Endgame For SCO

SCO probably *does* hold at least a couple of software patents that would benefit the OSS community. However, don't expect them to be handed over before the locks go on the door.
The bottom line is, if this company is going into receivership then the creditors get to divvy up any remaining assets -- and a software patent *is* an asset (even the lame ones like "One Click Shopping").
I've been waiting a _long_ time to see SCO go under. I knew it was only a matter of time before those arrogant assholes finally had to eat their words. Sure, they tried to embrace the open source community near the end, but their wide open mouths damaged their credibility with their FUD and insulting comments about free *nix.
I promised a coworker long ago that I would take the news with a celebration, and tomorrow night's Friday! It's party time!;-)
Mark this flamebait if you must, but saying it loud and clear is worth the karma hit.
Would somebody be so kind as to explain the moderation behind this? (There's nothing listed but I get a score of 0?) It wasn't intended as flamebait, wasn't a troll, wasn't redundant (at least, at the time of the posting), wasn't off-topic. It probably didn't deserve an increase in score but why wasn't it left at 1?
Somebody has abused their moderation power.

When will people realize that anti-censoring measures do *NOT* work? If this thing proliferates to the point where online pr0n retailers are feeling it financially, you'll start seeing them offer encrypted pr0n images (the GIMP offers such a filter).
You'll then download this seeming random gibberish image and decrypt into an image of the luscious Ms. Portman in all her petrified glory!;-)
Exactly. When one lives in the seedier parts of town, one finds the soothing hum of several computers a sleeping aid as it drowns out the yells of drunks and the "POP" of drive-by shootings.:-)

Ever hear of Imode? It's likely to blow the doors off the WAP standard. Practically exponential growth here in Japan.
The parent comment should be moderated up. VERY insightful; I had been wondering what might be a good way of tracking this sort of thing.
(I'm a bit embarrassed I hadn't thought of such a simple yet elegant way of using/etc/aliases to track which companies have sold my personal information.)
I'm 33 and I think I have more than a few years ahead of me. Perhaps by virtue of having gone back to school a bit er..."later than usual" I have no qualms about applying for jobs that list a maximum age of 29 (yes, age discrimination is alive and well in Japan, folks).
I think the trick may be just to keep current with new technologies (see? reading slashdot and arstechnica doesn't *have* to be a complete waste of time;-) ) and more importantly, to enjoy what you are doing. If you love your job you're not likely to burn out doing it.
That being said, I think I'd like to put some cash aside over the next few years and if/when I eventually reach the burn-out or non-hirable level, open up a restaurant in Tokyo and enjoy watching people lining up for an hour and a half to dine there.:-)
One thing the LinuxPower article talks about is enhanced language support, including Japanese.
I'm currently running Red Hat 6.2/J, which has an integrated Japanese environment and the included GNOME works well. However, my Japanese support was practically destroyed when I downloaded a previous version of HelixCode GNOME. I did submit a bug report at that time.
I've been running this new 1.2 version for a couple of days now, and I've tried to set my language environment back to Japanese (also tried Japanese.euc), but the menus only appear as gibberish instead of in Kanji.
Therefore I'll probably wait until Red Hat 7.0/J is released (with XFree 4.0, GNOME 1.2, Linux 2.4.0, Wine 1.0, etc.:-D~~~) before worrying too much about getting Japanese working. For now, I have my kterm, my yudit, and at least Nutscrape can view the pages right.
If anyone has any insight as to how to enable this language support, I'd be grateful.
I realize the GNOME vs. KDE debate is practically a religious one, but speaking as someone who has tried both, I do know that the decision as to which is best is a difficult one.
However, if you haven't downloaded the entire HelixCode distribution of GNOME and given it a try, I can recommend without hesitation that you should do so. GNOME development seems to be progressing *fast* and there is lots to love about GNOME 1.2.
(By the way, when KDE 2.0 final comes out, I'll be trying that out too.)
Hmmm...that must have taken you at least 2 or 3 minutes to type up. That time could have been better spent doing things like rolling on the carpet, or dousing yourself with water, or...

Bah, a legal "solution" to a technical problem. What is ROBOTS.TXT for?!
(Now, if the search engine provider doesn't respect the ROBOTS.TXT exclusions, I say go after them with legal means.)
Now's your chance to vote in the kernel 2.4.0 release date poll at http://LinuxNinja.com/!

Warning! Attempting to register "Oh.God" or the equally entertaining "Oh.God2" may lead to an actionable lawsuit by our friends at the MPAA.

Well, as the word GNU refers also to an animal, not just to a free software organization, that wouldn't be much of a stretch.
Just saw one of the other replies. Great, now I'm gonna get a Redundant (and another one for this follow-up). :^)
Well, at least I've never been accused of being a karma whore. Ki ni suru chunen!

I would imagine most clients (except lynx ;-) ) are PNG-capable now. We only have to worry about lazy folks who won't upgrade, or embedded devices.
:-(
But when can we expect PNG to offer transparencies and animations?
