I don't get this article. It seems to emphasize, and re-emphasize, that the "main source" of vit D is sunlight. Why should that be? Just take a one-a-day, or whatever.
Seems to me that a terrorist hit on one of these trains would be much easier than hitting an airliner. At those speeds, a lot of damage could be done. And the terrorist would not even have to kill himself in the process.
These sorts of comparisons are pointless. People don't run an OS just to run the OS. The point of an OS is to be a platform for apps, and allow you to interface with your hardware. If your OS won't do that, it doesn't matter how good it is.
There is also a lot of hardware that will only work with windows: combination print/fax/scan machines, wireless NICs, WinModems, specialized devices such as barcode printers, POS equipment, and so on.
Maybe the special skills that employers can not find in the USA, is fluency in Russian, or Hindi?
As companies export IT as fast as they possibly can, I expect that is very helpful to have somebody state-side who can speak their language, and who understands their culture.
Overall, does the "Dehli discount" really cut costs all that deeply? Or, by the time you write, and re-write, the specs, etc. do you end up spending more? Will the present obstiticles to offshoring be overcome, and thereby totally decimate technology jobs in the USA? Or, will rising costs associated with offshoring cause the practise to level out? What technical specializations do you consider especially vulnerable, or invulnerable, to offshore outsourcing?
I bought a cartridge for $25 and it's lasted me for years.
Sure it's big, slow, b&w, and 300dpi. But it serves my purposes and costs practically nothing. I have read that HP thinks they made a mistake with series II and IIIs in that they made them too reliable. I figure my HP II is at least 15 years old.
My wife has a much newer HP laser, it's not bad either.
Could this guy be deliberately setting up "experiments" to get weird results? My guess is that bizare stuff will sell more books, but is it more credible than the more traditional, boring, studies?
The titles of these books sound more catchy than the typical titles of most scientific studies, I'll say that.
What do other real economists think of these studies?
The worthless light-rail system they put up in denver cost $14B. And, that is a *much* smaller project. I think this tunnel would cost closer to $100B.
You do realize that msft only offers things for free so that msft can further cement it's vendor lock? Once msft owns the market, don't expect that freeness anymore.
Thugs love to give themselves away. Don't ask me why. For example, they video-tape their bullying. Great, now there is solid evidence. I say let them post, maybe we will find the future gun toting pscyos?
The Columbine killers posted, or emailed, many threats. Those threats were obvious clues, which could have been acted on. Before the killings, the mother of one of the victims even brought the emails to the attention of the school.
1) Please don't use proprietary formats designed specifically to enhance vendor lock-in. You are throwing away about 15% - 20% of your market, and pissing off a lot of people. And, of course, you are locking yourself into a specific vendor, for no good reason.
2) Please make websites that are simpler, saner, more standards compliant, and faster. Please spare us the all the annoying dancing monkeys, or whatever. Please note that some of the most successful sites are also the simplest: slashdot and google, for example.
Using.doc is not a big problem. Abiword, OpenOffice, and others use.doc. Just don't ever "upgrade" your office suite. No upgrades == no sales. For msft, that's almost as bad as switching products.
BTW: job seekers may also be for forced to use.doc, it's the only format recruiters will accept. Don't know why.
If somebody came out with a product that competes with an adobe product, users could just switch.
The situation with the OS is very different. If I switch my OS, I may have also have to change my applications, and my hardware. And compatible applications may not even exist.
We're sick of msft funding bogus lawsuits, lying to the US-DOJ, openly defying the EU, filing bogus patents, faking TCO studies, and faking benchmarks. We're sick of msft creating fake "think tanks" like AdTI, and using fake journalists like Enderle. We're sick of the astroturfing, and letters from dead people campaigns. We are not happy about msft stacking the deck with msft employees in the OOXML approval process.
Problem solved.

What if I wanted to paint a huge swastika on my Garage door? Or use the big "N" word? Aren't authorities limiting "cyber-bullying" ?
or W2K or whatever.
I don't know where this bizare idea that people will switch to linux, instead of staying with what they already have.

Aren't these snot-nose posters just hilarious?
operations?

There are plenty of USA workers. These articles make no sense, they never have.
No matter what trade school you go to, there will somebody in India, or East-Europe, to work for 1/3rd your salary.
Unless you speak Hindi, or Russian, then you don't have have the special skills these companies need.

This also means the hating of Vista is stronger then msft's influence over dell. You know that msft must hate this.

Maybe there is some sort of screening software that requires .doc format?

Don't send an email, print it out, sign it, and send it snail-mail. It gets much more attention that way.
Or, so I've heard.

Need I go on?
I know Seible is owned by Oracle now, but not for that long.
Where I work, we use a web-based Seible product called crmondemand. It will only work correctly with MSIE. The Firefox MSIE plug-in doesn't help.
This seems very similar to MS sounding the alarm about Netsape - before msie took over.
For anybody other than MS to have a monopoly is catostrophic.
First, don't forget that a web-app can run on an intranet, and not be accessible by the internet.
Second, a highly skilled disgruntled employed could probably steal information just as easily from his desktop.
There probably are some apps which are best not ran remotely, but not for reasons cited here.
