NCLB is a Federal program designed by Federal Employees to make work for OTHER Federal Employees, and has NOTHING to do with Children being left behind or not.

Fact is, no matter how you structure something, someone ALWAYS gets "left behind". Sometimes the best thing we can do for someone is to allow them to fail, all by themselves. When you prevent failure, you never gain excellence.

The same brain dead "process model" is in our education system, where all the top level people can see is how the process is functioning, and don't care about the results. NCLB is a process model, even though the it claims to be after "results". The top people see the failures of NCLB as a problem with the process and will tweak it until they get the result they want, which will never happen, because it is impossible. The very premise that "no child" will be left behind will drain all resources exponentially on the few that are being left behind.

NCLB is part of what is wrong with our thinking. We think that if we tweak the process we can effectively change the result. This means RESULTS don't matter, only the process matters. And if you look at all the progressive programs out there, it is almost always about process and hardly ever measures the results (or they become secondary).

You can see this in statements like "The system worked" when a plane was nearly blown up by underwear laced with explosives failed to detonate properly. When all you can see is process, and not the result, then you end up with security theater we call "homeland security", where there is no creativity allowed and people are not allowed to think.

It is that bad, not necessarily because of translation problems, but rather from isolating verses from the context, not knowing the culture of the times, and ignorance of what the REST of the Hebrew Scriptures said.

But that would mean giving up all sorts of things Christians have become accustomed to (Christmas Ham Dinner).

Of course, if you don't believe the Scriptures, then it doesn't matter at all what you choose to keep or don't keep. Just make it up as you go, and end up looking like the hypocrites that they (Christians) are.

Take for instance, Christmas. I've often pointed out the similarity of "Christmas" celebrations and what is found in Jeremiah 10. The answer I get is that they aren't bowing down and worshiping trees. I ask them what a dead evergreen tree has to do with Jesus and they look at me like a deer caught in a headlight. They really don't know. It is just "tradition".

I don't blame people for thinking that most Christians are hypocrites. Because they are. Christ called those kind of people Vipers and Dogs.

And you're right, we should be doing the RIGHT thing because it is the RIGHT thing to do. But doing the RIGHT thing is not often easy, and often is chided as being "legalistic". Now if you're saying that the culture of white men is our culture, then you're also saying that that culture is derived in part from the Judeo Christian religious influences.

And if you're saying that, then you're saying there is no such thing as "Separation" of church and state, since the state is beholden to the cultural influences of Judeo Christian religious experiences.

I would say that hate speech should be considered any speech that advocates the attack on another person's rights based on a more generalized idea such as their race, sexual orientation, etc.

What about economic status? Why not?

So, saying that you don't want illegal Mexican immigrants into the country wouldn't be considered hate speech, as it doesn't interfere with their rights; they don't have the right to enter our country illegally.

They don't? Says who? There are 30 million of them here now. And in places like San Fransisco, they are a protected class, like homosexuals are.

But saying that you want all Mexican's out of the country regardless of their citizenship because "they" stole your job, then yes, that would be hate speech.

Who is saying all Mexicans should leave the country? Of course, some people have equated "undocumented workers" as being "all Mexicans" for political reasons, if not explicitly, it is implied. So even refining your statement to be "Illegal Aliens" is considered "hate speech" because "illegal aliens" is code for "all Mexicans".

And the moment you outlaw certain words, we change other words to take the place of the now missing / forbidden words.

Take the word "Retarded", which used to be a perfectly acceptable word to describe someone who was less intelligent than average. Now that word is nearly forbidden, because of people using it in a negative way. Now we have substituted "Special" in place, trying to make people feel better about calling them "retarded". Except now, even that term is starting to gain a negative quality. "Aren't you 'special'?"

The fact is, communication is wrought with all sorts of subjective interpretations and meanings and subtleties that shift as words evolve in meaning to route around societal censorship.

I'm a libertarian, and so I don't find ANY speech all that offensive. Worst case scenario is that we find out what people think plainly. I'd much rather have the KKK marching down the street (obvious who/where they are) than hiding in back rooms and secretly planning their next cross burning.

If you're offended by the presence of the KKK, you probably should get some help. A bunch of wackos shouting slogans of hate don't offend me. The best thing we can do is make fun of them, laugh at them, tease them, and show how ridiculous they are.

I'd much rather have all speech open where I can see it, and react accordingly than stick my head in the sand and pretend it doesn't exist for the sake of my sensibilities.

I want mail delivered 7 days a week, and I want to be able to go to DMV on Sunday. I want government to function just the same as on the other five days a week, without exception because after all, the basis for "weekends" is the concept of Sabbath.

Secularly there is no reason to have those two be not like the other five, and by assigning them to the Religious sabbath of Christians and Jews is just a holdover from those belief systems.

And I don't see any secular value to having two days of rest, or any "time off". Plenty of people work seven days a week and show no harm in it.

As for convenience of organizing time off in order to minimize disruptions, that is simply a bogus response. You're assuming there needs to be any "disruption" in service, which is exactly why I propose making all Government employees work seven days a week, no disruptions at all, unlike right now, where there is a definitive disruption in service every week.

I don't see why we should expect government employees demand two days off a week, since that is expressly a hold over from religious attitudes. You know, separation of Church and State should be complete and total, or it is meaningless.
