Nothing says "We are a Windows Company" than Balmer trying to do anything. WHEN is the board going to fire his ass? Do they not understand, he has been what is wrong with Microsoft for a very long time, and they have only survived in spite of him?
I've been saying that Microsoft is done as a major player for a long time, because they are a "Windows" company. Now that the world is Unix/Linux world they are screwed if they continue down this path.
If it doesn't exist in three places, in two formats, one offsite... it doesn't exist
Nothing like explaining this to someone who's house just burned down and all their digital photographs for the last 20 years are gone. Or a business that had all their computers and their safe stolen. Or flooding, tornado, hurricane, earthquake, airplane smashing into a building or....
How much is your data worth. It is that simple. How much can you afford to lose if you lose everything? I make my clients put a dollar value on their data, write it down and look at it everyday. It forces them to think about it.
There are those things. But you never stopped long enough to ask yourself, does the Federal Government need to have these things. We didn't have federal firefighters for a hundred years, and suddenly we need them, why? Same with FBI. Eliminate much of the "Federal crimes", only having to deal with crimes crossing state lines (coordination) and actual crimes against country (i.e. Treason), and we don't need much a federal police force.
The problem with the Federal use of force, is that it is insatiable, and furthest removed from the people. It is also quite hard to move to avoid draconian federal laws, while it is much easier to move to avoid state and local draconian laws. But then again, most socialists are for a very strong central government, even as they tend towards tyranny, while complaining about tyranny of their strong central government.
If the ACA was a roaring success, would you give all the credit to the (R)s ? I rather doubt you'd give any credit to the Heritage Foundation or the (R)s, this is just you being hypocritical party douchebag. You and your (R) counterparts are the very reason we're so screwed.
Wow, name calling without citing a single fact. Impressive, but typically liberal retort. It is as if name calling wins discussions. Does that really work in your circles?
I covered your whine in the second paragraph. Immoral is such a subjective term, Creating a new tax and forcing people to choose between higher costs or cutting employee's hours is immoral.
Well, to be honest, this is the making of (D) politics and policies. The world doesn't work like those that live in ivory towers believe. While trying to help th "little guy" by passing things like ObamaCare, have dramatically changed how the little guy is employed. No longer able to find full time work (thanks Reid/Pelosi) because employers cut back "full time" employees to part time, and from 40 Hours to 25 hours a week to avoid increases in costs due to ObamaCare.
Then all the liberals start whining about how "unfair" it is that employers try to save their businesses by not incurring new taxes (aka ObamaCare). Well who didn't see this coming? Well, Reid and Pelosi didn't. Probably, because they didn't read the bill until after it was passed. And that is what you get when you don't read something before you vote on it.
So, if you want to blame anyone, blame those that tried, and failed, to fix a problem by making it worse than it was before. Oh, and delay the implementation of ObamaCare until after the next election. If you voted for these clowns, you're getting the idocracy you so deserve.
You are under the mistaken impression the government stops fraud, while at the very same time, saying that it didn't stop fraud. Tell me again how that works?
Government doesn't stop crimes by regulations, it just makes the market less efficient.
And people like you are under the impression that government involvement is any better than no government involvement. Enron Happened. Housing Market Happened. Multiple other scams have happened, all under the watchful eye of Government. Yet I don't see you blaming government for their lack of oversight. I wonder why that is.
And if you think big government is okay, then you're probably fine with big government spying on people, targeting people by the NSA, IRS etc, while shirking any responsibility by saying "I know nothing!" (/Sgt Schultz voice) or "I plead the fifth".
You see, how easy it is to poke fun at people who are idiots.
Nobody wants "corrupt, cheating, and outright stealing" except the robber barons, which include both (R) and (D) people alike (see Harry Reid, Diane Feinstein etc for example). Some people just prefer the (D) over the (R) brand, but are still idiots thinking they are any different in any meaningful way.
Let me ask you it this way, don't you try to avoid government red tape when you do business? Oh wait, you probably aren't in business, but on someone else's payroll.
