The layoffs were in the sales force. With the Apple Stores and the online store, FtF sales are not as essential.
There are several reasons we pay a little extra, quality of hardware, tight integration between hardware and software, and it is not Windows. If you are into the creative arts, Apple is the first choice. The Mac has always been geared to the Artist, publisher, teacher, and scientist. These people will tend to buy from those who care about their concerns.
I don't mind paying extra for quality. I know people that are still using the original Mac II. One uses his for fonts, another for HyperCard.
One lady bought a new Compaq, but went back to her 6200, citing the difficulty of using Windows for making class projects. It didn't have HyperCard.
BTW the 6200 line is probably the worst Apples made.
since March I have gotten at least five free upgrades. OSX 10.1 will be a free download. If you buy the disc, it will just be the cost of the medium and associated costs. $20 dollars is less than a good night at the local pub. $20. is cheaper than RedHat, YellowDog, SuSE, Mandrake........
They will be giving away discs at some Apple dealers.
Can you run Xwindows rootless on WindowsME?
Kids, do try this at home I will have AbiWord running on OSX soon.

Look at the great Satan, the NSA, they have released a version of Linux. I have a friend who worked for them until a few months ago. He says Linux is king. Of course the NSA is mostly geeks. I wouldn't expect them to be using windows 95. directing businesses to the NSA site and to SELinux, could give credibility to Linux and open source software. We need more high profile groups who use Open source to step forward. NASA, aren't they using BSD?
BTW, the US Postal Service is still using W95 and has not intention to upgrade.
I do believe that once they have a large enough user base for XP, they will switch to a subscription plan.
You keep plowing and sowing the same field year after year, the soil will wear out, and your crops will fail.
I love QNX. I work for the Post Office. our letter sorting machine is powered by QNX. the Techs, who used to be Windows drones, now love QNX. I think if you could. Pitch QNX for the desktop, replacing Win 95 they are using. Sooner or later MS is going to make them upgrade, and the cost will be astronomical.
They are, I believe using WebObjects for their intranet, so show them how well it works with that.
You ever heard of guerrilla warfare? Instead of random acts by script kiddies, we are seeing electronic warfare by nations and political groups. Now that the separation between corporate and business interests has disappeared, is a blow against corporate tyranny any different that blows against some government?
Freenet is the outback, the deep forest that hides the liberator/bandit.
I have never installed Mandrake, but I can tell you that YellowDog is a snap to install. The only problem I have is with my Epson printer. I will wrestle that to the ground soon.
You need to be well versed in Linux to use Debian. YellowDog is perfect for those who are new to Linux or just doesn't want to fuck with all the minute details.
I am running YellowDog and on one machine, and OSX on another. They are both fine with me.
Sorry to see LinuxPPC go down. They were good guys.
We see that Ms is going to bundle their games with Xbox. Is this an attempt to screw 3rd party developers?
People dis Apple for not putting much software on their boxes and not offering much hardware. These people don't understand that this is to help third party vendors. If you fear that your product will be cloned & bundled by MS, like they are doing with the firewall(or enter your favorite dead software catagory), you will be reluctant to enter the market.
Not sure about that. Classic is the only way to run Photoshop at this time. when i go into XWindows from Aqua, I can keep my Classic apps running especially if I am doing graphics. Gimp and Painter play well with each other.
WindowMaker has been used for sometime by OSX users. They are from the same family if you remember.
Remember, if you build it they will come. Jobs knew the UNIX/Linux fans couldn't resist. Look for more BSD apps to be ported. for now check out this screenshot. Yes that is photoshop. Yes Apple still matters.
more than eye candy more than a toy.
This looks like a lot of fun

Let's you elect a president by having your brother fix the election in an important state, then have partisans on the court make sure it is final.
Wacom should have the drivers for OSX soon. I love my Wacom.
I use it on my Dual G4/450
BBedit is fine, but MMKedit rocks. It's free.
AppleWorks in Classic and native is fine. AbiWord is available too.
World Text on the developer disc is a very good editor.

This sounds like an urban legend. It sounds like the internet tax or some other e-mail hoax.
Even if it was real, it wouldn't make it out of committee.
You're welcomed.

Hmm it shows PPC as supported, but on the download page there was no PPC download shown.
Al
I don't have an Intel box. I am a PPC kind of guy. They used to have some PPC stuff. I will dig to see if it is still there.
I wonder if it will run in VirtualPC?

I am still waiting for Xbill to be ported. Until then OSX will be incomplete.
I forgot to tell you that Mandrake has a PPC port, and you can always try the BSD ports.

Apple is all over Hollywood. These guys don't want to have to learn shell scripts. they want to point and click, then deliver.
Every second is important. If Firewire saves a few seconds per download, it more than pays for itself.
Maybe someday Apple will get an Oscar for FinalCut Pro. It is saving big bucks for the indie film makers.

I hope they don't soon. I am debugging my sircamelissacodered/trojan/worm/virus totebag and DVD player.

Lucent doesn't need anything to increase expenses. They are suffering right now.
Time to look into the PowerPC chip. They are low power/heat and work well. Transmeta might have something to fill the gap too.
Because our Blue Screen of Death turned purple.
