If you've read Idoru, you know what I'm talking about. With the advents of VPN encryption, it becomes more possible everyday. A group of servers hosted by people with varying degrees of connections, with their own internal DNS structure and ACL. Distribute the computing power among those servers and there you go. Add on IPv6 when it gets standardized and you don't have to worry about running out of IP addresses when everyone has a dedicated connection. And You get a transport that's meant to handle the kind of information that was passing through the Hak Nam in Idoru. Oh yeah and did I mention really strong encryption?

I just met with one of my business partners last night to sign a form that had to be snailmailed to them to change ownership of one of my domains. They also charge a 26 dollar proccessing fee to do so. So even if someone somehow got my password for my joker.com forms, they couldn't change ownership fully. I really like these guys and I've already registered 6 domains with them.

    From the DMCA:
<i>Section 1201(a)(2) of the Copyright Act, part of the DMCA, provides that:

"(A) is primarily designed or produced for the purpose of circumventing a technological measure that effectively controls access to a work protected under [the Copyright Act];</i>

According to this DVD drives violate the DMCS because he states that the drives are what are used to read information from the drives.

It can't be this obvious can it? He makes no mention anywhere of the xing player from which the key was obtained. Is he really this shortsighted? I cannot for the life of me reconsile his argument in my mind. I completely understood why he allowed the initial injunction but this just seems completly ridiculous. Do the drive manufacturers pay for the license or the software? If the drive manufacturers are not responsible for any CSS licensing, then aren't they in of fact considered in violation of the act?

I don't want the overhead of graphics to waste server resources damnit. If companies would wuit being cheap and hire people who KNOW something about being a real administrator and not someone who can point and click thier way around an interface, we would have inherently better admins. This is my only big gripe against microsoft. I'm not a big fan of the product line but my biggest issue is that they have forced a generation of clueless administrators who can ONLY point to a an icon and have no idea how to go beyond that.

I know some MCSE's who can script and manage the hell out of an NT server. My director is one of them but he is an exception among the masses. The windows gui is not condusive for remote management and I sure as hell wouldn't WANT to try and pipe those graphics over a dialin connection to the office just to fix some issue. Linuxconf has a great ascii based version for consoles and it happens to rock. I know that there are web based versions of several of the microsoft admin tools but there is still the overhead of loading the graphics via browser. I want to get the job d0one and get it done fast. To me that means editing a textfile real fast and restarting a service.

Moderators: please don't moderate this up because it's anti microsoft. My points could apply to any OS that forces a graphical administration and lacks in any form of truly remote management.

I noticed that they said linuxconf was unweildly ( my word) for them. I would suggest webmin over linuxconf in most situations anyways. With support for ssl and being accessable by web browser ( i know linuxconf is as well) it makes remote admin a charm.

That leads to my second point. I've never worked with novell but why run a gui on a server? I still can't get past this. The key to *nix in general that I find to be most appealing is true remote admin capabilities. Do it all over ssh and there's the secure connection you need. Is remote MMC encrypted? I ask because I haven't had a chance to play with it.
It just seems to me that a gui is a bottleneck in a server.
