    PS. To would be Walmart-Sympathizing-Moderators: I think most would agree the *type* of entity WalMart is COMPLETELY relevant to this discussion

    Walmart and its misdeeds is a favourite topic of mine, and I believe most /. geeks (with conscience) will find shopping there morally reprehensible -- in-spite of its "support" of GNU/Linux here.

    Also, ive got maxed karma, anyone modding me down will waste their points -- ill repost at 2 again. Just because you cannot compute morallity with regards to $$$ dosnt mean everyone else is incapable of complete analysis.

    Yes, this is a very big problem. You have your Plutocrats making (virtual) non-competion arrangments with one another (all these consortiums, RIAA, MPAA, WorkingGroupThisAndThat) that define the marketplace, then they go about dividing it up.

    Its a method to raise the barrier to entry. It is exactly what AntiTrust laws are supposed to prevent - but in America(and everywhere out of necessity) it seems like the big fish will just eat the smaller ones and then sit back and rub-there-tummies with oneanother..

    They constantly cited Apple in the antitrust trial (and Linux as well) as proof that competition is alive and well in the OS market.

    Real head-to-head MS-Apple competition is vapourous. I believe Apple has been given a little more rope at the moment to raise the appearance of competition.

    Gates and Jobs would quickly resolve themselves into a nice, pleasant non-competion arrangment if the DoJ would just buzz off.

    If your leadership had any interest outside of serving your corporate masters (the ones who profit from American consumption) than maybe just MAYBE you Yankees could realize "Hey, we are driving the plant to shit -- lets put on the breaks, think use some sense, and chart a different course. The alternatives are massive war, famine,...., etc"

    I mean really, what is it with Americans failing to accept responsibilty and make responsible decisions? Is your country run by children?

    Its funny how the US calls its armed forces 'defence forces' and such - when in reality, the US Army is the most offensive force in the world. There is virtually no chance of armed conflict in North America (oceans as natural barriers), but American military is not meant to 'defend' themselves - its meant to goto war around the world. Just look at any of the 70 armed conflicts USofA has been involved in since WWII.

    um, not really.
    A) most people would advocate a ladder or mass accelerator of some type, generally most would not suggest to do this with rockets..

    B) if you have a small enough load -- in a remote enough area -- you would radiate a large area 'just a little'...

    There is radiation all around you now, everywhere, if properly concieved a rocket scheme could produce a risk equal to very mildy raise radiation...

    Next time you get this NIMBY (not in my back yard) feeling -- think back to last time you were at the mall? mcblondalds? car dealership? did you buy ANOTHER pair of shoes? ANOTHER mchpally meal toy for your kid? ANOTHER SUV?

    When you goto the market, do you buy LOCAL organic produce? do you buy ORGANIC clothing? Shoes made from Non-profit CoOps?

    These things are inter-related, you WILL have to have a power station in your backyard unless you make good decisions -- Do You?

    Ever stop to wonder about why EVERY proposed source of power is opposed by the hard Greens?

    Yes, because when you look at what we use our present energy to do it becomes an argument of increased pollution vs. %some-trivial-waste% (mcblondalds-happymeal toys? 75 pairs of plastic flipflops per person?).

    If we used our present resources WISELY, ie no frivilous waste (goto The Mall) then we *might* need to begin to consider an increase in pollution.

    We are not really even close to considering it -- because N.America has a *INCREDIBLY* wastefull consumer society means that NO NEW POLLUTION should be tolerated until we get our proverbial "Act Together".

    None. Zilch. Nadda. Zip. If you *want* more energy for something -- take it from what is presently available. Pollution remans the same. You get what you want -- and we are all better off for having made WISE decisions instead of simple-minded-pleasure-demanding-kid-without-conse quences-in-a-candy-store-with-a-belly-ache type decisions.

    its all mostly conjecture - these slashdrones (nor I (or yourself)) have ANY idea what the reality is..

    here is a past article on /. talking 'bout Xbox economics (and the other consoles) that deflates (i believe) the "consoles are always sold at a loss" -- i would guess this is not true... but thats just a GUESS...
