Last year I went from having killer Mediaone/AT&T Broadband to this Second rate Crap from Charter Cable. I Used to get my whole 1.5 down and 300 Up all the time when I was with Mediaone/AT&T(Once or twice I had to complain that things seemed slow and pull out my paper works saying that it was supposed to reach those speeds, it was always fixed within hours, usually after my IP changed so we know what happened there). Charters system only states that it will achive "up to" 512...UP? down? 256 each way? I don't know they don't say. I complained initially that I wasn't even getting near 512 on Charter they were quite unsym(pathatic). I wanted to replace things with DSL, but I am too far from the CO, and I live in verizon land so it probably wouldn't have helped anyway. I asked Charter for a second Cable modem they weren't having any of that. Worse recently they appear to have blocked port 53, so my DNS server became unreachable, and took my domain down for several days. Broadband in general needs to have more people in the game.
>>>Hate speech is not an opinion it is a CRIME!
+I agree Hate Speech is a CRIME, but its a protected crime, in the US. You can say all you want if you dislike some person or group, but you must take action to violate the law generally.(There are some exceptions)
>>>Why has a country like Germany (the main culprit of WW2)
+Yep they had an evil leader that made them do evil things, and got other countries to go along with it(although if you look at what the man was doing would realize that had he succeeded, that his allies in part one would have become his targets in part two) Speaking of which why is that most of us rememeber Japan, Germany but never speak of the other countries that were involved, Italy seems to get away scott free in most discussions.
>>>>learned the lessons of World War II whilst the USA (which shares some complicity for what happened in the Holocaust
+The only thing were share there is that we didn't enter the war soon enough, as long as we were not under attack we were happy to say out of it. It was only after Japan attacked us that we got involved for the most part.
>>>> and also has some hateful events of its own in its name, such as the genocide of indians and the racist wars against Japan, Korea and Vietnam)
+ Humm lets see, Japan attacked us first, we fought back, bombed them to hell and back, produced the broad stroke to win the war there, so they would leave us the hell alone, ask me they got what was coming to them. Germany might have got the same if it had not been surrounded by the Countries the US was trying help. Can't very well Bomb Germany and have the Fallout land on France! We were asked to come to the other two countries to defend the concept of freedom, and entered those wars to prevent another Germany, WW2.
>>>seemingly hasn't learned a thing and still alows racist groups to operate without impunity?
+Yes we do, see comment ONE above we call it the first amendment, Right to Free speech, you can't be arrested for thinking, only acting. The bulk of us do not want the Hate element operating, but the price of living in a free society is that we must allow people to act freely as long as they operate within the law.
>>>In Holland, where I live it is impossible for a hater to open his mouth without being in violation of the law.
+Well thats just Sad...
>>>The judge will interpret his sayings and send him to prison or fine him severely
+ Seems very, open to subjective judgement. How does one define hate speech? If I say that I dislike one person of a different race because I had bad business dealings it sounds as if I could be guilty of hate speech against an entire race. I was once accused of this infact, in grade school, I intensely disliked a teacher of mine who happened to be Black. I didn't dislike her for her skin color(I have had many balck friends, and even dated a Black woman for several months last year) I just didn't get along with her restrictive and oppressive way of teaching.
>>>We don't have any fascist groups whith more than a insubstatial followers.
+ I would love to see this in my country as well, but I feel the price is far too high, I am an opinionated Bastard, and I would hate to have something I said read into as hate crime. Perhaps you could provide more information on how this whole thing actually works, and what the limits are and such?
You god damned Nazi, prick, media companies, the SupremeFUCKING
Court
says we are allowed to time shift television programs. Furthermore you are NOT allowed to do anything that would prevent us from doing so. If you do this, I hope you all get your asses sued out of existance! I AM SO Damned tired of this.
After scratching my head for a couple minutes, it finally dawned on me this is a NON-Issue this copy protection will prevent ripping, but a bit by bit sector for sector copy will still work...there are plenty of programs out there that will have no problem coping even this disc.
We were just talking about that here at work...perhaps record companies could make more $$$ if they would invest their dollars for recording sessions etc, in music acts with talent, that will last the test of time. Which do you think is gonna be a higher seller over its history of existance a disc by Metallica, Rush, AeroSmith, or Creed...or the lastest piece of toilet bound material by the back door boys, Nsynch, or that crowd...no one is gonna give about Brittney Boobs in another year or so, but I can promise without a doubt Metallica's Kill'em all or Rush's Moving Pictures will still be stocked in quantity in 10 years. Record compnaies should stop investing in acts that have on talent, and only put out the cash to those that can deliver for the long haul.
