Still have 50+ boxes of books in storage. *sigh* Am running out of walls to put bookshelves against. Still, a lot of these are out-of-print large reference books so don't want to get rid of them. If there was a public library within 30 miles of us, I'd donate them.
Yes! I devoured Tolkien in 3rd and 4th grade (and Homer (Fitzgerald trans.) in 5th) but Gormenghast stopped me dead. Never made it through first book. Same goes for Great Gatsby. Was only book in high school I couldn't make it through and defaulted to cliff notes. It almost gives me a headache to read. And I like Joyce! Go figure. Faulkner I can read and make it through but I don't enjoy. Has an odd flavor to the stories. GG Marquez, John Nichols and Mark Helprin are some of my fav modern writers. They're all dense and not necessarily action-packed (but they have their moments) but the richness of their world building and how easy it is to sink into the stories are great!
Just bought our first photo-printer this weekend (Epson 330NX for $69). Daughter's taking a photography course in 4H. Also picked up a Canon Powershot that can do manual settings and such. Now, the paper and ink for the epson cost more than the printer but it's quality is pretty good. For a kid who's grown up in a digital world, she's pretty psyched printing out 5x7's and framing them, just like I thought it was so cool to take a picture with the Apple QuickTake 100 (Kinkos early 90's) and seeing it show up on my computer without having to scan it in.
Um... upper management success is what (modern) business is all about. It has nothing to do with thriving, providing jobs with upward mobility or helping out with the common good. It's all about me, me, ME!
For another movie series that needs help: Star Trek - First Contact
When the USS Defiant was sent back in time, it shoulda' had Cisco on it. He blamed Picard for his wife's death but with both of them back in time, there coulda' been some cool drama as Cisco and Picard have to get along to fight the Borg.
Yup, same here. One year, we had some decent spinach and lettuce but for the last two years, nothing. Doesn't help that we're trying this at 8,000 feet up the side of a really windy hill and had snow up until mid-May followed by worst drought in 50 years. Figure we'll do better once we've built a sun room along south side of house and do container gardening.
Am still bummed that they killed off two good characters halfway through the first movie. Qui-Gon woulda' made a great 'loose-canon' cop type of figure, that could have shown Anakin an alternative to the monkish, "stand back and watch" Jedi council. Anakin could have been the young guy who, following what he see's an older guy do, goes to far and then begins the slide to dark side.
And Darth Maul was the sickest villain since Vader. What a shame. Lucas really needed an story editor who could stand up to him.
...the consumer is now in control...
The horror, the horror.
Damn it! They should be working on getting rid of the Sun!
Computer, locate the Captain.
The Captain is currently in a lifeboat, approximately 2 miles distant from the ship, with a young blond lady, and a lobster dinner.
So... he rose to the level of his incompetence?

Advangement is a perfectly cromulent word.
Maybe mix some pot or THC in with the materials. Drug laws are pretty fierce.
Smart thieves wear white collars?

In the grim future of Hello Kitty there is only war.

Kumis? I think it's made in a bag.
But, but... Reagan was a hero. He once jumped into a river and saved a guy's life once!

Even if my cynical what? My cynical truck? My cynical rifle? Am definitely feeling less than cromulant.

Also, OP: there?
This. You explained it much better than I could.

Was he also the guy who stood in for Basil Rathbone in The Court Jester with Danny Kaye or was that before his time?
