Goodness knows we can't have googlebots archiving all of those top-secret/confidential web pages at the whitehouse. I guess we'll just have to live with the top-secret info that has already been archived.
What's that? Oh, all of the real top-secret stuff is at the NSA website?
This book has absolutely nothing new to say. Sure there are periods in history whare fashion and style took a back seat to utility, but overall, history shows us humans to be infinately more consumed with appearances and externals than what's under the hood. (Generally speaking mind you.)
Thanks to modern production methods and value engineering, widgets can be made so much faster/better/cheaper that profit margins on material goods are almost nil. So how do you lure customers when the market is so cut-throat? Manufacturers have two choices:
1. Increase Quality - which increases costs and typically wins you fewer customers.
2. Make it look more purdy - Everybody wants one because it just looks cool. Even though it falls apart within a month it doesn't matter. By then there will be a new fad in town. Preferrably it will be a new fad that you have developed.
You are right. This file is essentially an original, and while DRM managed music is not specifically mentioned, it does mention "A copy of a downloadable eBook", which is practically identical.
I would expect that to soon change to "Any downloadable media".
This isn't about the song. People are now bidding for the privilege of direct involvement of setting a legal precedent against DRM. And to donate to the EFF. Check out the auction.

The outcome could set a precedent for future DMCA court cases. If George Hotelling and/or Apple can successfully transfer ownership, it would be a huge blow to other vendors who aren't willing to make provisions for such a transaction.
Will corporate pressure kill the BitTorrent movement, or will it keep flying from site to site before it settles somewhere 'safe' like Sealand's HavenCo?
hmm... This doesn't sound too much like an advertisement, does it?
Funny how so many slashdot articles are commercials in disguise...
E-mail software should do e-mail, not be some bloated "groupware solution".
Let me guess... You don't administer a network for a bunch of people who want to share contacts and calendars, as well as send/receive e-mail?
I would love to plug in an open-source e-mail server, but it doesn't fit the bill. Groupware is what is needed by management. Thinking SMTP,POP3, and/or IMAP alone will meet their needs is awfully short-sighted.
Check out www.n0rh.com. (if they aren't still slashdotted.) They are primarily a high-end audio company based in Tailand with a rather unique philosophy. Take a look at their speakers!
This is pretty lame. I'm rather disgusted with the bickering, suing, counter-suing, and zealotry going on between both commercial and open-source *NIX organizations. It almost makes me want to switch back to Micro$oft from FreeBSD....almost.
(It's a shame BeOS isn't really on the map anymore. It didn't fall into the category of a *NIX.)
Ahem! I would like to announce that I am the real UNIX IP owner. (I can prove it. No, really...) And in the spirit of goodwill, I hereby declare that the code be given back to the people!
Now I'll go back to my FreeBSD box (which is arguably more UNIX than Linux) and hasn't come under fire at all for this...

Never mind then.

Guess which one 99% of retailers choose?
Bottom line: Nothing new; just more conveniant.
Slashdot's own Roblimo has done an internal investigation of said web-based geek news site and found that is has no base in reality at all.

Sorry, DRM not DMCA.
And yes, I did preview before posting. It's just one of those days...

In Soviet Russia, Sony Laptops shock ... um... nevermind.
Just because Open-Source coders can't spell when they insert comments doesn't mean that they can't write good code!
Did Mr. Joseph Otumba from Nigeria get my response?
Perhaps it should read:
"I've been wearing this shirt every day for the past week, but no one noticed..."

It couldn't be V(x) without him.
BZZZT. Wrong.
Nebuchadnezzar lived during the time of Daniel. The events of the Tower of Babel are chronicled in the book of Genesis.
I'd buy neither. I'd get a Handera.
(the sad part is that I own a TRGpro..)
