I don't know, I never had warning, and there's one person who I would kill to have videos and pictures of.

Especially videos, there's a huge difference between seeing someone moving and hearing their voice and a still picture. I can't even remember the voice now. I would do anything.

  3. Drawings? on Preserving Memories of a Loved One? · · Score: 1

I think there's something special about drawing, even if you're terrible at it. If you sit down and really look at someone, and try to copy every feature of their face exactly (not circles for eyes and a triangle for a nose, but really look and try and draw what you see and forget what it comes out like.) I think that drawing someone is different to taking a picture, I think you really see them when you do it.

I remember drawing my grandmother a few years before she died, she posed for me but she kept falling asleep and I said "granny!" and she'd apologize and put her head up again. Now when I see that drawing I see details that I never managed to draw, I go right back to the moment I was drawing her.

I remember watching a video about a man with cancer and his wife. Randy Pausch of "The Last Lecture". They said they just had to enjoy their time together (A matter of months) they tried not to think about it and every time it would come into her mind she would say this mantra of "Not helpful" and just try to be happy.

Anyway my heart goes out to you and my thoughts are with you, I can't imagine the pain you must be feeling.

I bet if you're looking for something like car insurance or Spanish lessons in your area and you see an ad for it you click on it. A lot of people think they ignore ads, but they only ignore the ads that they're not within the target audience for.

It's the same with television, everyone says they don't pay attention to the ads, but if ads didn't work they wouldn't exist.

    Chill!
It won't affect you at all! It's only for people who buy computers with Ubuntu on them and it can be easily turned off in the command line and it's not a secret!

    Absolutely! Describe! Don't prescribe!

I can't remember which Stephen Pinker book it was, but in one they analyzed a recording of a young black American man (can't remember where he was from) speaking and found his grammar to be perfectly consistent with the rules of his own dialect. A dialect which, in many instances, is superior to "standard English" in that it allows one to be more specific with what they're saying while using less words.
I'm sorry I can't remember which book, but I'd highly recommend any of them.
