    The LoD in some bits of the US is great, little white spots of cars, and red rectangles of rooftops.

    So in I zoom on London, but no such luck.

    [1] I'm sure Kensington do sell good mice, but my hand still hurts from using that pile of shit, I just don't get why anyone would make a mouse in such a stupid shape? Or more to the point, why the company I worked for kept on buying them!?

    I've tried two desktop aerials + (crappy) roof top, and two boosters, and all the combinations there-in.
    I can get Five on normal and digital. (it is actually the best channel on digital, but is still better on normal!)

    Yeah, really not ready.
    I've got a freeview box, but I just can not get the signal to watch it, my choice is, analog "wavey but watchable" all the time, or digital great quality, until a bus goes by, then "bad MPEG download fun" until the next keyframe.

    I'm not looking forward to the turn off.

    You could build a very small linux/X install (from memory the core OS + X is way under 50 Meg, and its boot time would be almost instant on modern hardware. Then have a full screen PearPC as your next line in your X config file.

    However, in order to get reasonable spead, expect to pay a small fortune for a machine, thus negating the point of using it.

    I was talking to a guy from Sony a little while a go at an IGDA event. As I understand it, not even PSP developers are getting hold on UMD writers, instead each game gets shipped on to Sony. Nice way to keep the royalitys in check I guess.

    User content goes on to memory sticks, limiting a film to 1gig.

    Glancing over FICS, it *seams* to send an ASCII board each turn (designed to be able to play over telnet). You might be able to change that thou.

    Thats nice, tis 0.73p a K on PAYG Vodafone UK.

    I think they also round up to the nearest K. Assuming the game is under a K, and in a single GPRS session, you are looking at 0.73p.

    I don't think it would not hard to port a FICS client to J2ME (its one of the little projects I have on the "prob. never get round to doing"-ToDo list). But at £x per kb, it will not be a cheep game.

    From my xp, I'd go with Visual Basic & some awk mixed in for good messure.

    You're right about the Mac OS X part, but as far as I know, Java no longer comes with Windows.

    Not Microsoft Windows, Dell Computers. Sun has made a number of deals to get Java installed by default.

    Java Hate comes three main forms:
    Free! It ain't. Some people argue it is "less free" than .net, others say it is more so (anyone can join the JCP for free (beer), is joining the ECMA as easy?) Nor is it, or Sun as OSS friendly as "they should be". With the source code for Java is aviable to download, it does not have a pro-distribution lience.

    Slow! Most modern benchmarks (1.4) show Java to be comparitive to native and .NET in most cases (trig being the big downfall at the moment). However many people used it in its 1.0/1.1 days, when it was slow, and refuse to update.
    Its not the fastest at starting.

    Swing Some people love it, other loth it. Guess which group are more vocial ;)

    C4 does do a lot of good shows.
    C5 does buy some good/fun US shows (CSI, Law & Order, Angel, Charmed)
    I'd go with
