Yup, I ran all the low voltage stuff in the house we were building (Cat 6, speaker cables) and the inspector wouldn't sign off on it, despite it all being up to code. As a home owner, was required to take the LV city course for certification and they only gave that once a year and I'd just missed it. My old state, LV was fine without a cert. PitA! Ended up just running empty conduit everywhere and they couldn't say anything against that.
I'm still waiting for tablets to get to full laptop power (core2duo minimum) / storage and be dock able with a full size monitor and screen. The tablet would basically become a mobile case for your processor and hard drive, with a touch screen for file access.
Free market means the meanest, sneakiest, most underhanded dog wins. It's time to give up on all this civilization and enlightenment claptrap and return to dog-eat-dog world.
Well, yeah! The courts have said that corporations are better than people. It's time for them to be in charge and to sweep all the little people ($350k/year income) away and make room for the new pharaohs' age.
One thing that seems to differentiate Jobs from other tech leaders is his broad vision of how something can be done or used (original Lisa and Mac was supposed to be information appliances) and also focus on the details. Recently read how he rejected the icon for some Apple app over a hundred times. And then there's also his ability to drive people. Sounds like a real bastard to work with but he gets results.
Bill Gates? He's been gone for years now but is still the MS posterboy. Gates and Jobs are about the only two pop-culture (as opposed to geek culture) corporate icons I can think of. Even non-Techies tend to know who they are. Poor Larry Ellison; only has geek fame.
Um, yur talkin' 'bout gov't regulation and as everyone knows, any form of gov't intervention in business or private lives is bad. So don't do gov, 'cause it's bad, m'kay?
Um... not sure big corporations are really that concerned about domestic demand anymore. Already, GM makes more money in China than the U.S. and movies always make more money overseas as well. So sure, their domestic take will go down but international income is going up more than the U.S. losses. As long as the quarterlies look good, they get their bonuses and to hell with anything/anyone else.
Oh sure! When's the last time you heard of a major bank or financial institution laying off high paid U.S. workers and opening up in Asia? Or Lawyers? You don't see them outsourcing them.
Hey! You're bringing up that Demand BS. Everyone knows it's all about Supply. Who cares if there's no one out there to purchase your stuff (consumer economy's only 70% of U.S. economy) as long as you produce enough, you can sell at a loss and make it up on volume.
The U.S. middle class has run out of use to the corporations. Just a few more generations and they'll have things back to the way of the pharaohs, with none of that Enlightenment clap trap ruining things for those on top.
A cold pack and maybe some warm up exercises beforehand might be a bit cheaper than going through the whole rehiring process. But then, other employees might wonder why they're not being coddled as well. In the long run, makes sense to just smack them all down so they learn their place in life and no longer thing they're as good as their betters.
Bubonicon 43 just wrapped up here in Abq.

When you look at what Nixon passed, he was the most environmentally pro-active president since Theodore Roosevelt.
We have to go. Um... my wife is having her period.

It's all about getting it into the goal.

Still reading it every day. Can't say that for any other news/info/blog site. Way to go and good luck on the future!
THANKS!
Why does nature have to have all these fuzzy edges and demarcations. It's almost like things just happened, rather than being planned.
I do, however, like the non-word "excretorium"
