  1. Seems Cool in Concept on 3-D Monitor From Deep Video Imaging · · Score: 1

Seems pretty cool in concept.. however I had trouble hitting the site deepvideo.com. Either they're not able to handle the load of slashdot people.. or they are down. :(

EXACTLY!! Most of the people posting here bashing CF have exactly no idea what they are talking about. CF is stronger than ASP in terms of simplicity of coding. 25:1 lines of ASP to ColdFusion for the same task seems quite realistic.

Cold Fusion is designed to be easy to use. It's very powerful and my company has built its entire website around it. If you couldn't figure it out, that doesn't mean it doesn't WORK, got it? That just means there's something wrong with YOU.

More power to you man. I am also a ColdFusion developer and although I, unlike you, find C++ fun.. coldfusion has its merits because it's a very very rapid development language. It simplifies very common problems in web app development and reduces them to their essence, which is an insightful design on the part of ColdFusion's creators, and is in-line with the philosophy you presented in your post.

Coldfusion 4.5.1 Solaris has been out for a month now, buck-o.

  6. Not true: M$ employees can easily find jobs on Microsoft vs. Slashdot Update · · Score: 2
    Thiarna, you said the following:

I wouldnt start trying to support Slashdot from inside unless you have a good idea where your next job could come from. Betraying your own company could make it difficult to get a job anywhere in the industry, even if it is Microsoft you're betraying

Ummm.. I think you're wrong here. It's a fallacy that if you get kicked out of M$ you would have trouble finding a job. It's also a bit of a cowardly thing to say.

The job market is great in the tech industry. Believe me. Microsoft has very rigorous hiring standards and they hire only the best and the brightest. If you are a M$ employee, and you quit tomorrow, chances are you can find another job pretty quickly. The industry is starved of very bright people.. and it is especially willing to hire ex-M$ employees. (Believe me, I know a few that have had no trouble getting another job).

  7. Re:Perhaps just remove the actual text copies on Microsoft Asks Slashdot To Remove Readers' Posts · · Score: 1
I can't believe you think that slashdot should be removing ANYTHING from the site. Slashdot is a public channel used for communication. If you start letting companies like microsoft dictate what can and cannot be transmitted via public channels, you run the risk of compromising everyone's personal freedom!! Slashdot should not be responsible for what its users post. It is a public medium akin to email or newsgroups. I don't think it's a stretch to think that today M$ monitors and censors slashdot postings.. and tomorrow it will monitor and censor private emails or postings on public newsgroups in the spirit of "fostering innovation". This situation, along with the drivel that is the DMCA is absurd. We as citizens of this fine country and as members of a highly intelligent, geeky online community should stand up and not let this type of evil big-brotherism take place!

Not to mention the fact that M$'s business model and its monopolistic practices are also quite sickening.

This is very different from someone posting something like the Windows source code, which WOULD decrease its value.

The only reason posting the Windows source code would decrease its value is that people would realize how poorly coded it is and they would refuse to build their businesses around it!

Hey man, give the guy a break. It seems easier to criticize someone after the fact, doesn't it? And as far as SDRAM on i820s, you are exaggerating the slowdown. A system with an i820 and SDRAM is damn fast (esp if you factor in the high processor speeds this motherboard is capable of). It benchmarks better than any i440's... so it isn't quite the step back. Plus the 4x AGP is quite a killer.
