    It's not about trust.

    It's only about making sure your potential customers don't get a pop-up that even hints at the fact that your site may be insecure.

    The signing authorities that browsers are by default configured to "trust" are the ones that get used.

    Eeeek..wrong! Someone doesn't know how hardware works at all..

    The 64-bit registers are twice the size of their 32-bit brothers, or equvillently, there are twice as many 32-bit registers in a 64-bit CPU.

    Software will need to be recompiled, yes, but almost everything will likely benifit from having more registers, if from nothing else.

    The problem heres is likely NOT the HDs.

    Your string of "bad luck" indicates a problem with either woefully inadequate cooling (like choking the drive), or very dirty power. Check where you're mounting these drives, get some HD coolers, and invest in a good PSU. Are you using any molex splitters to get to the HDs? Splitters half the impedance, and some PSUs just can't handle that reliably.

    I'm personally running an Enermax 465W and the voltages have been very stable.. running a 250GB Maxtor drive.

    From what I've been told in my CPU architecture classes, the x86 is a CISC, but it's implemented in the hardware as RISC.

    If you like the awful way explorer manages files, you've never tried anything better.

    Try this.. I've been using a *commander since the days of MS-DOS 5. Once you go split-panel, you don't go back. Not to mention stuff like built-in ZIP, RAR, FTP (archives get treated as folders, FTP is treated as a drive), a Search that works MUCH better then explorer's, wildcard file selection, .. I'm gonna stop now.

    Did you actually read what you were replying to? Lets combine your statements (italic), with a little formatting, and the text you quoted (bold):

    I am somewhat irked by the constant modding up to +5 of the highly inacurrate statement to which I replied which erroneously advances the notions:

    1) That the script was written by Adams : "Is there some stuff in the script that wasn't written by Douglas Adams himself? Definitely."

    2) and that everything in the movie had his approval: "Did they likely cut out stuff Adams would have kept? Probably. Did they put back in stuff that Adams had cut? Definitely."

    It's a lie.

    So will you stop freaking out already? The script was "descended" from one written by Adams.. and since he's dead, it's as good of one as we're going to get.

    Firefox .xpi files are really .zip files. They contain .jar files, which contain the "source code".. the .xul and .js files.

    It isn't open source however, it's distributed under a proprietary license..

    Anything and Everything HAS THE POTENTIAL to be psychologically damaging.

    Stuffed Pink Bunnies, for example, can be psychologically damaging to a kid, if he watches as his favorite bunny's head is ripped off.

    Does that mean we should restrict the sale of stuffed animals?

    Life in a moderm society not only has the potential to be psychologically damaging, it's psychologically damaging for sure. Let's ban being alive too!

    You can always make your own DVDs from stuff you download, but it just isn't worth the pain. Get a player that's capable of playing downloaded formats and forget it.

    Burning: The only problem I ever had was burning some DVDR images using Nero. I dont know why it didnt work. Got to 99.9% done and never finished. The problem eventually fixed itself.

    I've had this problem with Nero, and only with Nero, on my BenQ DVD-R drive. It would eventually pop up a "Failure to close disk". I guess it's time to stop recommending Nero to people, I don't feel like explaining to them why their burn failed. What other CD/DVD burning software out there doesn't suck in the UI department?

    When I can't do my job because the customer chose to install seven pirate copies of XP Pro, and I can't install a service pack which I know will solve all of their problems, what exactly am I supposed to do?

    You're supposed to google for a product key changer, and change their product key to a new, randomly generated one, that's not banned. Then you install the service pack.

    And later, if I'm accused of trying to steal a client's money by selling them seven legit copies of XP in place of their seven pirate copies (true story!), exactly how am I supposed to support them?

    You are not the morality police. They dont want to pay for "something they already have".

    There are enough honest customers out there with broken yet supportable installations to keep me in business.

    Funny.. I haven't seen a legit XP install in a long time. I fix systems on the side to help pay the tuition bills, and I will gladly take those customers you turn away.

    Yes, using XBMC.

    Assuming the DivX/XviD source material is around 624 x 352, it is upsampled and filtered to perfection by the xbox, then output at 1920x1080 to my 57" Toshiba HDTV. Plus, you can tweak the zoom and pixel ratio in the menus to make it fit your screen, no matter what the aspect ratio.

    I've played Enter the Matrix in 1080i, and the only reason it even runs in 1080i is obviously because the graphics are very, very simple. I think the XBox is too underpowered for 3D 1920x1080 rendering.

    On the other hand, I watch xvid on my xbox in 1920x1080 and it looks _amazing_.

    Put together and open source an implementation of ATRAC. If they did that, there would immediately be tons of proprietary and non-proprietary implementations of ATRAC for every platform.

    FLAC = Lossless Archival
    AAC = Promice of an even better sound quality

    ATRAC is over 10 years old. It's outdated. It fulfills no need. Sony needs to cut their losses, and let the format die.

    Of course the paper feed mechanism will start feeding 2-3 sheets at once after a year or so, but there is a special paste you apply on the cork "rub pads" to fix it.

    Do you have more information on this magical paste?

    I have an old HP I've pretty much given up on because of this problem.. using an Epson 880 now, remanufactured carts are about $1.

    I have even fonder memories of going to an engineering school were for some reason they were trying hard to convince women to go into engineering. A large portion of the sholarships had the requirement to be a women to be eligible.

    Taking an Engineering degree here (Computer and Electrical)

    Not only do you have a be a woman to get a scholarship, you must also be aboriginal and you must be studying either religion or feminism...

    I got so angry when looking at the list of bursaries I threw it in the garbage.

    That's the shadiest website ever. They claim that when you buy a "signal booster" from them for 20 pounds they will give you a free phone. The link at the bottom for the "How does it work?" is broken. Not to mention that it's hosted on angelfire/lycos.
