I remember one of the big things they claimed the first time around was that the network config would easily let you share your internet connection through the Lycoris box. But it turned out not to be the case, you had to go manually edit some files. (fortunately they had a pointer to a decent howto, but not the same as click-and-share).
So, does it work "correctly" now?
And my Karma Whoring for the day: it's probably pronounced "Licorice". Some people like Licorice, other's don't.
This is more a slam on Charter than anything else. I'm amazed they managed to figure out the whole PVR thing, considering that you either need two remotes to record something, or a cable mouse on your VCR. On the plus side, it is kinda an improvement, since their current "digital cable" box has numerous bugs and I can make it crash once a day, doing nothing too involved. Laaaaaaaaaaaaa......
Everytime someone sues over deep linking, no-one link to these sites anymore. No links. Whatsoever. Have them removed from Yahoo, Google, everywhere. Remove entries from your own DNS servers. When they go from 10000 hits/day to 2, they'll change their tune. A harsh punishment, but amazingly appropriate.
1) This reminds me of the whole bit the Frantics did, where the Roman soldier is complaining about the move to decimal, Since Vee Eye Eye - Eye Eye Eye = Eye Vee, this new decimal system is too complicated.
2) I'm seeing a pattern here. First the guy who can't figure out rounding (.845), and now someone who doesn't know how many hours are in the day. I think there's a joke here about us going from extremely focused to just plain stupid, but I'm not sure what it is.
Check out NESFA press, btw: they've just printed a second volume of Russell - the first was a ton of short stories, this one is 3 novels, + a couple short stories.
Love your sig. Love the story. I should probably change my sig to MYOB.
Interesting headlines on MSNBC...

Is Linux Dead?

Actually, the article, if fully read, is very fair. If you skim through it, it looks unfair. And the title "Whatever Happened to Linux" is a bit misleading as well...
MSNBC's had that happen before , especially during the antitrust trial. The headlines would be something like "Microsoft found not guilty", while the actual article itself would say "Microsoft found guilty".
There was another one called Gatekeeper that was a bit more advanced. It had a set of actions, and you'd tell it what could or could not be done, and from which programs. An impressive piece of software.
Here's a thought: most of the people using the service do so from 6-10pm. Why not make some sort of access available only during the middle of the night, when no-one else uses it? I think it would be a win-win proposition if I tell my computer "download all this, be done by 6am" and walk off. The heavy use doesn't affect any of their normal customers, the bandwidth guys get their bandwidth, happy happy joy joy. Granted, I'd have to find some way to automate what I want to grab, but I could cope.
I'll probably get modded down for this again, but why not just use Usenet?
Set up an alt.binaries.geektoys and post all the Videogame Demos, Distros, Open Source Software, Movie Trailers and the like that we're all interested in. You can use RARs, PARs, SFVs, etc to make sure the file is downloaded properly. Then the only issue is making sure the checksum matches up with what you got off the original web site.
ISPs already carry Usenet, so the infrastructure is set up, and this is definitely a useful, non-infringing use of Usenet.
"What was I downloading? Why, the latest version of Mandrake!" Sounds good to me...
I've always wondered that myself. Since the games are essentially non-pirate-able (at least by the general public), and the cost of piracy is included in the cost of the game, why can't I find any 20-30$ games for a console?
Agreed on this. Someone mentioned that if you know enough to need it, you already have it. Not true, there are still people who want the tools and don't know of Cygwin's existence. Heck, a couple of years ago, I asked on one of the NewsGroups, and the best suggestion I got was for the 300$ suite.
Needless to say, I like Cygwin a whole lot better. Especially with X and WindowMaker.:)
Here's a better idea - howzabout a NASA-sponsored lottery... with the prize being a trip to space? Tickets go for $10. I think that would be a interesting (note that I didn't say fair) way to get money for NASA by people interested in NASA.

For what it's worth, I've seen this on the alt.binaries.multimedia NG. If you can't get to a screening, this might be an alternative.
How many projects have gone dark, never to be seen again? Heck, I was looking at this Gnome newsreader that looked cool, but no-one had a link to the code. If the thing's fallen out of development, what happens when it expires?
The Newton community has had this happen several times; the developer is gone, since the platform's been dead for a few years, so how do re-register the software?
From the article: [AMD Spokesperson:] "We've always very firmly said that the numbers compare with the previous generation of Athlon, for consistency," the spokesman said. "We've worked hard at explaining it and making it clear."
AMD says officially that its model numbers reflect differences in performance between its current Athlon XP processors, based on the "Palomino" core, and the earlier Athlon chips.[...]Therefore, an Athlon XP 2100+ running at 1.73GHz, would achieve performance equivalent to a 2.1GHz version of an older Athlon.
Um, AMD is full of it. This is the first time I've ever heard that it compares with previous Athlons. And does that mean my Athlon 1.4 (non-Xp, thank you very much) is actually slower than a P4 at the same clockspeed? Don't think so.

Mind posting the address? I'm interested, but can't figure out how to get there. Thanks.

actually, I'm curious. What is the practical upshot, since it's different from Beowulf?
