That's not true. Any decent personal firewall for Windows (Black ICE, Norton Internet Security 2000, or ZoneAlarm) will alert you to both unauthorized inbound and *outbound* connection attempts.

Granted, my experience with air travel is mostly limited to US Airways. But I find it hard to believe that they are the only airline that allows for use of personal electronic devices.

Most news segments and television shows are recorded on Betacam SP. It is *not* the same as BetaMax. Betacam has more lines of resolution, more space for audio, and comes in two tape sizes. Betacam SP is what Sony made after Betamax failed so that they wouldn't lose all of their R&D investment.

While most local news affiliates still use Betacam SP the DV formats are quickly being adopted by the major networks for news and syndicated shows.

That is not the only way Nielsen collects viewing habits. They also send out thousands upon thousands of viewing journals. Each journal covers 1 week of time and the home is on its honor to accurately fill out the journal during the week.

I just did this a few weeks ago. I'm sure the Nielsen people were very interested in a week long journal that had only listings for the Sci-Fi, Learning, and Discovery channels and only averaged about 2 hrs of viewing a day.

I own Napster. I use Napster. I use Napster because with my broadband connection it is quicker for me to find .MP3 files of the music on the CDs in my CD collection and download them then it is to manually rip every song off of every CD I own. I have every right to the .MP3 version of the song, since I own the CD. Napster is a time saving device.

Some of my CDs have scratches on them. I still own them though. Napster allows me to effectively legally "fix" these errors in my collection by downloading good versions of songs that I legally own on CD. That way I don't have to drop more money just to repair something I've already purchased.

Amiga based Video Toasters are not digital editors. They are analog editors with a computer interface, a character generator, a 3D package, and a lot of DVEs.

You do not digitize the video before editting. All editting is done from A/B roll edit decks through the Switcher onto a record deck. You could automated the process with edit decision lists and a Video/LAN that could control your vLAN capable decks, but all editting happens in the analog realm.

If you get the ill-fated Video Toaster Flyer add-on you have access to a limited digital NLE system, but it isn't much better than using Adobe Premiere, some software from FAST, or Avid's low-end Mac and NT based NLE.
