    I remember that happening on the Mac. I think it was a holiday timebomb. It was classified as a virus, or rather a trojan horse in this case.

    I had some trouble with fizilla so I made an alias for the classic version of 0.9.3, put it in the shared folder, and partied on. It works fine. The skypilot theme works well too.

    Links is also a good browser, and if you have the time and expertise, you can run Amaya from XWindows.

    Don't like those update reminders? Here is how to fix that.

    Open the time/date window. Change the date to some time in the future. close the window then open QuickTime. click the Later button. Now quit QuickTime. Reset the date, and boogie on.

    For $29.95 you can upgrade to the Pro version, it is a good deal. I never regretted doing it.

    Just grab the power supply, that will calm you down. I heard that they are going to phase out CRT's in favor of LCD's. On the iMac, I hope they put some type of protective screen over the LCD. Jr can be rough on computers.

    YellowDog is my favorite and most up to date distro out there.

    I will have mine as soon as my ship comes in this fall.

    Don't you think businesses should held responsible if they sell a shoddy product?

    MS seems to push product out the door when they are "good enough", not when they are ready. We end up being the cannon fodder.

    Let's see you try to return some software to them saying it is defective.

    There is no consumer protection when it comes to software. All other industry has some standard they must achieve. What makes software exempt from consumer protection laws?

    there are still alternatives out there, might as well get a copy before MS devours them too.

    We need to push for a Lemon law for software. I think it is time folks. MS's license ensures one cannot hold them responsible for their imcompetance, or if you read I Cringley this week, their planned mediocracy.

    yellowDog Linux, it should rock. I think it is a bit pricey, that's my only problem with the machine. They need to show justifucation for the price.

    My YDL2 box is solid as a rock.

    upgrade. So far the build I have is stable, but i would like to see some speed tweaks now .
    Now we need Apple to get into the enterprise market, port to Intel, and undercut MS so bad that billy squeals like the pig he is.

    As with many reviews, they are out of date by the time they hit the shelves. 10.1 has been announce. the performance problems have been fixed. I use YellowDog2 and I thought his review was good, though a little on the rah rah side. YDL is the best distro out there for PPC. Let's see if Mandrake can give them some competition.

    Appleworks is just fine for my use. You don't have to jump through the Office hoops, it doesn't eat up resouces, and It does turn out some fine documents. The spreadsheet is OK too.

    Sure go ahead and port Open Office, but If you need a mature office suite for much less than MS bloat, try AppleWorks.

    Good! The more frustrated people get with Windows, the better chance other OS's have.

    Do you really believe MS will honor this agreement?
    They will 'convince' the OEM's that it would be in their best interest to do what MS wants. MS knows how to make vendors cooperate.

    Nothing is stopping you from plugging in a 2-3 button mouse. I use a wheel mouse on my G4.

    Wood shelving at K Mart. Each shelf can hold 150 lbs. My scanner is on the bottom, computer and monitor in the middle, and external drives on top.

    Shaky if not supported though.

    But if enough companies, cities, and school districts get audited, people will start comparing notes. Make sure you have turned in everybody in the yellow pages, then maybe MS will get the bad press they deserve.

    write a "Helpfull Hanna" letter to your local newspaper letters to the editor, warning of the random audits, and point out the different ways they can stick it to them. You like you said, or if they cannot find the paperwork. Or if one computer crashed and they had to reinstall the software, did they install the correct disk on the correct machine?

    Spread the seeds of doubt, a little paranoia is good for them.

    Most of all , have fun. Subversion can be fun if done right.

    Imagine thousands of companies and organizations getting audited. Turn in those organizations that are most loved and respected in your community. Go after the major employers too. turn them all in.

    Maybe we should give MS what they want. Let's turn in everybody from the dog catcher to our state legislature. Just flood their 800 number with every conceivable organization, school district, business and public figure.

    Let's have their lawyers knocking on the doors all over the country. Think of all the good will that would be spread.

    i wouldn't touch passport with a 10 ft pole. do you really trust MS with your information?

    I know they were supposed to have changed the license, but I would read it before agreeing. there is no reason to believe they wouldn't change it back. I would also make a copy of the license you agreed to and send it to your lawyer.

    they have shown it the past that they were not to be trusted. Cover your ass.

    If anything BSD should see this as a challenge. Now that BSD will be introduced to millions of users with OSX, it will push the developers to cater to the new users, curious to see BSD in its natural clothing, not dressed for the Prom.

    Take the emergence of OSX as a kick in the pants to get moving on a more user friendly version of BSD to cater to those who want to see what the hubub is all about. Hubbard moving to Apple is an opportunity to teach the public about BSD, Darwin, and open source.

    BSD is not dying, it has been handed a golden opportunity. Apple is making a big push to put its machines into schools. You know those kids are going to go straight to the commandline to see what makes OSX tick. If you have any marketing savvy, you know what to do from there.

    BSD and Apple working together will be good for both.

    I know some of us will be waiting to try some of the hacks. You know everyone will want to try Dock Dancer.

    So the Woz uses iCab. that makes sense. Of all the people in the computer world, he stands as one worth emulating. He has not forgotten that the computers most important element is the human using it.
