It does not work like that.
One claim has inherently negative connotations, while the other has neutral or positive connotations. Let me demonstrate.

A: There is no evidence that Coca-Cola causes absence of cancer.
B: There is no evidence that Coca-Cola doesn't cause absence of cancer.

Now, one of these two claims would correctly be labeled as FUD (B), while the other might be labeled as an excuse at worst and being cautious with serious accusations at best (A).

    Also...

    A =/= -C and B =/= D {while D == -(-C)} doesn't mean that A==B, nor are -C and -(-C) equal.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carmack

As reported in David Kushner's Masters of Doom, "when Carmack was 14, he broke into a school to steal Apple II computers, was arrested, and sent for psychiatric evaluation (the report mentions "no empathy for other human beings"). Carmack was then sentenced to a year in a juvenile home.

Carmack is a well-known advocate of open source software, and has repeatedly voiced his opposition to software patents, which he equates to "mugging someone".

Carmack released the source code for Wolfenstein 3D in 1995 and the Doom source code in 1997. When the source code to Quake was leaked and circulated among the Quake community underground in 1996, a programmer unaffiliated with id Software used it to port Quake to Linux, and subsequently sent the patches to Carmack. Instead of pursuing legal action, id Software, at Carmack's behest, used the patches as the foundation for a company-sanctioned Linux port. id Software has since publicly released the source code to Quake, Quake 2 and most recently Quake 3, all under the GNU General Public License (GPL). The Doom source code was also re-released under the GPL in 1999.

The id Tech 4 ( Doom 3 Engine ) will also be open source. At QuakeCon 2007, Carmack said to LinuxGames: "I mean I won't commit to a date, but the Doom 3 stuff will be open source."

How about investing more into proper trained cops? How about better education?

Cops receiving official training as computer forensics are no longer simple beat cops - they are computer forensics experts and they should be treated and paid as such.
So, besides their police training they would probably require something equivalent to a BA/BS.

And even if there was enough time and money to educate and pay them later - system needs its beat cops too. Not just highly trained computer forensics.

What they would like to have is a "breathalyser-style tool for computers that could instantly flag up illegal activity on any PC it's attached to".
Which is delusional, even when you limit it to "a simple tool to preview on site and identify there's that one email [they] are looking for [so they] can then use that and interview the person now, rather then waiting six to 12 months for the evidence to come back" in cases such as "credit card fraud or selling stolen goods online".

On the other hand - in most countries it is illegal to make a backup copy of the CD/DVD you bought legally. Or download one from the internet without buying it again.

So not only must this magical tool be able to recognize any and all illegal media (from downloaded music to drawings depicting sex with minors) - it must also have instant access to, and understanding of every single law in the land.
Now, unless they manage somehow to create an actual AI (even a limited one that would only comprehend matters of law) - I don't see this happening.

On a positive(?) side, if they ever do create something like that, most crimes would not need an actual trial.
Just have the police officer plug in the connector to the computer, have it read out the sentence, and escort the "criminal" to the jail.
If that ever happens I strongly suggest investing into cement factories, lower and medium quality steel and rough textiles cause there will be a serious lack of prison space and uniforms.

Like when you want to shoot the weapon, change weapon or tool, reload, use inventory/menu or interact with the surrounding without yelling...
You know... All that stuff that makes us the cool top of the food chain.

Plus, they come of as trying to hard to just control the "beast. The painting demo looks like something painted using only your left foot while hanging upside down.

Come on! Couldn't they have found another physically active girl to do that while he talks?
And the orange guy just looks like a prick you would like to introduce to the bottom of your shoe.

Note also that even in the commercial (featuring yet nonexistent games/entertainment/communication software) all interaction is limited to very crude body gestures for moving a rag-doll on the screen, activation of very specific predetermined switches through very predetermined gestures (hitting the buzzer or changing the tire).
