uh. this is true, i've seen myself having multiple new e-mail addresses - of course they were only relayed through these odd servers but still... i'd like to nuke all spammers, as everybody else, but there's very little we can do right now. anyway, i didn't read the Sugarplum website but i'm heading there next..
well well. i am no GUI designer or specialist. i personally don't prefer kde or gnome/enlightenment - kde looks by far too toy-like for my taste and enlightenment.. well, i just don't like it. although, i think win2k desktop isn't bad with some modifications, it still doesn't cut for me. but i think it still feels by far more professional than kde or gnome/enlightenment. (note: i have not tested kde2, maybe i have to someday, but i don't like the way kde wastes my desktop with some useless panels and menu systems - and i definately don't like "icons" on my desktop. they create clutter).
then again, i prefer on my desktop two things. 1) no clutter. 2) it has to simple and easy to use. now, there's one windowmanager for *nixes that does this for me: the olvwm. it might be old, but for me, it's the best. (and easy to configure, and small - uses very little system resources.. etc).
my question is, how many people actually know of whois? i bet, that not many - sure all of us geeks know it but who else? typical internet-home users have no idea of it.
imho it should be freely available as it has been (if you know where to look for, nowadays)
hmm, they are AOL. do you expect them to do good business? off from the point, i haven't yet downloaded it - or actually i tried the online-installer but it didn't work. it crashed in 2/9 download point. i think i'll wait until next release(so they get to wash out few more bugs) before upgrading my netscape 4.7x. (just a side note: other browsers include: mozilla (build id: 2000110308), lynx and amaya 4)
standard distribution is binaries(at least last time i downloaded them), you just have to run the install shell script. and you don't have to download all the servers - just the one you need.
hmm i always wonder why there is need for distrospecific packages on this. just get the original install files from their website (www.xfree.org) and you're set. the installation is really easy, you just need to answer few questions, like do you want to backup some old files and so on.
when i need a good laugh, or just waste time, i start searching for any microsoft eula's. they are just too fun to read to (and waste of time to search)
..of course it's a matter of opinion but at least i like it - but maybe this will bring up same kind of movement as "unix-haters handbook";) (well hopefully noot!)
it's nice that these kind of distros exist; but until all linux distros are by far more secure by default (like not havin millions of daemons running per default) everybody just have to learn securing their box the hard way - there is no quick way for anything. but hopefully this bastille linux will show the way.
well, it's not nice to move around all the time, isnt'it. but hopefully these guys get lucky with the new place, and get those license - things the way the wanted.
seems like python is finally getting the publicity it deservers.
actually, i don't care was it linux, *bsd, solaris, or some other unix. main point is that it was most probably some unix-variant, and that's cool. most of the tv-shows usually have mac (as mentioned above) or windows (quite rarely) and last and the most used is the operating system that doesn't exist, although i think most of the time it's just some fullscreen application over some other os.
...has done so many stupid decisions like this one guy who made wooden boats, like his father, and his father etc; had to stop making these wooden boats since the council decided that this type of boat sinks - and therefor it is not safe; without even seeing or testing the boat. just because they could. council is a joke, bunch of people doing decisions on things they don't have a clue.
well, my local isp that provides me adsl said me the same that i'd be quite safe from hackers & etc if i'd used "grey" ip and dhcp. but that didn't suite my needs, so here i am. gladly i have ipchains running and all unnecessary services disabled... at least some security.
point is, after analog recording on say, reel2reel you get sound that is completely different - if there ever was some weird digital watermark, it's gone after that. there's so much little hiss, noise, and brumm on analog stuff (which you will not be able to notice from the recording) that it will hide all those fancy watermarking efforts. of course, who wants to do this? it requires a lot of work - and a studio. i was just speculating on the idea if there is actually any logic on this thing - and how to get around it.
try variations of that name at various domains

whoah! quite hardcore stuff this is. well, there's so many unknown species on earth that i don't think so

nope. i've tried all versions since m12, download daily builds every now and then but it still is not as stable as netscape 4.7x.
i choose netscape 4.7x just because mozilla is too unstable. oh, btw, i'm linux user. so there's really no alternative. but wait! there's lynx..!!!
wish i could do like pitr in userfriendly
hey, does this mean it's available for linux too? and what about freebsd?

you can find information on patent issues in Finland in here, all in english and so. don't know how relevant this is but certainly interesting
one loss? oh c'mon. what does that matter? nothing. n-o-t-h-i-n-g. there's always somebody who is better.
but the journalists name seems to be "foley" so the source can't be reliable ;)
i kinda knew before reading it was satire. even quite crappy one. uh. segfault has usually by far better satires, in case you didn't know.

just annoy everybody i claim it's freebsd!

now could we collect enough money from slashdot collective, buy the thing and then crash it? da?
really high graphics mode with the tiny font and then exit.
so what's the use? look at it with magnifying glass or what?
