The fact that the license would make it easier to enhance future versions of Services for Unix was a deciding factor.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if Services for Unix remains a half-assed endeavour...

I realized that the world where Zion lives isn't real as soon as Agent Smith downloaded himself to it at the beginning.

Which means that the entire war between the men and the machines, the humans as batteries stuff, *all* the backstory set up in the first movie, may be fake. All of it. There may be another real story we're going to find out in the last one.

Good point. Reminds me of The Thirteenth Floor. A Computer Scientist creates a virtual world (into which he can download himself) only to find out in the end that the world he lives in is virtual as well.

Sure, But did it really need to (seemingly) last for 15 long minutes? Our whole group of guys that went were just sitting there for what appeared to be a neverending eternity, wishing they would get on with the rest of the movie -- despite all of the wild-monkey-love that was going on right in front of us.

I thought it was waaaaay too long. But don't worry: I'm sure that the Director's Cut DVD will add about five more minutes to the scene.

My guess is that you were already running Linux. I never implied that a project like WineX isn't worthwhile. It definately has merit - to give Linux users the ability to play Windows games within their Linux environment; NOT to convince current Windows users that they should be running Linux.

    BZZZzzzT!

You need to figure out what your goal is. Is your ultimate goal to have more games for linux developed (noble), or to convert Windows gamers to linux so that they can play their Windows games under a foreign environment which could result in bugs, crashes, and frustration (stupid)?

If you want to convert Windows users, give them something they DON'T have; not a half-baked concoction of something they ALREADY have.

Again, ask yourself "What is my ultimate goal?" Make sure you know what you would like to accomplish by porting Windows games to linux. If it is to convert the masses, you've got it all wrong.

Keep in mind that we are only using the output of the Cue Cat. No one is tampering with the physical device OR the protocol. Everything is left intact. Only the OUTPUT is used. That, my friend, is fair game. As far as Digital Convergence is concerned, their device works as it should. It has not been manipulated in any way. Even the software has not been tampered with. It merely is not used. They may not like it, but they can't MAKE anyone use their software. The bottom line? Neither the hardware or the software is being tampered with, destroyed, or even improperly used. The software and the hardware are entirely two seperate entities. Sure they were designed to be used in conjunction with one another, but if you opt not to use the bundled software, the hardware is still doing its job as originally intended.

  20. Stupid Graph on Abandonware And Copyright Laws · · Score: 2

Overall it was a well done article, providing insight into both views. However, my only gripe is the bit of propoganda in the form of the bar graph depicting the billions of dollars lost due to software piracy. First of all, that bit of information has no bearing whatsoever on the topic at hand, and second, those numbers are greatly exaggerated. For example, I would bet that the majority of people who posess a pirated copy of Adobe Photoshop would be unwilling to fork out the money to actually purchase the program. They would find a much cheaper software solution that would meet their needs. The numbers presented by the graph are grossly bloated. (Like many of programs and prices that the manufacturers offer consumers.)
