Second, Sega can in principle use this work on NetBSD in official Dreamcast games, much the same way that Apple is using NetBSD as the core for OS X, since NetBSD is free of some of the licensing restrictions of Linux

Im assuming this will get mucho flames from the BSD 31337 but:

The above is the #1 reason I release my code GPL. The reason OSX is based on NetBSD only because it does not have a GNU license. ATTENTION BSD HACKERS if you want your code to swell corporate coffers continue to work on *BSD. If you are interested in freeing (libre) computer users from Corporate Computing Domination continue to hack *BSD. If you are interested in liberating people (ourselves) from corporate computing chains please PLEASE do not work for these slugs who will use your code to make profits for themselves. If you are interested in having someone else profit from your work: hack *BSD.
The BEST aspect of Linux is the viral(sp) nature of GNU. *BSD being an alternative -- but one that can be corporatly co-opted -- is obviously contrary to the major tennants of OpenSource ie the libre portion of free...

This is why I never deploy *BSD ever.

Do I think NetBSD on DC is cool? Yes. Do i 'like' that Sega has an interest in working with an 'open' developer group? Yes. Do I like the idea that *BSD is/has/will become a 'free' code base to subsidize future corporate software projects (why hire people to write our products when we can just steal *BSD code and clean it up & call it our own & sell it for $49.95 on Amazon..) OSX is the major example. The #1 reason that Apple is using *BSD in the backend is that they can get it for free (as in beer) - and *BSD hackers will keep doing bugfixes, implementing features and the like... all for free (gratis). While the their innovative work is kept locked up for themselves -- not exactly a fair exchange between honest parties is it...

Can some biology student please explain if this is true? I dont know if I agree - wouldnt the highest energy content in food be found in something other than animal flesh? That material may not be Sugar but could it be something like peanut butter (nuts of some kind) or something else?

I understood, one of the major arguments of vegetarians is reducing ones ecological footprint. Meaning that not eating animal flesh means that you require less area to grow enough food to sustain yourself. Ie. It takes 100 acres to grow 5 cows wich can feed 10 people for one year vs 100 acres to grow XXX bushels of corn with can feed 100 people for on year. This would seem to violate this idea by saying that you can achieve greater concentrations of 'energy' in animal flesh -- then the anology above would not be true.

Readmond, WA, 02.02.02;Microsoft CEO Bill Gates has announced to the World that his firm has won their suit heard by the World Trade Organization & World Intellectual Property Organization to trademark and copywrite the term ".NET". This recent move by Microsoft would see the Redmonton giant gain control of over 12312312 domain names presently on the internet.

"We are clearly the rightfull owners of the ".NET" trademark -- all current users of the ".NET" TLD are obviously infringing on our rightfull property." said Mr. Gates in a recent interview. "At Microsoft, our IP is our most valuable asset. This is the reason we have seen a shift from sales revenue to licenses occur so dramatically in the last few years. No longer will our company sell products, we now find our innovative ".NET" infrastructure to be much more suited to the 'service' type model." he continued.

Free Software advocates, the communist, anarchistsic, anti-American users of the GNU/Linux software were heard speaking various grumbles at one of their recent Cult-Gatherings; known as "LUGS". Some of the self proclaimed "Hackers" (Ed. A hacker is someone who uses his mastery of computer skills to devestate American infrastructure.) interviewed for comment.

"You cant trademark a TLD -- their are 123123123 sites displaying prior art. This is absurd." said one Hacker. "VV1N|>0WW$ suX0R$ d00d - |_1NuX i$ 31337" added another Hacker. (Ed. We are not sure what drugs these cultists take -- we only hope that man finds help.)

The legal world made comment at the decision. Law Professor from a local University added "This is not necessarily a precendent. It is the first of its kind in the Auto-Matic Tabulating (Computer Ed.) industry. We find it interesting that they have succesfully made a trademark of commonly used terms and general language. It is not surprising though; the recent victories by McDonalds to tradmark the word "Food" and "Meal" and Ford Motor Company to trademark the word "Car" and "Travel" show the direction of IP law. It is an exciting prospect for my profession - it will surely gaurantee great amounts of spending as industry leaders claim their rightfull IP. As none of these terms were previously Trademarked there is no reason they should not be, belonging to the 'Public Domain' is a death sentance because this 'Public' does not have any lawyers.. maybe they should hire some. Id be willing to represent their 'best interests' also for the proper fee."

In related news; Sun Microsystems sent shockwaves through the internet as they filed there own suit to claim ".COM" as their Intellectual Property. "We obviously own .COM -- after all we did put the 'dot' in the 'dot' COM you know - what the @#*&@*# do you think that meant biatch? You take the definition of monopoly way to strict and literal. Because MS can build products that use proprietary formats/data, they dont publish API's or complete docs, they can bundle products without losing money -- this defines them as monopoly. Because they can force vendors into these bundle/pay deals, they dont follow industry standards/protocols, they can dispatch all attempts at their markets (Netscape, Corel, Apple) this defines them as a monopoly. The fact that you can run other software if you choose dosnt make a market free of monopoly -- the fact that Microsoft can behave in this way and not instantly get told by the marketplace to pi$$ off proves they are a monopoly. If there was a viable competitive marketplace Microsoft would have died when running their business this way. You should really stop to understand what a monopoly is -- M$ dosnt have to be the only Software Company on the planet to be a monopoly...

In the entire history of man it was not until the last 150 years that this privately owned corporate monster was born. In the past these inventions occurred from the works of scholars and engineers - by people practicing their craft.
