"all music will have the same kind of watermarks for which all players will be screening. These will be used in a general infrastructure by which the marks will instruct players/recorders to not accept marked music under certain conditions, for instance if it is or has been compressed."
so, we have open source players, everybody grab their sources and modify it to ignore watermarking. and there probably are zillions of small record labels who don't want any digital watermarking on their music - and there is still huge amounts of small labels releasing 100% vinyl - which can be easily recorded and distributed digitally, without any fear of sdmi watermark. this is doomed idea. although industry people are so stupid that they will probably try it. remember what happened to this one big record label when they tried to release copyprotected cd's earlier this year? the cd didn't work on most of the cd players and they had to take all cd's back and replace them with standard ones.
how is this so called copy protecting supposed to work? i mean, i can just play the song at the studio through analog stuff (and since 80 % of the modern records are overcompressed and sound bad, i would turn some knobs too) and record it and distribute that copy if i wanted. i mean, if it can be played, it can be recorded - and if the watermarking is done so that human can't hear it, then you can't hear it in the copy either. damn stupid people.
hmm. win98 needs to be reinstalled about once a month because it just refuses to start up.
and about this ad; i think it shows a bit bad taste from microsoft and it proves that in the long run they have started to think linux is a threat - but i think not very soon, and the dreaded truth is that linux will never conquer the desktop from windows. but who knows; i might be wrong. we'll see.
i've seen this one floppy demo disk running few times and it's really amazing in todays world of operating systems taking up to about gigabyte of hd space on default installation, like win2k. and even better, most modern operating systems need all the time more and more memory and cpu power - i think it would be logical to study how to make these giants use hardware more optimized, rather than to add more features.
hmm. i kinda wonder do they get to keep their domain for free. mostly, i think, this is called cheating. so i think nsi will claim " we just forgot fix a bug in some old update script " or something like that
so the network solutions whois claims that it expired 21.oct.1996 but last update was 10.nov.1999! whois query provided by whois.userland.com
photopaint for linux just sucked. it managed to crash my system few times, occasionally crashed only my X, and took amazing amount of harddrive space. it just sucks. btw, i suspect it was just a wine port, since there was huge amount of winelib rpm's that had to be installed. if they would've thinked twice what they were going to do, they would have done it properly. somebody might even use it if it worked.
"Oh please! You can't be serious. Talking about FUD. You should spend some time with real users, the type that does not even know how to handle a mouse."
Yes, the more there are users, the more ignorant users there are. imho, if one has never used computer, it makes no different which OS this person learns. they are all equally hard.
"Or do you really think joe average will be compiling his kernel soon?"
it's not very complicated. of course, it is not necessary for long time after first time introduced to new system - it requires quite a lot of information and understanding how the computer works.
but my main point here is that as windows is more used platform, it is more easy to adapt than *nix. almost where ever you go, there's windows. if this was case with unix, you would be learning that rather than windows.
i doubt they would be free apart from ie and wmp. i would rather use ms word than that crappy star office but if it's not free, it's not an option. sad, but true. probably some people would buy ms office for linux.
but why would ms allow porting? then people would stop using windows and get free linuxes and just buy the office, to get things cheap (and stable). it would be the beginning of the end of windows. and they know it.
what? this sounds like a microsoft product? sounds too bad for me. but anyway, i think the whole idea to bring linux for the masses is doomed. we only get super big apps that dumps core like ms products... like staroffice. but wait. these tools are optional! yes! let's throw a party for that! party on dudes!
imho opengl performs better than direct 3d. unreal sucks with direct3d, max resolution being 1024x768 32bit and not being very playable - on the contrary, with opengl i can run it 1600x1200 32 bit, without any performance loss. i have 733 MHz pIII (256 megabytes ram) and nvidia's GeForce 256 with 32 megabytes sdram). most other games also perform superior on opengl when compared to direct3d and opengl looks by far better also.
i think it's the 'b' option. but i think that option 'a' quite true also, for mr.gates. or maybe he's just like that because it's his way of marketing the company. who knows.
i don't use other filedamagers than terminal. do i have to die now?
but there is a need for a graphical filemanager as many people from like windows platform converts to unix/linux. i don't think there's nobody to blame if ppl want to copy windows explorer as filemanager. you don't have to use it. as most of us really know, many of these applications aren't required to run linux/unix efficiently. you can do a lot of work with just xterm and emacs (or vi or pico) or if not using x, the plain console too.
most ppl will be clicking on these files because they don't see the.exe extension ('cause stupid windoze doesn't show them by default, which is kinda annoying)
this is really bad. this kind of action only supports piracy - since the one partition thingy is the major partitioning scheme nowadays, most people can't backup their data anywhere else, so they probably seek a pirated copy of the os (most cases some ms windows) and do a reinstall rather than clear up the whole disk. so software company like ms is not in position about complaining of pirated copies their os.(or actually are, but they should not complain about end users but OEM-sellers)
and who needs this VA monopoly afterall ? - we already have m$
maybe they wanted./ because of it's marketing power? how many people visit./ daily ? they would see VA ad's everywhere. now that's a marketing trick and nothing else.
Gnome is not a windowmanager. Enlightenment is the GNOME project wm. so that's the default wm in RH installations. If you're looking for a good wm, try WindowMaker, it'll make your life easy. it's simple, fully configurable, menu-driven, small and stable.
IMHO this should not be possible in any situation. think about situation that your daily procedures would get patented: eating, driving a car, buying food.. life would be nice, wouldn't it?
i remember reading this long time ago when i was just a kid, maybe around 10 years old - i was freakin out every week in library to borrow these cool sci-fi books and this eventually got into my bag. after reading the book i probably didn't read a book for month or so - cause i got a bit paranoid of the story.. anyhow got over it, read a lot more, and a bit more good books but i probably remember this book as long as i live.

then you can be happy with your choice of operating system, da?
if somebody has problem with operating system distribution x, why not then using completely another os y or os distro zyx??
i vote for freebsd. hurray hurray!

so, everybody needs a working dos boot disk to do fast recovery with GHOST. which will probably needed to be done every two months or so.

they can't smell it.
