisher. I would think they are simply protecting their software. They are in no way harming legitimate paying customers. Even when phoning home about a pirated copy there is no harm, it is the pirate who is harming the publisher.

I don't see how detecting a pirated copy is spying on a system. They should have the right to do that.

If you don't use pirated software why would you even care about this?

I have a similar problem but in this case it is because of spam mail. Some spammer sends spam and puts in the From: the address of some other victim. I have received several mails lately from Yahoo indicating that my email could not be delivered to several users that don't exist anymore, attached is a spam mail which I didn't send. I contacted yahoo but their support is awful.

How can one protect from this?

Then I read about the virus and tell them what to do but of course I wouldn't know if it will work (or why it didn't work) since I dont have an infected machine to try it. This has made me look like an idiot plus I'm here working all day while my friends enjoy a couple days of forced vacations while someone has time to fix their machines. Grrrr..

Why M.S. issued the security bulletin in July I don't know. But it makes no difference, the admin should have installed the pack when it was available not when M.S. explicitly said it was "Critical". Goes to show you can't wait to be told what to do, it's your job to know patch is available and determine wethere it is a good idea or not to install it.
