The ear does not hear though (and they have grown ears on the backs of mice, although I do not have a link for this, just search Google [google.com]. It is actually what is inside the head that does the hearing.
I remember seeing a Meridian phone system (the hub that all the phone lines go into) and it was running OS/2! I was really surprised and my first thought was, "That's fuckin' cool!"
You just plugged a keyboard and mouse into the inside of it, and if you had the right boot disk, you could load up the software and change stuff. OS/2 was the heart of the phone system.
I just thought it was really cool that you could change mailboxes and stuff without using a phone, but a real keyboard.
From my limited experience with Linux distributions (even though I now run Linux solely for the last 8 months except for school, which I need VB for) going from Mandrake 8.0 to 8.1 increased install time from 10 minutes to around 25 minutes for the same packages. I also notice it's a little bit slower in KDE than previous.
I've heard from the Mandrake support lists that 8.1 is really buggy and has been bothering a lot of people. I'm hoping they got those bugs worked out and stable before releasing it. I'm currently using 8.0 and love it, but am weary of upgrading to 8.1 from all the problems that I've heard about. More than likely I'll just upgrade all the stuff manually. It's nice to see KDE 2.2.1 in there though. How much more memory does it use now though:)
Your part of the country must not have dial-up users? I understand where you are coming from, but we are not at a point yet where every person who has internet access can install from the internet as their connections are much too slow. (Including mine! It took me an hour to do an update yesterday)
Ummmm... the US landed on the moon several times. And what did it do for the US? They are now the richest nation and have the best space program (arguably) in the world? I'm Canadian, and love Canada, but landing on the moon showed what the US was capable of.
BTW: This is not intended as flame bait, but I have my fire proof suit on.
Ever since Canada made the move of stopping production and research on the Avro Arrow, we have fallen so far behind the space program that countries with smaller available budgets and starving people are bypassing us in space research, which is supposed to be the "final" frontier. Canada could atleast put forth and try launching atleast one space probe a year and contributing more to the greater good of humans and helping out with space research.
This is the kind of thing that happens when investors don't do their research and just jump on any band wagon they can get a hold of. When the market was on it's way up, people saw a bunch of companies making millions or billions every year, and greed took over. If people are losing money, it's because investors are jumping into an idea that they have only just been told about by the people who are asking for the money. Maybe every investor should hire a techy:)
Who wants another email account anywase? I've got my ISP account, work account, hotmail (spam) account, and website address. What do I need with another email account from my former school? Seems as if it's another means to recieve spam:)
I suppose it makes it easier for them to contact you ever 10 years though, so make sure you run that account to be checked every minute (like I do at work...)
What is "Lisp" based off of? Is it a C++ style code or something else, and why have I not heard of it before? What are some other "famous" applications that are using Lisp?

Wow, this totally amazes me! Who'd have thought that the RIAA would try to supress information. Aren't they all for open source?
I'm just waiting for the day for the RIAA to dig themselves a grave. I being a musician, this concerns me. I hope to be able to distribute my music without having to ask the RIAA (or anybody) permission to let anyone else hear it.
I guess I just don't understand why the RIAA has any sort of grounds to suppress this.
Atleast you have ONE provider. My area is still relying on 56k modems, and there is no one who is providing high speed. About 20 minutes away there is a city of about 35,000 people, and they only have cable access through Cogeco. No DSL and more than likely slow cable. Go the other way, and another 20 minutes away.. they have DSL, town of about 3,000 people. There are people out there who WANT it.. they just need to put it in place.

What the hell :)
Look me go! DOWN, DOWN I GO!

How many people out there are REALLY using Linux & Qwest? :)
Is this such a big deal, as most people are probably using Windows anywase (and using Qwest)? Or am I out of the loop?

I know this won't be moded up, but damnit, I liked Voyager! It was the only Star Trek that I enjoyed as much a TNG. I thought DS9 was stupid.
Maybe they should make it more like Army Men. There is a ton of room to move around in those games. And I agree, it would be more fun that way.

As if Windows users are any better?
If you are worried about glass flowing over time, then check out this article. Has some good points.

Maybe if you don't have the ability to move your eyes...
