  1. Re:Credit cards aren't the way to verify anything on Australia - Censorship Overload · · Score: 2

that's a funny ad but it's odd that australia would do something like this in regards to the internet. Didn't they have a topless hardware store there at one point?
On another note, I cannot for the life of me see how they can regulate this unless they do like singapore ( i believe ) and put government control on all pipes in and out as well as set regulations to the ISP's. If that is the case aren't they going to loose the tech sector (do they have one?) to such restraints?

Honestly? Charging for CAL's for web based traffic is just insane. If i read the article right that is. One company I worked for in the past hated per connection licenses on HPUX. Especially when a certain UNIDATA product would create a new tty for each process it ran. We had plenty of licenses for the users we had but the app was taking up the connections. People dont want to pay for connection fees for thier server products. Maybe I'm spoiled after running bsd/linux for so long ;)

Now the rub on THAT whole idea is:
Will we have figured a way around population growth by that point in time? There IS something to be said for people dying by natural means. If things were to continue at that rate we would over poplate our galaxy. Of course I spose some people will still die in stupid ways...drunk driving/flying and the like. I don't know that I would WANT to live that long honestly. Of course I have severe moral issues with life extension in the first place. And futurist technology as a whole. That's for me to work out though. =)

My suggestion is possible use names that represent possibly room numbers, rack locations or possibly the purpose of the server. The racklocation/room number suggestion actually works best because you have a visual to go along with it. We use names like es1 and es2 for our exchange servers (bleh) and nts1,nts2 and so on for our nt servers (bleh bleh) and sql7 ( GAG! ) for a sql server. Just a suggestion. Of course we don't have nay official naming conventions here and isnce I'm the network admin I can name the beerstards what ever the hell I want ;)

    Horde/Imp

These guys are great for webmail, calendering and contact management.
A good forum type app would be Sporum. They are all freely distributable and only require IMAP (not a problem on an Intranet),mysql and perl. Twig uses php as well. All of these are fairly easy to set up (especially with php as a DSO in apache). I've set up all 3 on our intranet as evaluating a few options. They are all easily customizable. Any combination of these with a couple of hacks and snips here and there and you have your own web based groupware. =)

I'm going to add my opinion a bit late since I just noticed this article.
I notice an increasing trend with people to belittle and put down anything with the christian name on it. This is really the only religion with which this happens. Whenever something is brought up with a religious slant it always inflames toward putting down christianity. I find this hard to deal with since my background is that I almost became a youth minister. I jsut find it odd that people associate religion with christianity first and foremost. This is really odd since biblical christianity wanted nothing to do with religion and more with relationships. Jsut my poorly written frustrated 2 cents.
