This is really great - I was setting up rsync and ssh on my parents computer a couple days ago as part of a backup system. I was having a problem with rsync hanging on a 2GB pst file, but the new cygwin brings rsync up to date, and whatdoya know... it works! Now my openbsd box happily backs up their stuff!
Of Speed: In my experience, testing hypothesis is better than untested presumptions. Also, is speed your only concern - is your server that highly utilized? One example, OpenBSD chroot/jails Apache by default, Ubuntu doesn't. If someone hacks your website on OpenBSD they are limited to/var/www/ instead of the default in Ubuntu which lets the attacker start at /

OpenBSD 4.6 Released
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
Doing what others only dream... a scheduled release, early!
not only that, but BTOS was command line driven in a way that linux/unix and windows can only dream of:) Oh, and long file names, yeah.. they got that... also, they didn't use extensions in the file name to tell you what type it was!
BTOS is dead as far as I know. It's almost impossible to find anything on the internet about it... except I do have a B28 at home that can run it... but that machine hasn't been powered on for years.
Yeah, this is obviously Verizon's fault. The aggressive customer acquisition and retention training program clearly has too much bandwidth. Verizon cannot continue without bailouts.
Why didn't they spin up the drive to check for a disk, run the routine that doesn't spin the drive up and based on the results, adapt the result to the computer...
1) Build a collider 'thinggy' 2) Create a blackhole which consumes the entire universe... into a single point. 3) this causes a "Big Bang" 4) Big Bang re-creates 'life' 5) 'life' gets too smart for its own good - Goto step 1
I used to have the same problem and the two options I've used very successfully are rsync (with link-dest and --partital)
if you don't have ssh, then use wget - just copy the url's from your cpanel backup page:
(take this example - which was sanitized from a backup script... it should "almost" work:) ) wget -q --http-user USER --http-password x y http://www.YourSite.com/backup-YourSite.com-`date +%m-%d-%Y`.tar.gz
I had a TI-89 graphing calculator and tigcc ( tigcc.ticalc.org ). It's a great way to learn C. You can crash your calculator all day long at school (which is great debugging practice, it also provides motivation to go home and fix said bugs at night).
Lots of kids do games, or teach their calculator how to be a little better at math;) Of course, I'd encourage making simple games, and maybe working up to a 3D rpg:)
yeah, it is a horrible example of source code. No comments whatsoever. It looks like the programmer deliberately took the comments out. Not very professional.
Slashdot needs a theme that is very neutral... and looks like a legitimate business website...that an IT person might visit. this turquois stuff really stands out at work... shooot... here comes the boss....
The graph in the times shows 145 years of data, and the average it uses is a 30 year average from 1961 - 1990. Never mind that they can't count. Why doesn't the graph use a 145 year average? The warmest years on the graph are 1990 to present. It is interesting that according to the graph, 1960 - 1980 recorded more cool years than warm!
again, reading the graph, from 1880 - 1910, there was a warming period that was even more significant than the one currently observed. Why?
From 1910 - 1940, there was a very significant decrease in temperateure. Why?
So, from 1880 - 1910 I'm sure everyone was afraid of the next heat wave and from 1910 - 1940, there was an ice age headed our way.
Interesting that this graph shows a classic bell shaped curve that we all learned to love in our college statistics classes. It is safe to predict regular variations that follow the same pattern. Therefore, I predict in 20 - 50 years (a very short time span in the grand scheme of things), that a cool down will occur.
yes, but where do you buy these things? i tried to rearrange my qwerty keyboard, and ended up finding that the keys on row x are only meant for row x, and won't work on row x+1...!
i did manage to break my space bar too:)
so, my question is: if i have a keyboard that doesn't lend itsself to mod'ing, where can i find one of those fancy keyboards?
I did a introductory paper on chaos theory once.... glad to see that Poincare did other extremely cool stuff as well... even if it did take us a hundered years to prove it to ourselves...:)
hrm, I've really got to get off of this chaos=order kick... its affecting my life in very unpredictable ways... er, so that was sort of randomly normal... er...

BSD rises from the dead... news at 10. BSD sighted at Apple and in the wild!
but how does any of that reflect on OpenBSD?

This will work great... until someone duplicates their warning popup, and take that poor customer off to a malware site!

either way, cut and paste the backup url links, supply user name, passord and your done. Make alittle more than alot of sense to me :P

But they're not programming computers...
... just look at sites like www.ticalc.org
they're programming calculators like the TI-83 Plus and TI-89
not only that, but they're learning C, ASM, and BASIC... wow!
I seriously did a double take and had to check the calendar to make sure...

If a Journalist can write it, then why can't I? As an American we all have the right of free speech.
i think they call your new technology a "modem"... yeah, they're new, cool, and ultra not fast. But they make lots of nice noises.
I dropped one of my 10 megabyte seagate harddrives 3 feet onto cement. It still worked. This darn thing is 20 years old!
now if that's not bomb proof, i don't know what is!
