There was a time when we functioned in a bicameral mind state ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Jaynes ) or subconscious state, as many animals today do. In such a state there are limits as to how much you can advance but you are far better in touch with nature, explaining how many animals respond to changing environment (i.e. crabs move inland and how far depending on major storm strength and where the storm make landfall and many other examples).

Man developed small societies while living in such an non-abstract mind state, as even apes and other animals today do, all for increased survival. But with man our subconscious or bicameral mind state could not keep up with the growing population and the story of the tower of babel .... Man created consciousness and abstract thinking and communication, eventually evolving in such developments as written language and the development and improvements of mathematics (abstraction) to the point of today we have abstraction machines we call computers. http://abstractionphysics.net/pmwiki/index.php

Are we getting better with abstraction use as a tool? Well considering one of the downsides of abstraction is that it open the door to deception and this along with the growing world protests of the people against nothing more than the fewer in positions of command at they cost of the people.... Via deception...

All in all its only natural in our evolution that we get better at understanding the limits and usefulness of abstraction as the tool it is. Such that we get beyond the false usefulness of deception. Especially when such deception is being used by the few to take from the many.

.. religion came about at the time of human transition from living in a subconscious state (as many animals do today) to the creation and use of higher level abstractions which needed a different mindset of consciousness. In simple terms religions are nothing more than different biased interpretations of what all we knew and still do on a subconscious level. Consciousness and abstraction, to separate them from subconscious requires a belief filter or philosophy as the conscious mind has its processing limits based on abstraction. We need abstraction to deal with growing complexity of society as population grew (tower of babel) but today the population if driving the next transition, where the choice of what we want to believe and the deception that abstraction use enabled are breaking down. World wide protest are the evidence of such breakdown as all have in common the people having grown tired of the few in positions of command messing things uo for the people, for only the benefits of the few.

Where we are going now is to re-integrate our subconscious access to all that is with our conscious abstract mind to see past the deception.... the bottomless pit of deception for which any troll can prove and where anyone in teh pit can only see a part of reality, in looking up out of the pit.

  16. Question: Mind state transition... on Ask Richard Dawkins About Evolution, Religion, and Science Education · · Score: 0

In human evolution Julian Jaynes - http://www.julianjaynes.org/bicameralmind.php recognized a transition that took place from functioning in a subconscious or bicameral mind state to that of a conscious state capable of introspection and solving increasing complexity of societies problems due population growth, in essence, the creation and use of higher level abstraction in thought and language. During this transition those who had transitioned to a conscious state would employ "oracles" to return to the subconscious state for information, such as coming drought or flood, etc.. The sort of information many animals today are in touch with. i.e. crabs know to move inland prior to a huge storm making landfall at their location. Today we still have some who do "readings" and some in our past who have become well known i.e. Edgar Cayce, Nostradamus, etc.. There are also techniques like PSYCH-K http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4cV9cVa5sc that enable one to establish a communication link between their conscious and subconscious. Clearly from these we can know that religion was born out of this subconscious/bi-cameral to conscious transition. The differences being nothing more than different translation or interpretations (tower of babel fall) of what we all know subconsciously but have created belief filters (religions) for our lessor capable conscious functioning ability. We also all know higher level abstractions can be misused, innocently or more often intentionally (deception) and today we have a world wide level of protest happening against those who have done so against the majorities best interest where often religion is being used as an excuse to activate conflict..

So the question: Richard, do you recognize our current state of transition (as indicated by the wide spread protests) to the next, so to say, level? Please elaborate if you will answer.

Have people seen the supposed passenger list of the plane that was supposed to have hit the pentagon (plenty high security military related) somehow let a few guys with box knives detour a plane for how long? and to do a difficult maneuver cork screw flight path to hit that specific department. What does that say about those working in military security?
