It is. Just some months ago, flooding from Hurricane Sandy caused massive devastation at the same time as drought was (and still is) devastating parts of California. Apparently this Church of Warminetics knows what they're talking about; you should stop fighting and join them:)
It's called "suspension of disbelief". When things get ridiculously illogical even with the alternate physics in whatever universe the movie is in and _character_s start acting ridiculously out of _character_, it becomes less entertaining and more groaning in pain as brain cells commit suicide.
If you want a paper trail, you're going to have to go find a paper trail. In the days of Alta Vista and Infoseek you were lucky if you found something that actually matched your keywords, and Google doesn't index the Wayback Machine for obvious reasons.
When you want to buy something at Target, do you drive up and down every road looking for a store that might be Target, or do you go to the address where Target is?
When you want to get groceries, do you drive around randomly looking for signs that say "grocery store" or do you go straight to the street address of the local H-E-B, Kroger, Publix, or whatever?
The same applies to web sites. When you want to order a laptop, you check the sites of businesses you know that sell laptops (Dell, HP, Amazon, NewEgg, Fry's), or you go to a shopping comparison site (which, guess what, has a brand name as their domain!).
Search engines have absolutely not reduced the importance of domain names.
In the late 90's, domains were practically free. In fact, lots of places "sold" free domains (actual.com and.net, not just subdomains). He didn't do anything hazardous.
3) It costs $10 more to get Internet access without also getting cable.
You're confused. It actually costs $30-$50 less to get internet access without also getting cable, because cable + internet is upwards of $90 after tax, while internet is under $60, even after the stupid "for the first 12 months" bullshit.
Th*s *s ge**i*g ri*ic*ulou*. P***s* s*o* censoring random fucking letters of random fucking words. Your audience consists of people who are permitted on the internet, and therefore damn well better be fucking able to handle some fucking instances of fucking pro-fucking-fanity without fucking aster-fucking-isks in the fucking middle. Get my fucking point, fuckers?
The major distro I'm using, which is included in "all of them", has absolutely no requirement for me to use systemd, nor is it the default init system. So, why is it that you think "all of them" are switching? Sounds like more blind promotion of change for the sake of change.
HTTPS is only sufficient until ISPs install proxies and give all the technophobe morons who are proud to proclaim "I don't know about all them flashing lights and stuff!" a nice little "internet installer" CD that sets the proxy as a trusted root, or has the tech who comes out because the customer is too proud of their ignorance to connect a coax cable between two coax ports and an ethernet cable between two ethernet ports install it for them.
Some people don't give a shit about data usage, hence having automatic downloads on. Some people DO give a shit about having shit music forced into their library without their consent. I like all _my_ music, so my playlist is everything-on-random. It's MY playlist, not Apple's playlist, and they can keep their shit out of it.
Microsoft has had plenty of time to fix that, either via an utterly simple string replacement, or a minutely less-simple calculation (size / (1024^n / 1000^n) where n is the power of thousands in size). I wonder how much of a kickback Microsoft took from the lawyers in the frivolous lawsuits against Western Digital and others.

ISPs get plenty of money from spammers. Ever heard of Ecatel?
There are perfectly good shielded ethernet cables that only cost twice as much (e.g. $4 instead of $2).
Take your measly coax and get off my lawn. This here is real audio cable: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E...

Sheeple killed the "died-in-the-wool audiophile".
So you're saying it is impossible to have flooding near the coast and drought inland at the same time? The world is bigger than your back yard.

Clearly a legitimately ad-laden non-.gov NORAD site.

Right, my semi-closed system must be worse than your semi-closed system... FFS, any dev can upload their app to both, if they want both sets of users.
Do you get one whole tent if you put a thousand millitents together?

The problem with systemd and its supporters like you is that you think change and progress are the same thing. This change is regress.
Defense is not criminal. They have every right to not let parasites leech off of their work.
Defense is not malicious. They have every right to not let parasites leech off of their work.

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with it being intentional, unless you're claiming that parasites deserve to leech FTDI's work.

I still use my swbell.net address. Get off my lawn :)
