    The importance of ham radio becomes apparent during wartime and other emergency situations. Battery, antenna, and radio and you're "online". There are too many things (and people) that can happen to the average person's IP connectivity.

    The Japanese makes have their share of problems, and when the cars break, parts are ridiculously expensive compared to the domestics. If you don't like Fords (lately I don't), have a look at Buick. And the Japanese makes are notorious for telling the customer to f*ck off when the tranny blows up 1 month out of warranty.

    * The Linux kernel, started by an effite European, is vastly inferior to the quality server OSes cranked out by innovative Microsoft

    Bad example. As lousy as I think MS software is, their OS is more innovative than Linus' clone of good ole American UNIX.

    * There are no more American TV manufacturers any more, because although they were of tremendously high quality, they were done in by the shoddy workmanship and underhanded tricks of foreign manufacturers.

    Japanese tv makers dumped products in the U.S. at low prices and charged their home markets inflated prices. Their goal was to steal the American tv market.

    Ok, but what if your health insurance provider decides to check up on your eating habbits? Or maybe the local supermarkets will start snooping around to help direct their spam attacks. Or maybe your neighbor has some perverted interest in which OTC medications or birth control devices you buy. Maybe a potential employer will include an RFID scan of your house as part of their background check.

    The potential for abuse will depend on the creativity of the abuser. If they're gonna put these things on the stuff I buy, then I want the right to know they're there and to disable them.

    That point is moot now because win95 is near eol, but many companies used 95 instead of CE. It sounds like you're equating "embedded" with "tiny".

    It's not like every program uses every dll. Even if you have to replace some stuff for your particular app, you can still dramatically reduce the disk footprint of the OS.

    Tell them that you know how to do it and refuse to give them the details unless they can provide you with federal, state and local documents guaranteeing that you, your friends, and your family will not be prosecuted now or in the future for any illegal activity relating to this exploit, exploits of other academic software, or exploits of any software relating to anyone who ever atended college or anyone who knows someone who attended college. Be sure to specify that Arab Americans cannot be excluded from these guarantees.

    Also demand that the school indemnify you against any civil actions. While you're at it, you might as well require a statement that no military action will be taken.

    Finally, offer them your consulting services at $500/hr, minimum 10 hours.

    Can a person claim exclusive copy rights on their own DNA? Google turns up some firms offering such protection to celebrities. Are they just a scam? Could gene sequencers be classified as circumvention devices under DMCA?

    If the laws don't matter to this guy, then it's just his personal sense of morality as to what's right and what's wrong. He thinks it's ok to "rob them blind" because his cause is just. So what's to keep him or someone else from thinking it's ok to kill someone for a just cause, *your* sense of morality?

    If you want to attack someone for their draconian measures I'm the wrong guy.

    If you're so willing to do the wrong thing for the right reason, why don't you just go kill these guys? And why shouldn't they just kill you? Laws don't matter, right?

    What we really need is to put congress out of business. Peoples' right to look, listen, learn and express themselves supercedes the pseudo-right of owning an idea. Get rid of the insane copy right laws and restore the natural evolution of art and science. We shouldn't try to beat them at their own game, we should just pick a new ref.

    The alert color is determined by Dubya's mood ring. They tried to couple it to his brainwaves, but they couldn't find any equipment sensitive enough to measure them reliably. Interestingly though, whenever he hears the word "oil" the instruments light up like a pinball machine.

    MS just has to have control of EVERYTHING
    Because that's how they get the money.

    Why wouldn't MS support Linux? It's a matter of control.
    Flashback to 1994 and you could say the same thing about supporting the Internet. But once they realized that they couldn't stop it, they had to get in the game, cheat like bastards, and attempt to "move it to their own yard".

    But they understand the customers' wallet. MS is doing this to find subtle ways of breaking LinWin compatibility wherever they can. Then they'll offer expensive connector software to restore the broken functionality. They'll spin it like they're playing nice with the other kids, but all the while, they'll just be taking everyone for a ride.

    No one thinks that $200 is a good deal on an OS that they don't need or want. The EULA says the money is refundable, but the vendors who wrote and repackaged it refuse to honor it, except under the order of a court.

    What other people think about the deal is irrelevant.
