With linux getting better and better with hardware support (Ubuntu Dapper fixed even some paperweight webcams and printers gifted by well meaning relatives..), could we eventually see a MS gui/userland running on top of linux ? Will MS *ever* opensource their stuff ? Windows Neo... 5-10 years out maybe ??
Let's have a sweepstake on when that might happen, just for the kudos, you understand. I'll kick off with 2013 - lucky for some !
Actually it would be *very* cool to have a fully functioning MS/GNU/Linux, cos Mac OSX/Parallels certainly has the edge there today. Except that the MS parts would probably still be broken in some way;o) lol....
Dow Jones & Co., the media company that manages the well-known index of 30 blue chip stocks, said it discovered shortly before 2 p.m. that its computers weren't properly handling the day's huge volume in trades at the New York Stock Exchange.
It switched to a backup computer, and the result was a massive swoon in the index as the secondary system took over processing shortly before 3 p.m.
that is a great book, just re-read it a week or so ago, the twist near the end is one of the very best.. I won't spoil it for anyone, just make sure you read Non-stop if you like SF.
Hmm. Assuming you have no budget and no alternative computing facilities..
Could the IBM product function without the MS one ? Yes, you could download an alternative OS for free. Could the MS product function without the IBM one ? No.

google results don't differ that much from search to search - something tells me this algorithm is less than deterministic. $DEITY only knows what happened first time round;o)
Hear hear. Where I work, we have been using scrum for a couple of years, it works very well for us. We have 2 week sprints for finer granularity of deliverable code, and use XPlanner (http://www.xplanner.org/) for tracking the product backlog and sprint stories / tasks - XPlanner displays sprint progress in the form of a burn-down graph, which is great as you can see at a glance how well the sprint is going. As pigs also positively encourage chickens to attend, and that's very useful for everyone.
Why limit it to OSes that are for sale ?
;o) lol....
