Yeah, because the (D) can do no wrong, and the (R) can do no right. Here's a summary of counter points ...

    1) Grandma's plug is being decided Obamacare Death Panels due to lack of unlimited government funding to keep 85 year olds alive.
    2) Poor don't pay taxes, therefore all tax cuts come from the "rich".Can't give tax breaks to those who don't pay any.
    3) And the Government makes 10 times what Big Oil does, off Big Oil. And I suggest you don't drive your car ever again. Ride your bike, in the snow, uphill both ways.
    4) It was (D) and (R) that ruined the country. Collaborative Effort my friend.
    5) That is entirely possible. After the Obamacare debacle the (D) should lose the senate. The problem is that it will be (R) that replaces them. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
    6) MAFIAA is one of the (D) party sponsors. It is Hollywood, who are hardly big sponsors of the (R) party.

The solution is not (D) or (R) but yourself. If we only took responsibility for ourselves, we would need a whole lot less governance. People who want more government usually don't want to be responsible for themselves and want big brother or momma' s teet .

It was to be used for conceptual purposes not as "fact".

The problem with Newt is that he is probably too smart to win the (R) primaries. He'll come across as pompous and arrogant, because he knows he's smarter than ... Giuliani and Palin. In fact, I know way too many leftwingers who think he IS stupid because he is an (R).

I personally like the guy's intelligence and breadth of knowledge on all sorts of issues. I don't agree with him much, but it is refreshing when comparing to the likes of Palin, Reid and Pilosi who just look like hacks. But again, that is the very reason he's unelectable.

At this point, if I were at Google, I'd lay it out exactly this way. "We need a unified voice/video/email/chat/sms/sip product. Now!" They have the pieces, they just need to tie it all together nice and pretty. If they did that, Skype would cease to exist in short order. Because Microsoft is not nimble enough.

This has been my position for a few years now. Linux's success can be partially put on the shoulders of Microsoft. To mangle a Voltaire quote ""If Linux did not exist, it would be necessary to invent it". Linux was and is the best foil against Microsoft. Today, it is running in thousands of places where Windows and Microsoft Products aren't nor could be. Microsoft is a Windows company (I've said it before), they have one product that makes them money, and that is Microsoft Windows / Office ecosystem. Everything they do, is built around Windows.

The web, (and Google, Apple) are going to slowly eat away at the desktop marketshare of Windows in such a way that most people will miss it. It is already happening. We have Laptops and Android/iPhones that do much of what we need done day to day. And with iPad and Android tablets, they are going to further eat into desktop market.

This is why I think that Skype is going to die a slow painful death, perhaps everywhere but on Windows. It will become a Windows only product, and die on the dying market. Don't get me wrong, windows will be around for a long long time. But its influence is diminishing, but will never go away.

And all of that is made possible by Microsoft Domination in the 90s that gave rise to a little known hobby OS created by a kid in Finland. Because it was free.

Was gonna mod you up, but instead, it hit me. The problem isn't the process, it is where the process is engaged. And I think the Article and subsequent posts clearly indicate there is a time and place for process, but not everything needs to be stuck in a process.

In your case, you and your team were building tools for your own use and were doing it the quick and agile way. Dirty code that got stuff done quickly. You bypassed the systemic processes that were in place because they just got in the way.

The successful code base often starts out as UGLY spaghetti code, but eventually needs to be cleaned up.

What needs happen is your skunkworks program should be autonomous from the normal process. Only when something you've created gets noticed does it move from the skunkworks over to the normal development channel. To accomplish this, you have to be willing to hand off your code to someone who is, more than likely, going to "ruin" it by running it through the process of getting it clean and neat.

This way, you can still build fast efficient code that is messy and ugly, and the managment can get code that is functional, and everyone can work towards getting it all nice and pretty by process. Everyone wins.

Just a few days ago, on talking about "wars" and casualties and such, some guy posted his anti GWB death stats in Iraq. Completely ignoring the fact that since "hostilities" have ended, the death count has slowing been dwindling. But when I posted that the Afghanistan war has not only been increasing, but rather dramatically under Obama it was modded "Troll".

My point was that the liberal thought wasn't standing on its own. If deaths (simplistic point of the poster) are a measure of success or failure, then Iraq was successful under GWB (getting smaller) while Afghanistan is moving to failure under Obama.

I can point to case after case of leftwingers not able to apply their own standards of expectations upon themselves as they do rightwingers (who have a completely different set of problems), and they don't like people pointing to it. Say something stupid and the left wing will nail ya for it relentlessly (Palin), but if you're Harry Reid and you say something even more stupid (US doesn't have GPS comment) and .. meh or they will make endless excuses.

Don't get me wrong, the (R) side of things isn't much better. We all know their foibles because the Leftwing Press and the Daily Show make note of every single one. I just wish they would do the same thing to Nancy and Harry that they do to Sarah and Rush. Especially since Nancy and Harry are in positions of power, while Sarah and Rush are not.
