  1. The most amazing thing about the games of old... on Saving Our Video Game Heritage · · Score: 1

The most amazing thing about the old classic video games is how they differed from one another, in comparison to alot of today's games...

Maybe it's been a long time since I went into an arcade, but it seems a lot of the games today are either simulation games (Racing or Flight Sim), or 1v1 fighting games (Tekken, MK, SF)... I remember when I was younger, I wanted to play every game in the arcade, but as I got older, I started focusing on Street Fighters and Mortal Kombats...

Whatever happened to the Ikari Warriors, 1942, the Double Dragons, Crystal Castles, Guantlents, Karnov's, Russian Attacks, Robocops? Are they still out there? I think MAME's idea is a great one, especially for me, but is there a limit to its emulation power? Does anyone know where one can read up on this?

The great thing is the old games are sometimes just as challenging as the new games... I remember getting a bigger rush beating a level in the original Star Wars game, then beating D Maul in Power Battles...

Does anyone share the same feelings?

My personal opinion is the guy had an assignment due,
Got really stoned and fell asleep watching Johnny Mnenomic... Woke up and typed out his report thesis or whatever that was...

But they're cool enough to head in that direction...

But here is where I thought it went bad... The part where he said that Unix was created 20 or so years ago, and people are fired up about an old technology... There is nothing wrong with improving something that is good... It's like asking the cave man after creating the wheel:

Caveman one: OOGA BOOGA Me Like Wheel!!!

Caveman two: But wheel been around for 20 years... OOGA BOOGA must create hover craft...

Obviously our cars are still using wheels... There must be some genius behind it, to keep improving these tires...

  5. Re:Star Wars Whiners on Star Wars Episode 2 Starts Shooting · · Score: 3

Thats one helluva back door in the system. How can a farm boy crop duster turn into a ace pilot with no training? And don't give me lots of "the force" crap. Why can't an ace pilot successfully land a ship in a swamp? Especially if it can hover?

Look I don't mean to dig into your comment but have you watched the trilogy lately... Or even episode 1?

True Luke has never flown an X-wing before, but he is obviously piloted some sort of craft before... Remember the comment to Biggs about Beggar's Canyon? And remember the Skywalker's must have a knack for flying spacecraft for the first time, they seem to blow up whatever their target is... Episode 1's Droid control ship... And Episode 4's Death Star...

Second point... Even the best pilots can't land in zero visibility conditions... I mean he didn't see the branches until he actually crashed into him...

And finally this brings me to my third point... These are just fantasy movies... There is no such thing as light sabers, (even though I wish there was) the force (which I wish for more, imagine really being able to use the Jedi Mind trick, it would make life a lot easier convincing my boss to get a raise...), X-wing fighters, gungans (Thank God), etc... So just enjoy these movies for what they are, entertainment. George Lucas is a master at capturing or imagination, and taking it a long time ago in a galaxy far far away...

Let's not be so critical of these movies for now on... I mean even if this next one does suck, is that going to stop you from seeing the next one after that...?

I mean did that stop us from seeing all the highlanders?

Will this affect competition any? I don't think so... All it will do is piss people off (who don't know computers) that they know have to download or even buy a browser because one doesn't come with there operating system. Because the way I look at it... Microsoft wouldn't dare include Netscape with there operating system.

This also brings attention on how the breakup works... Do both companies belong under the "Microsoft umbrella" or are they two completely different entities?

Either way the government should be really careful... Canada isn't that far from Readmond... Moving might not seem that bad of an option anymore if breakup is the eventual outcome, and think of all the money that the U.S. would be loosing in tax revenue...

Digitally transmitting the film directly to the theatre saves this cost, as well as other benefits.

I agree it can save money, up until someone decides to spend the time and effort to start stealing or digitally borrowing the movies. Not every movie theatre is going to have there own private line. At least not now. Well it's going to be encrypted, well laudy frickin da! Everyone knows encryption, (much like rules) was meant to be broken, and think of the rewards you can receive if that were to happen. Probably some jail time for some teenager in Europe, but for the rest of us?

Also don't forget about all the controversy about can information be copyrighted? Movies aren't exactly a trade secret since everyone has access to them in a movie theatre... So if someone happens to steal this cartoon (which looks better than a lot of recent sci-fi movies) although it may be 50 gigs, it might be worth the price of a $250 dollar hard drive to view the current releases in the theatre from the 'privacy' of your own home...