This whole thing has gotten completely ridiculous.
They should fight this, to the death, cause they are gonna die anyway...we have a right to download the music, and there really is no way any service can make 100% stick anyway.
It was not so long ago that EVERY shuttle Launch was news. I remember getting up at insane hours of the morning when I was younger so I could watch the launch. I still would if they ever showed them. Seems like it was pretty much after the Challenger Blew up that they stopped showing the launches. I want them back on the air personally, it would do excellent things for Nasa's Image and public awareness. We NEED to explore space, and we need the $$ to do it. OUT of sight out of mind is whats happening to NASA. Our Planet is getting, more polluted, and more crowded as the minutes count, we are running out of resources. The answers to these problems are beyond the reaches of Earth's Gravity. Don't even go down the road, of conservation, recycling, social reform, less births, ETC. Wake the hell up people its not gonna happen. If anything has been proven over the history of the human race its that we consume, and never ever look back its in our nature. We need to spead out, and frankly this little rock is to damn small for us now.
So What? Screw you all I say, I am american centric, so what? I think despite its flaws we have a good govenment, where people can't get railroaded like this....and surprise, I also think everyone in the US should speak, English, and we shouldn't make any provisions at all for people who don't. I go to other countries, I expect them to expect me to speak there language, which in most cases I do at least in a limited fashion, enough to get by....OJ WAS Guilty we all know it, he got off, because the state lawyers were completely incompetent. But you know it was his right to get off, because of incompetent state lawyers. And I support that.!
Oh yeah I forgot this is not taking place in the US is it. I guess in Germany they don't have to follow any due process? In anycase hopefully someone has the latest source code so the current state is saved? Then the stuff can get renamed, put on a server elsewhere, the US(at least lawyers have to follow some due process here, say what you will), want Mine? I could probably let you use it for the time being?
Why is it that we the people are no longer represented...the govenment, has become the govenment of concerns, the big guys, the money launders. Get it right you goddamned politicians they should add a new line to the oath of office for every position. And I Insert name Understand completely, that in this country, its we the PEOPLE, and not we the BUSINESS.

Ok If I had moderator right now I would mod you up just for the kickass Rush reference!
We believe in the power of Email, NMS gone but not totally forgotten.
Traditionall my employeer haas actually been pretty good about training time and even playing for it. MCSE, MCSE 2000, MCDBA, CYLINK Private Wire, and several other certs all with out a dime from my pocket. Infact even got 50 Bucks for every test I passed doing my MCSE, and a 750 Bonus for achiving the cert. And I did it all on company time! Of course with the stock market taking a digger recently, getting training has become harder, and now about all they will do is pay for college courses on my time.
ISP's are allowed to carry stuff like this, are legally protected to be able to carry stuff like this because they are defined as an enhanced service provider(same thing as a common carrier). Bur now that one has bowed to pressure, the precentdent is set to make them all bow...well usenet has been declining, this could be the killer.
Ok, So I am going to play devils advocate for a moment. I Stress first that I absolutely do not agree with M$ on any of this crap.
However, as a software company, distributing your respective widgets, would you want to support someone using your widgets in an environemnt you don't have any direct support/control for?
We can all return to our days now, writing useful code on useful operating systems...or even in somecases writing useful code on thier useless operating system using another companies widgets and compilers.
Well since you didn't leave a real address I guess I have to beg in forum...I'd love to get the comics if you ever want to part with them, give me a price.
This is a good push in the right direction...BUT!, there is one thing missing...and its always missing from these conversations! Could we please make up our minds where libs belong. It seems like every new version of some programs, look for the libs in different places, every new version of the libs put them in different places, and every new distrobution puts them in a different place. I can't remember the number of times I have gone to upgrade a program that someone wrote to the lastest version, but the programmer wrote it to use/usr/lib for the libs that he also wrote, but the distrobution I am using decided they liked them better in/usr/local/lib. So now when I compile the program despite compiling the new libs for it as well, it keeps finding the old ones. Even windows is fairly good about this keeping most dlls in system32. Even worse is when the lib has been symlinked all over creation.
I lind this often with the gdk libs.
