    Numbers are out there, feel free to look them up. Let's look at advertising. Between '94 and '04 the total spent was in the 40m range for anti-agw work. The pro-agw work had already topped 80m.

    Tell me that the number of people who benefit from fossil fuel production is greater than the number of people who would be screwed over by climate change.

    Sure, I only need to look out my door and see what the americas have become in the last 150 years, or take a trip to europe, or even China in the last 40 years, or Japan. Cheap energy is the cornerstone of removing human misery, the other parts are education, medicine, and cheap food. And you can't have any of those with expensive energy.

    Pretty ignorant aren't you? Never paid attention to all the environmental groups going around claiming that western crops are poison. Or forcing 3rd world countries, at the behest of "getting money" to go with green energy, or not getting any money at all.

    Don't worry if your belief and reality don't match up, after all drinking all the koolaid must be hard work.

    I remember quite a few pirated games that simply stripped out assets to save space, anything from videos to foreign languages, to also reducing texture sizes. It was funny to read and see the difference in some of the old nfo's, where a game would be say 1GB, and some group would release a rip where the game was squished down to 120MB.

    Find a better place to work. When I was an apprentice mechanic almost 20 years ago, the shop I was at had a beer fridge with beer in it! Shock! And the guys who worked there would actually drink a beer or two during work.

    If I'm European, you're American.

    Sure, North America.

    However, European countries have done a great job of harmonizing themselves into a single nation state called the EU, in turn "Europe" is proper. Canada, US, and Mexico maintain their own distinctness, there is no "north american union."

    Dunno about that, there is a fundamental difference between the two. Generally in the Americas, the line of reasoning is: Whatever is not forbidden is allowed. In Europe whatever is permitted is allowed. The problem right now in the americas though is crony capitalism and monopolies/duopolies controlling the market. In Europe it's the same deal, they're simply more sly about how they go about it.

    There is no excuse for the closed door policy. This is an agreement that could affect hundreds of millions of people, but they're not allowed to know what's going on?

    I've long come to the conclusion that any law/treaty/etc that's discussed in closed door locations should probably be ignored by the population at large. After all, it's not being discussed in the spirit of a free and open society, why should society pay heed to such a law.

    It's been 11 years since they did a burn in banning/beaumont(that's riverside and area). Just a FYI, and in some places the needles are 6" deep.

    That's nice. I'm still having a problem with the implied statement that a single beer is impairing someone. And you'd best let law makers in most other places know, because the laws do not apply equally to being on scrips or even OTCs and driving vs "drunk" under the law. I directly blame this on the screaming harpy brigade known as MADD.

    Gotcha. So, you head out for a meal with your S/O and you have a beer. And you're automatically over the limit, but you can be smacked out on various drugs, anti-depressants, or pain killers and it's a-okay.

    Considering the low level that's required to "blow over" for the last 10+ years? Pretty sure we've got a problem, considering two off the shelf beers will put you over the legal limit in most places, or a run-of-the-mill mixed drink.

    One of the largest thefts of gaming accounts occurred because of drive-by malware because the advertisers didn't vet well enough. It was one of the reasons why Blizzard switched to the launcher for World of Warcraft back in '06 or '07, and the launcher would look for the most common malware that would steal logins. And of course most of the infections came right from well known gaming networks.

    Preventing the natural burn cycle sets us up for larger fires. We need to be more strategic about our fire fighting in rural and wilderness settings.

    Great idea, back in the 80's when I used to visit Socal, they'd burn out the hills every summer. Worked like a charm to keep the fires down, then the environmentalists, idiots with the mansions in the hills, and nimby's started throwing a hissy fits on every pro-active burn program out there. Everything from "it's making the air bad," to "it's not natures way."

    Killing them is a nearsighted solution. If you kill some of them,there will be more resources for those that are left, which cause another increase in populqtion puttinyg us right back where we started. And the idea if letting a bunch of shotgun-totting hicks go hunting within blocks of: our parliament, the residence of the prime minister, and many foreign embassy's, seems like a bad idea.

    It's a perfectly fine solution, since the population has exploded since the massive restriction on hunting them came into place. In my home town we get so many of them now they've actually polluted the local "pond" actually a small dam area maybe 1-2km in size to the point where the geese have killed off all the fish twice including the carp.

    And if you think 24 sussex is near parliament you need to go look at a map. Besides where they like to hang out isn't anywhere near parliament, it's where people like to hang out and toss them free food.

    Sorry, the media is too busy trying to make sure that those stories remain buried. After all it can't embarrass Obama, or Holder, or shine any light on his administration. That would be racist, or show that they're political hacks who are actively supporting an administration which is corrupt, and they're playing political favorites. Never mind that the IRS targeting of conservative groups also falls into this, and was done at the behest of a high ranking democrat.

    AM radio? Seems that it covers just about everything you might want, and then there's always shortwave if you can't find it.

    In all fairness, why should you get 2TB of bandwidth for the same price as the other 90% who are using 500GB? That's a significant difference. You should pay more.

    Simple answer? Because I have an ISP that knows how to manage traffic responsibly. Sadly you guys in the US don't, see up here in Canadaland Teksavvy has this program called ZTC or Zap The Cap. What happens is, between 8pm to 12am you get a reduction in download speed and the rest of the time you can download as much as you want. But if you don't want to use it, you can always schedule your downloads for 2am-6am I think the time frame is, and there's no cap then during that period anyway.

    See this isn't rocket surgery. And really I *am* getting 2TB of bandwidth for that 90% who are using 500GB, I'm simply voluntarily restricting my usage during peak.

    There's many other games that are better than Star Control 2, but it was a hell of a game. Speaking of which, for those that never played it you can get it for free here. Since the source was placed into the public domain. In my book, Planescape: Torment ranks as number one, Starcon2 as number 2.