Judge should have said, sex = sexual conduct = contact with sexual organs(defining all relevant parts) for the purposes of either procreation and/or pleasure.
All of what you said may be true, but that does not collecting data on Americans, if there is no association made between a phone call and a person. Or an email and a person. They made no such connection per se.
He didn't collect data on Americans. He collected data on phones and phone numbers, email and email addresses. And while this can be construed as to being the same thing, it is not, at least technically.
Do I believe it to be a lie? Of course it was a deliberate misleading of congress, that makes it a lie in my book. However, from a "legal" point of view, it is not a lie to deliberately mislead while being technically accurate.
I like all those things you mention, however, short of anything having the Government as a middle man skimming 1/3 to 1/2 off the top, without ever intending to be efficient, makes me believe that Government is probably the worst possible choice for providing ANY service.
And police, fire, and most roads are local issues, not federal. Army is the only obligatory item for the federal government. Hospitals are not either local, state or federal in nature.
Police and Fire should be paid for via local property taxes (not income), roads should be paid for via fuel and vehicle taxes, and the army should be paid for via excise taxes and tribute when we bail other countries out of their own messes. Hospitals should be paid for by those people who want them in their communities. Sorry, not all communities can afford hospitals. HOWEVER, if we, as a society, want to fund hospitals communally, we ought to do so with the least amount of government involvement possible, via grants and charitable organizations.
It doesn't need to be complicated. I know that this goes against the normal socialist agenda of modern leftists, however when you are for big government, you can't complain about big government being inefficient, heartless and messy.
Psst, blaming Bush (Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy..) isn't going to help here. WHAT is true, and Obamadrones forget, is that the Big O promised to END such things, in order to get elected. THIS should fucking outrage all the good little progressives out there, rather than having them say "Bush did it too". In fact, this is exactly how I know someone is a true progressive or someone voting (D) because they don't have a brain.
So when is James Clapper going to be charged with contempt of congress for telling them that the NSA isn't spying on millions of Americans?
Never. He parsed is words in such a way that he was deliberately misleading while telling the absolute truth. They weren't spying on Americans, they were spying on Phones. While we may think the two are linked and related, they are not in HIS view of the world, and he is correct in his viewpoint.
Remember when we all laughed at "It depends on what the meaning of the words 'is' is." - Bill Clinton? Funny huh?
Or how about "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky." --President Bill Clinton ?
Not laughing now are you? Careful parsing of words is a craft for the highest level political operatives, and we laugh at the playful use of words. The problem is that we are not taking them seriously enough. Clinton did not have "sexual relations" (intercourse) with Ms Lewinsky, she gave him a blowjob. There is a difference in technicalities, the phrase was crafted in such a way that it was not a "lie", but rather a carefully crafted verbal version of prestidigitation. What you heard is not what was meant.
I have (no kidding) a sign above my desk, saying "I know you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant."
The NSA only participates in activities governed by Congress, President and the Courts. If you don't like the NSA, then stop voting for the Congress (R congress, D Senate), the President (D) and those that appointed the Supreme Court.
95% of the sheeple keep voting the same way, expecting things to change. The more they change, the more they stay the same (only worse). Your best chance at change is either revolutionary changes to how you vote, or revolution.
My recent conversations with certain political types, they believed the Obama is the Messiah hype. So, one nation, under Obama? And Obama is sure acting like that, by violating the law* that colloquially bears his name to extend deadlines by a year, and conveniently pushed back beyond the next election.
Color me not surprised.
*A law so desperately needed that we had to vote for it to see what was needed, because it couldn't wait another second.
We stopped being "home of the free" when people started feeling okay about telling other people how to live via legislature and court cases, all in the name of the "greater good". Both (R) and (D) are equally culpable in this progressive slide towards totalitarianism. Very few are standing for liberty, and are typically branded by unflattering terms like "Anarchists" designed to illicit emotional responses.
Take a long look at Obama, and those that support(ed) him. Take a long look at GWB, and those that supported him. You're talking 97% of the US population who have supported the Patriot Act / ObamaCare nanny state.
"Please enslave me, just as long as you pretend to care about me"
