Back when it looked very bleak for Apple, the backup plan was to learn Linux. The feeling was, that it was better to go Linux than to surrender to Windoze. Many of the Mac users who are also Linux users are a resource, and a decided plus for the platform.
For myself, I will fight for Linux as hard as I fought for the Mac. Intel, AMD, or PPC, means nothing. It is Linux that matters. If I had to decide between Microsoft or nothing, I'd choose nothing.
Well they tried and failed. The computer is not a toaster, it is an extention to the human body, and has to be designed with the human in mind*. Apple still has the best in industrial design, the rest are just posers and they know it.
At least they are trying. Sony and Silicon Graphics have done a good job, but still exhibit a coldness. If you study the way the new Macs guide the eye, you will see there are some very smart people in the design department. They effectivley manipulate the user and potential buyer. The design is an advertizement. Look at how the G3 on the side of the case guides the eye to the Apple logo. The handles also direct the eye to the center and the logo.
I am glad that the others have taken up the iMac challenge, at least they are thinking "outside the beige box." Putting Linux on those boxes would really Help too.
*I hated the round mouse at first, but now I see the method to their madness. It disappears. the touch is so light it takes no effort. The perfect shape for a kids hand.
the person who made you pay extra for the letter is an anal asshole. I am a mailcarrier, and we let many "sins" pass. If it is 2 or 3 cents postage due, and we know that the person is dirt poor, screw it, we take it out of our own pocket. If some little ol lady sends out a letter and she forgot to put a stamp on it, and it is on the same route, no biggie. Same on tax day, if it seems that the guy didn't put enough postage on it, I carry stamps on that day to keep my customers from having to pay late fees.

Screw em, they don't figure into my life, and I don't mean squat to them. They can call me anything they want, I don't care.
My fear is that they will do to Perl what they are trying to do to Java.

Sorry that you had a hard time.
