    If gmail is rejecting the message because the callback failed so they think it's spam, why don't they at least put it in the spam folder?

    Perhaps the difference is academic, but I consider that "few hundred thousand" to be "venture capital". Definitely a small amount, compared to what most businesses start with, though.

    Well, if you currently have a generator that can only create $1000 worth of energy per year, it can take a while to get enough money to build a generator that can produce a decent amount of energy; salaries and maintenance will likely suck up all the profits; a bit of venture capital will be needed to get it going.

    But I agree that selling energy is the correct model for somebody who has discovered a "free energy" source. ("Teach a man to fish, you give up your monopoly on fisheries.")

    If the law was repealed by Congress, it would not make anybody convicted "wrongly imprisoned". (If a speed limit is increased, would the government have to refund any speeding tickets on that road?)

    Even if the law was removed through judicial review, ISTR that it does not affect past convictions.

    IIRC, "peer to peer" has a definite meaning: the protocol is the same for both sides.

    IIRC, the sponsor for the Ellery Queen TV series (mystery, 1970s) was a cigar company; they were explicitly forbidden from using the "lipstick stained cigarette" clue, or even showing any kind of tobacco product except a wrapped (sponsor's brand) cigar.

    By definition, it's impossible for more than half to be above [i]median[/i]. It's quite easy for more than half to be above average. For example, suppose there's one sample of 1, and 49 samples of 2. Average is 99/50 == 1.98; 49/50 == 98% are above average.

    The problem is the square/cube ratio. Double all linear dimensions, and volumes / weights go up by a factor of eight; areas only go up by a factor of four. So exactly doubling a creature would double the amount of weight per unit area, and the joints wouldn't be strong enough.

    I think GMail checks the contents of a .zip for executables.

    At least, I had trouble mailing inform source code (.inf) because gmail thought it was a Windows registry file (also .inf); trying to hide the file in a .tar.gz or .zip didn't work; I ended up having to compress it then rename the executable. (Though compressing it twice, and passwording the latter might also have worked.)

    IIRC, "algebraic" functions are roughly those which can be obtained in a finite number of steps from:
    - any constant
    - any argument to the function
    - the sum, difference, product, quotient of two algebraic functions
    - any rational power of an algebraic function

    "transcendental" functions are those which are not "algebraic". (Try calculating an exact value for sin x given only x.)

    is a list of IP addresses which mail servers ignore completely (blackhole), and is updated continuously as new complaints arrive (realtime)

    MAPS == Mail Abuse Prevention Service
    is one such RBL
